What I'm Watching: Verbal Kent - "Raponomics" (Prod. by Khrysis)
Perseverance was his virtue according this backstory, wow. Check out the latest from Verbal Kent and make sure you check out the entire album as well.
In 2003, while walking down an empty alley near Clark and Pratt in Chicago, Verbal Kent had his throat slashed with a knife by an acquaintance. Kent managed to make it to Saint Francis Hospital in Evanston as blood poured from his neck. He received nearly 100 stitches, and took two months to recuperate. The impact was unimaginable, an incident like this shades everything going forward for some time. It's been a decade now since that incident changed Verbal Kent's life forever, and now The Windy City is back in the news with unprecedented gang violence these past few years - something Verbal decided to address in his own way. Far from a nihilist, Verbal finds meaning in the struggles he and his city live through.
This is The Sound of The Weapon an unabashed look at living through anything and loving everything.
The cause of it is truth.

Download: Teck-Zilla - "Son of Sade: An Ode"
A nice find in the inbox right here. Short and sweet, oh and free!
An 8 track instrumental EP that pays homage to the legendary UK singer. A solid blend of her soulful, uplifting vocals, Jazzy backdrops, Afro rhythms plus that good ol' boom bap.

Download: Full Blast Movement - "High Volume"
FULL BLAST!!!!!! The movement is here and they dropped a 16 track project on you like it ain't nothing. The album showcases various different styles from the Full Blast affiliates plus verses from Vast Aire, Bizarre of D12, Billy Danze of M.O.P., Cappadonna of Wu-Tang, and a few other talented CT natives so there's practically something here for everyone. Anytime these cats get together in a project like this, it feels like it's their All-Star Game. I sense a lot of friendly competition here as they bring their A game to the studio on this one. Don't believe me? Check for yourself. Peep it and make sure you cop the download. They also have CDs on deck. Just hit them up online.

Download: CenTinels - "In No Uncertain Terms"
Check out the latest from a couple of emcees that joined forces to form their duo called CenTinels in this refreshingly semi-throwback sounding album full of dope Hip-Hop elements. With a couple of features in 5:am, Seme Rock with the beatboxing, and DJ Mo Niklz on the cuts, Expertiz and Cre808 deliver such a fun to love and easy to put on repeat type of project that you have no choice but to support. The album is a "name your price" but I urge you to throw a couple of duckets their way for helping bring you some of that Hip-Hop you may have been missing. Check it out.

Blacastan and Stu Bangas are dropping a new album a day before my birthday titled "Watson & Holmes". Sounds like a dope gift to me. Here, they team up with another Demigodz associate in Apathy on a track that promises what sounds like will be an album easily worth copping. No doubt about that.

Johnny Stimson - "SO. GOOD."
There is NOTHING like being bored with the music you've been listening to for weeks, and then finding a shiny gem while watching one of your favorite summer television shows.
New artist Johnny Stimson absolutely blew me away with his fresh, sultry single "SO. GOOD." Influenced by the classic Motown sound, Stimson stands out in a saturated crowd of vocalists ready to give us something more. Check out his "SO. GOOD." below. Enjoy!
