What I'm Watching: James Tillman - "And Then" / Download: "Shangri La EP"
Shangri La is an amazing 4 track window into the soulful talent of James Tillman. A heartfelt ode to love that was recorded in Brazil, this EP is what they must mean when they talk about soup for the soul. Check out the video then click over to his Bandcamp page to listen to the EP.

Download: Mr. Ivory Snow - "#CHIANNE"
Some people disappear from the social networking world, some people go on a tirade on them, and others decide to use their craft to get over a breakup. Mr.Ivory Snow decided to use the latter. He gives us the story behind #CHIANNE here so check it out then hit play at the jump. Definitely some unique remixes here.
#CHIANNE is a project based on a recent break up that I had a couple of weeks ago. Usually when dealing with a break up I would write a number of songs inspired by all of those moments but instead I wanted to take a different approach. This is the first project where I'm relying on my beats to tell the story of my previous relationships because I feel sometimes there aren't enough words to describe how you feel. So what better to do it than to create instrumentals based around those moments. The acapellas on each beat are used to keep it "rapper resistant". So for all the listeners, the artist used for the mash-ups do not represent those emotions as described on the track list. I used the color yellow because that was her favorite color and it represents her impatience & criticism that she had towards my goals & dreams. Nonetheless, I hope everyone enjoys this project.
Peace.
P.S. For everyone who has listened and supported the project, please use the #CHIANNE hashtag. Thank you.

Download: DNH - "40's and Cheesecake"
New music from a couple of heads of out CT from Details and Rob Holcomb, also known as DNH. It's all free so definitely check it out and download it! Peep Details detailing what the album is about.
Here's a quick breakdown.
Track 1 - That’s for my jailbirds, our trouble makers, the kids throwing glass at the axe factory windows.
Track 2 - For the Odd Future fans who expect a little more depth. And for Joey Batts to just steal the show.
Track 3 - It's called Suburbia. Cuz it’s for suburbia.
Track 4 - Dunno bout Rob Holcomb but verse 2 for me was for a majority of the acts in Connecticut. You can be pretentious but have some respect for your people.
Track 5 - Dutch Vega, I figure you might like this one for some reason. We made it cuz we're already so cool, no?
Track 6 - Any Immortal Technique fans?
Track 7 - We're aware of who's trying to sell out and who actually might, but how does that make one feel?
Track 8 - For my drinkers and smokers who drive and the feeling behind it.

What I'm Watching: Rapper Big Pooh & Roc C - "The Crew"
Neeeeeeeeeeeew shit!!! Rapper Big Pooh and Roc C. Aight! Got that boom bap, no frills rap feel. Diggin' it. Check the visuals.
For almost a decade, emcees Rapper Big Pooh and Roc C have put in serious work, consistently releasing dope music and collaborating with the most respected emcees and producers in the rap game. Naturally, it felt right for the two veterans to join forces for a bicoastal collaborative album. And thus, the pair have released Trouble In The Neighborhood.
Blending their styles to create a cohesive 11-track project wasn't simple, but it's something Pooh and Roc agreed would sound the most authentic. "We call it controlled chaos," explains Big Pooh. A sample of their creative chemistry is evident in "The Crew," the album's Booth-featured lead single.
The project has a heavily West Coast-influenced sound, which is due in large part to production contributions from Evidence, Focus..., S1 and others. And with appearances from Alchemist, Chaundon, Joe Scudda, MED, T3 (of Slum Village) and more, lyric-loving fans won't be disappointed. “It’s me and Roc coming together and causing ruckus on records,” explains Big Pooh.

El Da Sensei - "Show Stoppa" (prod. by DJ Devastate)
First, one with Pharoahe Monch and now another dope track with El Da Sensei off the upcoming "Unearthed" album mixed by DJ Revolution?!?! This joint reminds me of the early 2000s or so and it STILL bumps! May 13th, getting it.
Whether you were a tagger, a b-boy/girl or a Hip-Hop head, The Artifacts were one of the best to do it on the underground scene back in the day. Its been nearly 20 years since the release of their debut album 'Between a Rock and a Hard Place,' and if you're curious to know how the former Boom Skwad representative El Da Sensei holds up on the mic in 2014, you'll see that he hasn't lost a step with his latest effort "Show Stoppa." Featuring a sparse and bouncy beat with sharp cuts supplied by DJ Devastate, the jam has the New Jeruz native dropping bombs like it was 94' all over again. "Show Stoppa" is taken from Coalmine Records forthcoming compilation album Unearthed (Mixed by DJ Revolution), which is scheduled to drop on May 13th via CD and digital download.. stay tuned!

Serge Severe & Gen.Erik - "Giant" feat. DJ Total Eclipse of the X-Ecutioners
Ok, ok!!! I see you, or rather, I hear you. This joint got my head on some back and forth shit, man. From start to finish, from the flows to the cuts, this track doesn't disappoint me. Straight Hip-Hop!
Serge Severe and Gen.Erik unite on "GIANT" featuring an awe inspired guest appearance from the legendary DJ Total Eclipse of The X-Executioners. The new track serves as an appetizer from their upcoming album to be released later in 2014.

Download: J-Live - "Around The Sun"
Fortunate to see this dude live just days ago performing tracks off this album. He put together a great show. Picked a dope and fluid lineup of acts. The night, in my eyes and ears, was a success. Then I copped the album and got to zone out with in at home, speakers blaring. J-Live has done it again. Another dope album assisted by a few of his equally talented peers is in the books. You can listen to "Around The Sun" in its entirety on his bandcamp and make sure you cop it as well. You won't regret it.
J-Live's 10th release and 6th full length album, "Around The Sun" marks yet another growth spurt for the indie hip hop veteran. "Around The Sun features a smooth yet gritty OG boom bap New York sound. It's a cohesive work of art, but still an eclectic listen with a wide range of production as exhibited by the first two released tracks "Money Matters" prod. by Oddisee and "Not Listening" prod. by Korede.
