@KirbyLauryen's A Song A Day: Day 196

I don't think I've heard Kirby sound better than she sounds on Day 196. Virtually perfection, Kirby's strong, powerful vocals bring us a song inspired by Keyshia Cole. If I could throw in my personal opinion, I don't think anyone could sing it better than the one who wrote and sang it first: Kirby.

Enjoy.

What I'm Watching: @the_17th "My Drug"

"Just when I think that I can break the ties, I shake inside,
and only more of you helps me. But only more of you kills me."

 Although grim, The 17th brilliantly executes the video for his first major song "My Drug," which gives an eye-opening look into the struggles and dangers of drug addiction. What I also find fascinating, is that if you listen closely to the lyrics, "My Drug" doubly serves as a representation of an extremely toxic relationship. All too often, we hear stories about friends and/or family in situations that are detrimental to their mental health, but because that's all they know, they continue to stay involved and it becomes some sort of an addiction. With that being said, The 17th has taken steps to help those in need. His song is currently being featured as an aid for a music therapy class at a local drug rehabilitation facility in his home town. Because both the song and video have been so well received, it is his hope to get "My Drug" into rehab facilities across the country. I congratulate him in his effort because as many of us understand, whether from personal experience or from people we know, drug addiction is a very real thing, and to fix the ever growing problem, it starts at home.

To stay up-to-date with The 17th, you can follow him at twitter.com/the_17th (he's a really nice guy, so hit him up) and you can hear "My Drug" and his latest track "Push" in rotation at Radio 104.1 FM. The 17th is also working on his debut EP Free Music set for release next month, but in the meantime, enjoy the video.

Natasha Ramos: A Day In Her Journey, episodes 1-3

There's a business side and there's a human side to every artist. Today, we get to see the very human side of Natasha Ramos. Sounding more amazing than ever, we get to see in episode 1 the time she spends  in the studio working hard. If you're an artist, producer, engineer or someone familiar with the music industry, you know the time that's spent in the lab perfecting the craft. Though in episode 2, we get to see the goof in Natasha, as well as the crazy, silly studio shenanigans. In episode 2, we get an intimate but brief look into Natasha's familial and personal life. And you know the girl is dope because she plays Michael Jackson: The Experience on the Wii. You can't beat that kind of awesome. Ha! So if you're a fan of Natasha Ramos (which you should already be), check out her "A Day In Her Journey" series on YouTube below. Enjoy.

@KirbyLauryen's A Song A Day: Day 195

As a woman, I can completely identify with Kirby's latest track, "Save Him." What I love most about this song is the progression of reality in the lyrics. At the beginning, the thought of being able to save a man is a tangible one, but towards the end, the realization sets in of how impossible a feat saving him is. Nothing short of brilliant honesty here. Enjoy.

Following their 2010 EP carpe., the duo continue to build on their musical chemistry to deliver a cohesive and quality project. No skips. Hit play and enjoy. Chea!

Interview: Miss Special x Rapsody

I missed this one a few days back. Well, I'm caught up now. Ha! Fresh interview. Enjoy Miss Special chopping it up with Rapsody.
Miss Special caught up with Rapsody after the Kooley High show in Brooklyn last week,the same day that she debuted her song "Believe Me" on local radio. They spoke about the NBA Championship, being nicknamed "The Beat Hoarder" in the studio, and her favorite 9th Wonder samples.

She also spoke about doing songs that are "bigger" and the preparation of her album "The Idea of Beautiful" which releases August 28, 2012. She also says that it is mostly produced by 9th Wonder and The Soul Council, and names the features including: Mac Miller, Pete Rock, Ab Soul, Raekwon, BJ The Chicago Kid, and more.

In addition she mentions working with Chuuwee soon and her upcoming trip to South Africa.
