NEW RELEASE: John Graham "Magic: Blanc et Noir"

I remember when I first met John Graham. The dude hit me via twitter with his music. Usually I ignore the spam like requests but for whatever reason I reached out to John to provide him with feedback in how he approached folks with his music because I enjoyed his music. When offered the same information, some guys respond with a 'go to hell', but he took what I said and built on it. You could tell he was serious about his craft.

That was the beginning of our journey.

John has been featured on the site a gang of times since then. Now he's back with what he's calling his last album, Magic: Blanc et Noir. I had the opportunity to work with John on the project as Art Director/Designer for his album's artwork, which includes a pretty dope digital book with the download. Magic: Blanc et Noir is a solid album, with quality production and just the right amount of feature, as to not drown out John's extraordinary message. The dude is dope, with a lot to say. It's a powerful album. And if you feel a little uncomfortable with the content of a few of the tracks, a dialogue is what John would love to happen. Listen. Think. Enjoy. Chea!

What I'm Watching: Arrested Development "Living"

"Nas said HipHop was DEAD. Arrested Development says HipHop has been buried alive."

For all my old music heads, if you didn't already know this, I think we should all be very excited to see Arrested Development hitting it hard with the new music. Speech drops MAJOR knowledge in AD's new joint "Living" released this past Spring. The lyricism, the music (REAL MUSIC), the visuals in the video... all ridiculously crazy amazing. This is what Atlanta music used to sound like. Not all this hippity hoppity shiggidy that's on the radio now. So if you've got some time, press play on this one right here, jump up out your seat (unless you're in the car), and rock to it. If you needed the proof, it's right here: Hip Hop ain't dead... Welcome back, Arrested Development. Welcome back.

Enjoy.

Interview: Special Sundays x Red Pill & Hir O

Fresh. Fresh. Fresh interview. Check it.
After their performance at the “Show And Prove Showcase” in Brooklyn, as well as they day they dropped their project “A Dream Within A Dream”, Miss Special got to talk to Red Pill and Hir-O. They spoke about how they came together and how they worked together, with Red Pill attributing it to Hir-O being “the next big producer out of Detroit”.

They also spoke about the title being “very very very loosely based on the movie ‘Inception’” and the project stemming from being pissed off at the Michigan hip-hop scene’s veterans and newcomers. They talked about Red Pill’s inspirational lyricism that he considers “emo rap” and the vision behind Hir-O’s “honest” beats, as well as some of the samples used. They also touched on the features on the project, mentors such as Othello, Invincible, 14KT, and upcoming visuals. “Dream Within A Dream” is just the prelude to their full debut “The Kick” coming soon.
Special Sundays Radio Show is live every Sunday from 2-4pm PST on www.SpecialSundays.com
