What I'm Watching: SigNif "Like My Style"
"[Like My Style] is me explaining how I don’t fit the typical rapper mode, and how I’m 100% fine with that," says SigNif. "Embracing Rejection is about the trials and tribulations of a starving artist trying to pave her way into an industry that’s not particularly in her favor. Rejection is a big part of life and once I was able to except it, I was able to use if for encouragement."
I do like SigNif's style. I've liked it for a while. I've been a long time fan of the Milwaukee bred, NYC based emcee but you already know that because she's no stranger to the site. Sig has been on a bit of a recent hiatus but according to her recent texts, she's getting her mojo back. And today she decided to unleash the Darren Cole/self-directed video for Like My Style off of her TMB, HipHopisCoolAgain.com and KevinNottingham.com presented project, Embracing Rejection. Enjoy the vid.
If you're in NYC April 25th, check her at Lit Lounge (93 2nd Avenue) with J. Philippe, Laurensara, Ane, Yoshi Thetalent and K Rizz. And when you get the chance, vote for Sig to compete for a slot at this years BK Hip Hop fest. Chea!

What I'm Watching: ¡MAYDAY! - "Imprint" feat. Jovi Rockwell (Prod. by Plex Luthor & Wrekonize)
"They say a fingerprint is one of a kind." That's how I feel about ¡MAYDAY!. Here they release another cut featuring a nice addition to the track with Jovi Rockwell from their absolutely amazing, soul satisfying, epic of an album "Take Me To Your Leader". I've stated numerous times how that album is my favorite one of 2012 so far and by far. I love how intense and dynamic their music is from the lyrics to their vocal arrangements to their production. I have absolutely no qualms about the album whatsoever. But enough of the rambling, check the visuals.

TMB x Uni-Fi Records Presents: Monster House "Raiders of the Lost Art"
Back in February the homie Audio Pilot sent me a track that had been recorded that weekend by SPEAK Easy and Panic. It was among a few that had been done with him on production and the two emcees on the mic. What started as an email introducing me to the newly formed crew going by the name Monster House, became a partnership with TMB and Milwaukee based Uni-Fi Records to present the project. TMB has had ties with MKE since we started back in '09 and we're excited to be part of this LP. With a series of well received singles, we finally present the final product, eleven solid tracks, recorded over the course of six weekends or so. This is Monster House and welcome to the Raiders of the Lost Art. This is storytelling at its' finest. Chea!

Meet Mahalia
But she's 13.
Okay, that's the last time I'll mention her age because what's important here is the music. And boy does Mahalia deliver. Folks will make the obvious comparisons to Corinne Bailey Rae and Adele, among others, but I'd rather let Mahalia be Mahalia, as she continues to develop and grow into her own sound. When I first received the email from SoulCulture introducing me to the UK singer/songwriter, I was a bit hesitant. Yes, age was a primary factor (okay, I mentioned age again). But once I watched the interview and began to listen to more of her music, I was impressed.
Today, I've found myself on a bit of a non-Hip-Hop kick and I'm pleased because that caused me to stumble across the very talented Mahalia. So, enjoy the interview below with SoulCulture and check out more from Mahalia here. Chea!
