The homie Jinesis takes on Homeboy Sandman's "Not Pop" and gives it a new spin. Fresh. I dig it. Hit play and enjoy.
When first hearing Homeboy Sandman's "Not Pop" song there were lines that stuck out to me. One of the lines was "*they tell me dumb it down, I tell them smarten up*". At first I was going to take that part and flip it on some chop & screw vibe, but that didn't happen. I decided to turn this flip into a remix and I came up with this. We the Spartans, son. Pardon us. -Jinesis

Shoutout to homie Khal at RockTheDub.com for getting this mix out. Just like he said, there's plenty of folks putting together mixes for the late, great, and legendary Heavy D., and this is just a different version from across the seas. So hit play and reminisce on the greatness that was the Overweight Lover Heavy D. He will forever be missed. R.I.P. Heavy D.
As we all know, the Hip-Hop community and the world at large lost one of the true greats within the game, Heavy D. In going through his catalog, I realized that we needed a proper tribute to the man. Yes, I know Mister Cee, DJ Premier, Marley Marl and DJ Wonder (among others) cooked up mixes for their respective radio shows, and they are all ill, but I had the thought early (maybe the night he passed) for my boy DJ Cable, who is a talented, award-winning DJ from the UK as well as a lover of that '90s Hip-Hop and R&B, to cook up a tribute mix for rockthedub. He hit me back with 52 minutes of funk, with a number of classics and hits right alongside features and remixes he was a part of, spanning pretty much all parts of Heavy's career. It's a dope mix in the end, and something I'm glad to help present. Let's celebrate the life of Heavy D with this one.
"I made this song in memory of my mother who unfortunately paid the
ultimate price as a victim to domestic violence. I joined forces with
the C.onnecticut C.oalition A.gainst D.omestic V.iolence to raise
awareness against this growing epidemic." -STAT
A few days ago I posted up the trailer to this video from BigStat off of his upcoming project Heart of a Lion. As mentioned, the new vid is in memory of his mother, who was a victim of domestic violence, and was unfortunately murdered as a result. BigStat is holding a fundraiser tonight with the Coalition Against Domestic Violence in Hartford, Connecticut, where they'll be premiering the video. The vid is deep and very heartfelt. Respect to Stat for sharing and shedding a light on a serious issue in today's society. Salute.

Miss Special aka Miss Interview caught up with Freddie Gibbs out in Cali. Dope interview as usual
Last night I was able to interview Freddie Gibbs after his performance at 330 Ritch in San Francisco. We spoke about performing live with Grillade, his track "Chill" with Trackademicks, Phonte and 1-O.A.K, Young Jeezy being one of his inspirations and him appearing on "Thug Motivation 103" set to release December 20th. We also spoke about his newest release "Cold Day In Hell", including the features on it, his EP "Lord Giveth, Lord Taketh Away" with Statik Selektah, remixing Random Axe's "Chewbaca" and what's next for him.
That dude Koncept is one funny ass dude. But that should be no surprise, because the Brown Bag AllStars collective are some insanely funny and extremely talented fellas. Koncept, with Beverly close at hand, drops off the promo video for his upcoming project awaken, due out on iTunes December 13 and the official release January 10. But instead of me rambling, I'll let Koncept take it from here.
Watch The Sky Fall" feat Royce da 5'9 (produced by Marco Polo) is the lead single for Koncept's debut album, awaken, available now on iTunes through Soulspazm Records.
So you're just gonna start the first track, the Intro track, on your mixtape with "The Roots - Act Too (Love of My Life) in the background while you have some of the all time dopest lyricists in my era of loving the genre speak about when they first fell in love with Hip-Hop right off the bat?!?! I see you, MacGuyver. I see you and I'm listening. With the volume UP!
MacGuyver goes through a series of some classic production he uses to flow over skillfully and at times effortlessly. As much as we as fans can get tired of hearing folks rap over beats we've heard over and over, this time feels to be different. I might have to chalk it to the actual instrumentals he used. They're a collection of instrumentals from some of my favorite tracks in Hip-Hop in my life.
He goes in track after track about a numerous of topics related to his life and this Hip-Hop music he's putting his foot right into. He definitely handles his own throughout the mixtape with only three tracks having a feature. I can honestly say I enjoyed this mixtape thoroughly and it brought back some of that good feeling I used to get when I listened to the original tracks back then. Guess that's why this project is perfectly titled "The Nostalgia Tape".
Check out "Respiration" off the mixtape and be sure to download the entire album after. It's free!!!
