Sketch Tha Cataclysm - "Kidney Stones" (Prod. Willie Green)

This latest is off Sketch's recent release and it's one of my favorite cuts off the album. Willie Green does a dope job on the production side of this track and Sketch fluidly compliments this joint. Had my head noddin' for sure. Check it.

Following a string of EPs released over the past two years, Connecticut native Sketch Tha Cataclysm presents his second full length album, Indie Rappers Do It For Gas Money (Vol. 2). The album is described as a love letter/hate mail to the listener, regarding the life of an independent MC. It covers the peaks and valleys of Sketch's current personal life-style as a live performance specialist. The 13 album tracks give you insight into the heart and soul of the artist as artist, the audiences encountered, and relationship's gained or broken, and features production from Defnyshn, Willie Green, Dirt E. Dutch, True Scribe, and Sketch himself. The project also features appearances by Sketch's long time affiliates, Rising Sun Quest, Roc Doogie and Expertiz along with MEGABUSIVE, Big Jess of Unknown Prophets, Aeon Grey, Teddy Faley, PremRock, and more!

TMB Presents: "A Beat For You" Produced by @therealmarkv

We linked up with Wisconsin producer Mark V again on a new project. While most of this site is dedicated to Hip-Hop, I have a fond appreciation for soul music. Actually, I love soul music. I guess that makes sense considering Hip-Hop is fused with soulful undertones by way of rhyme and often times production.

Donny Hathaway was one of those artist that defined soul and is among my favorites. A few months ago we linked up with NYC based producer Jinesis for Otisis, a beat tape of Otis Redding samples. Along the same lines, we're working with Mark V on a beat tape with Hathaway samples. This is the title track from the new project, A Beat For You [The Donny Hathaway Beat Tape]. Hit play, vibe out and enjoy. Chea!

What I'm Watching: Melanie Fiona "4am"

I feel the same way about this track now, that I felt back in August when I first wrote about it. Enjoy the video. Chea!
Why would you break Melanie Fiona's heart? Damn. Got her sitting up at 4am waiting for some ain't shit dude to return home. That's a shame. Mel, call a brother and let's figure out your heartbroken situation. I mean, you're pouring out your heart to some negro who's probably out with a dancer while we could be pouring out a glass of wine with some cheese and crackers. I'm high class. Allegedly, of course. Ha!

What I'm Watching: Soul Khan "Alec Baldwin"

One of my favorite tracks off of Soul Khan's the Acknowledgement EP. Soul serves up a fresh video for Alec Baldwin, complete with a field of dreams and a Nissan Sentra. Don't even ask what he buried out there, or you'll be an accomplice after the fact. Ha! Press play and enjoy. Chea!

Oh and if you wondered why Soul Khan stopped battle rap, here's his answer. Ha!

What EMS Is Listening To ... "Black Swan" x @ItsEddieCaine

If any of you all follow the artists I post up, then you know I mainly stick to the R&B. I have absolute love and respect for Hip-Hop, but my heart generally vibes with the R and the B. HOWEVER, after the track I just got in the inbox, that's definitely about to change. I put out a request for folks to send me music (since they never do), and got quite a surprise this go 'round. First track sent, I think, was a great one. I can pretty much tell whether or not I'll like something in about 10 seconds or less, but as sooon as I put Eddie Caine's "Black Swan" on, it was an instant love affair. Although the track is short, *sad face* I think folks can vibe with this. I look forward to finding out more about Eddie Caine and the projects he's working on.

Also, shouts out to @JosephAParker for hitting me up with this. Enjoy.

Interview: Miss Special x Jhene Aiko

So, yeah I'm just going to call her Miss Interview. That's official now. Ha! Continuing her interview grind, Miss Special (Miss Interview) chops it up with Jhene Aiko. Enjoy.
At her show last Thursday night at 330 Ritch in San Francisco, I had the opportunity to interview the lovely Jhene Aiko. We spoke about her sisters former group, working with Fisticuffs as part of her sound, her writing process for "Sailing Souls", how the theme of "Sailing Souls" came about and her top 5 current rappers. We also spoke about her covering "Marvin's Room", performing Lil Kim's "Crush On You" and what's next for her including recording, performing and upcoming videos for "Do Better Blues" and "My Mine".
