What I'm Watching: Eric Sosa "Came Along"

Pretty fresh video from Eric Sosa off of his Rhyme & Noodles: NO ARTIFICIAL Flavoring Vol. 2 project. The track and video take a self-reflective tone, looking back and thinking about the moves for the future. Enjoy the James Calinda directed vid.

Dru Ha Marathon Training

Some things definitely deserve to be covered. Remember when Diddy ran the city and everyone couldn't stop talking about it? Well Duck Down Records CEO Dru Ha is running the New York City Marathon on November 6th as part of the NYC Alzheimers Association chapter team in memory of his father. You have to respect that. Check out part one of his training vid featuring celebrity trainer Mark Jenkins (he's trained Diddy, Mary J and others). Look out for ep 2 coming soon.

@Royceda59, Kid Vicious, Duece Bug & BC Connect at Toad's Place (Pics + Vid)

Toad's Place on Friday, September 9th got to host Royce Da 5' 9", one of Hip-Hop's illest MCs. But he wasn't alone. Kid Vicious came through with him to help rile the crowd up and also perform a few solo tracks himself. The night began with a Full Blast of dope music by cats like BC Connect, and Duece Bug who never performs without Connecticut's Illest Hypeman, Chuck Nickels aka Itz Urboi! Those in attendance got to witness what a really good Hip-Hop show should feel like, look like and sound like from beginning to end.

Though Toad's wasn't packed to the back of the walls, at times, it sounded like it was. Crowd participation was at a level that those representing Full Blast is known to achieve. Some time during the performance, the Full Blast crew paid respect to one of their fallen soldiers who recently lost his life, hence the "Flick My Bick / R.I.P. Lighta" shirts the cats were rocking.

By the time Royce Da 5' 9" and Kid Vicious came out, it seemed like all they had to do was perform. All eyes were on them, as well as their ears. Hands were up and lyrics were being recited at the top of their lungs. I was able to get a few shots in so take a look. Dopeness.

Today, to celebrate their album being available on Vinyl, which comes with a free bonus 45 that includes two remixes, they decided to unleash this track. Dope. Enjoy. Chea!

Before The Riots. An interview with @UCanCallMeLA

"L.A. is a fresh female emcee. For me, she came out of nowhere. For her, she’s always been here. And our path’s crossing was really all about timing." - ThroatChopU, Return Of The Real

I first started to cover the Brooklyn female emcee L.A. and her music last August before the drop of her debut project The Presentation. However, it was in July that I first caught L.A. on a track when she was featured on another NYC based emcee ScienZe's The Phone Tap(e) project. I was immediately impressed and felt that her potential needed to be documented, and decided to cover her music leading up to the release of The Presentation this past January.

Her debut was big, with a fresh mini-movie video to go along with the project. And now so many months later, L.A. has been featured on MTV SuckerFree and DollarVanDemos, and her work has found its way on to HipHopDX and DJBooth, among many other sites.

People were beginning to take notice and I thought that was dope. But she's been generating a buzz among indie sites long before she cracked the bigger domains and it was fresh to see their acknowledgment of her work. I knew from that first track that the girl was incredibly talented, and her live show only solidifies that. The college educated, full-time-job-holder has bars and a vision. Bars and vision that need to be heard and felt.

L.A. is dope. L.A. is ill. And at the end of the day, I'll always come back to something I wrote about her in November in my column over at RefinedHype: "In a Hip-Hop scene where people only recognize one female in rap (at a time), it’s important that you check for L.A. Her rhymes and thought process and views on music are much deeper than a lot of surface level music we hear today."

It was soon after that release of The Presentation that she began work on what would be a project produced solely by Cali based Hippie Sabotage, The L.A. Riots: Mental Fatality. And now after two singles and a fresh video to match, we're on the eve of Mental Fatality. I reached out to L.A. to get her thoughts going into the release of her new project. Check out our conversation after the jump.
