What I'm Watching (4/13/11): Murs, The Black Sunn & 810, Reks and Quake

I'm way off schedule this week (truth be told I was off schedule last week too) but shit you still get music out of it, so don't fret. Ha!

I didn't really want to hold these another day, so here are some fresh videos that I've bumped into on the Internets or caught via email. Today, you get a solid offering from Murs, The Black Sunn & 810, Reks and Quake. Enjoy the four dope videos after the jump. Chea!

Dana Coppafeel x Reason "Know Flight Zone"

I'll be honest, I've been sitting on this project for a little while now. I blame it on time. If only I had more time to listen and share music. Dammit!

Anyway, I've been a fan of the homie Dana Coppafeel for sometime now. And recently I've began to really appreciate the quality production from Reason, who has an extensive production resume on the Milwaukee Hip-Hop scene. The two have teamed up to deliver a high energy project in Know Flight Zone. With features from G-Eazy, Adebisi, Prophetic and more, I'm rocking with this project for sure. Shouts to Uni.Fi Records.

Enjoy! Chea!

maticulous "the maticulous EP" x marink "I Never Finish What I Star EP"

The homie J57 put me on to both of these fresh projects. One for the free.99 and the other for a very low price that you can't beat. Shiiiiiit.

In the maticulous EP you get great production with lyrical contributions from RA the Rugged Man, Reef the Lost Cauze, Ruste Juxx, Soul Khan and more. With marink's I Never Finish What I Star, it's very minimal on the features with the exception of the intro track featuring Atari Blitzkrieg but delivers nonetheless with its solid production.

Both projects are quality and definitely deserve your attention.  So pay attention mickey-frickie! Ha! Enjoy.

Interview: Miss Special x Hopie Spitshard

Editor's Note: I caught an email a few months back from Hopie Spitshard introducing her Dulce Vita project. I hit play and immediately thought it was dope. From production to content, Hopie delivered. So, when I peeped the interview from Miss Special with Hopie there was no doubt it was going up. Anyway, enjoy the interview.

I caught up with Hopie at SF State's Talentado event to talk about her newest EP Dulce Vita, as far as the vision behind the title, the LP of the same name, her upcoming video dropping Wednesday and more!

BLAX and The Mad Bloggers Presents: Adebisi "Blaxploitation"

The full project is finally here. I know somewhere Adebisi is relieved to finally have this project out, considering it's been in the works for sometime now.

I've told this story a few times about how I stumbled into Adebisi's music. I don't recall the exact moment, because it was either his 80's Babies mixtape or being the front man of Fresh Cut Collective, but either way I do remember the first reaction being, "dude is dope."

A few months back Adebisi reached out to us about getting behind his latest mixtape, Blaxploitation. I didn't hesitate to agree. This project is very much a mixtape in it's traditional sense of borrowed beats, with a few originals. It's a quality offering from the Wisconsin native who is now living in NYC. It's a great re-introduction as Adebisi preps for a full length album (which is mostly done) and another project after that. I'm not sure when he's gonna sleep. Ha!

Anyway, check out and enjoy the BLAX and TMB presented Blaxploitation. Chea!

TMB's Throwback Video of the Day ... D'Angelo - "Brown Sugar"

D'Angelo, D'Angelo, D'Angelo... Brotha I need you to put down the pipe and pick back up the mic. Since it's late and I know you all have a job to get to in the morning, I'll keep this short. I adore this man. He's probably one of the dopest neo-soul artists of our time. Those gorgeous smooth vocals and bedroom eyes makes for the perfect entertainer! And the body didn't hurt either. It took a lot of restraint to avoid posting a shirtless picture and I'm sure my male cohorts get tired of me talking about how yummy these artists are. So, I digress. Anyhow, this post was inspired by @JosephAParker. Definitely a fabulous throwback. So enjoy "Brown Sugar" off of 1995 album with the same name. Enjoy.

First Listen: Man Mantis "Cities Without Houses"

I'm gearing up for what I imagine will be a stressful 72 hours.

So, when I hit play on the newest project from the faceless Wisconsin producer Man Mantis, it set me at ease and took my mind off of that fast approaching 72 hours of traveling, waiting and dealing with this and that back home. Man Mantis is no stranger to the blog, having been posted on the site a few times with either individual projects or collabs with other folks. The dude is extremely talented and I dig his work. His latest, Cities Without Houses is a very chill project. Among my favorite cuts, "Minor Aches and Pains", "Everything Is Fine" and "Be Just This"."Teacups of Our Ashes" is definitely my favorite on the project.

Definitely a fresh project. Enjoy.

A little bit about the project from Man Mantis:

"Monday, March 11th saw the release of Cities Without Houses, the first solo LP from masked Madison, WI producer Man Mantis.  Released on World Around Records, Cities Without Houses is the follow up to Mantis’ well-regarded Sea Ambulance EP, and is filled with the same kind of druggy, highly orchestrated sonic landscapes that made Sea Ambulance so intriguing.  Produced, mixed and mastered entirely by Man Mantis during late 2009 and throughout 2010, Cities Without Houses is now available as a “pay what you like” download through Man Mantis’.  In addition, he has just launched a Kickstarter campaign to get a limited run of vinyl LPs and cassette tapes of “Cities Without Houses” manufactured."

TMB's Throwback Video of the Day ... Tupac feat. Dr. Dre - "California Love"

We're back with another week of TMB's Throwback Video of the Day! How was everybody's weekend? Good? Good.

Moving right along. Now who wouldn't want to listen to this? It's one of Tupac's most popular collaborations and probably one of the BEST collabs of the 90's period. I actually heard this in the car on my way (I know, shocking right?) and I said to myself, "self... I bet the TMB audience could appreciate a Tupac throwback." And so it were. Ha! A talented young man and a soul gone too soon. Perhaps I should've ended the week with this, but there's nothing like a dope joint to get it started. Tupac's HIT featuing Dr. Dre, Roger Troutman (RIP) and the hilarious Chris Tucker, "California" love off of 1996 album All Eyez On Me.

CAN... YOU... DIG IT?! CAN YOU DIG IT, MAAAN?! We can dig it. Enjoy.

Shane Eli feat. Playboy Tre & Rittz "Let's Ride"

Word is the homie Shane Eli's new album hosted by DJ Skee and presented by Flud Watches I Can Do Better has been pushed back a little bit. But don't you fret, he's dropped a new cut from the project dropping via DJBooth.net sooner than later. "Let's Ride" is another quality track in a long line of quality tracks off the upcoming project. I'm definitely looking forward to it. In the meantime, allow "Let's Ride" to hold you over until the project drops. Enjoy. Chea!

e.d.g.e. "Target Practice Pt. 2" x "Edgelib"

e.d.g.e. f/ Dave Ryan & Jaykin "Target Practice Pt. 2" (mcenroe for downthedial.com) from e.d.g.e. on Vimeo.

You lucky bastard, getting two fresh e.d.g.e. videos in the same day. Ok, part of the reason you're getting two today is because I forgot to post up "Target Practice Pt. 2" a few days back. Ha!

e.d.g.e. delivered up fresh visuals for "Target Practice Pt. 2" featuring Dave Ryan and Jaykin last week. Today he dropped "Edgelib" from TMB sponsored Fifteen Minutes of Fame. The cool thing about the "Edgelib" video was that it was shot on the iPhone with the iMovie and 8mm apps. Fresh.

Enjoy both. All Flow Everything coming soon.
