About a month or so ago Halifax, Canada producer Ritchcraft told me about his ambitious project to put out 30 beats in 30 days (30 in 30) as a lead up to his visit to South By Southwest (SXSW) this year. Simply put, he wanted to introduce more folks to his production style to lay down a bit of a foundation for his trip to Texas to network and connect when music makers from around the world descend on Austin.
I thought the concept was dope.
So, The Mad Bloggers being longtime supporters of Ritchcraft's work were committed to a post per day to share his beats. I haven't been disappointed yet. The kid is talented.
15 days in with 15 days to go, I sat down with Ritchcraft to talk about the project a little bit. Check out our Q&A and day 15's video after the jump.
Welcome to another week of dope videos including a special pick from TMB's OC Supreme. Again hit me at readbeanpie@gmail.com to have your video considered. Enjoy!
Another dope cut from J. Good's upcoming Look on the Brightside project. The new project features TiRon, Ayomari, El Prez and more. In the latest preview from the project, "Change My Ways", the Sacramento emcee is joined by Von Pea (Tanya Morgan) and L.E.G.A.C.Y. (Justus League). The track was produced by T.U.S. (The Usual Suspects) brethren Tellapath. With cuts from DJ Jun, this track is definitely a winner. Enjoy. Chea!
Eternia is dope. If you've been following the blog for long enough, you know I'm a fan of her work. While surfing around youtube, I discovered these two vids featuring Eternia with Colin Dean Live at Joe's Pub in NYC. The video above is a solo set of "Akasha" with Eternia. Below is "Rebel" featuring Maya Azucena, Eternia and Hasan Salaam. I'm a sucka for a live band and a dope Hip-Hop jazz fusion. That's what you get out of both videos. Fresh. Sit back and enjoy. Chea!
Colin Dean on Bass, Rachel Z on Piano, Colin Stranahan on Drums, Sean Nowell on Sax. Filmed and Edited by Noisemaker Media. Cameras: Mark Carranceja and Justin Denmark. Courtesy of Joe's Pub at the Public Theater NYC.
On day 13, we find my second favorite beat in the 30 in 30 series. Fresh! Get the back story on Ritchcraft's 30 in 30 here and peep day 13. Enjoy. Chea!
Checked the inbox to find DJ Priority hitting us up with this project. Him and Venomous 2000, both out of my birth state New Jersey, come strong on this album with a style your speakers and ears are gonna dig. I've added two videos here, with Amazingly Fresh being one of my favorite cuts off the album. I definitely enjoy this entire joint. Support. Check it out.

Hot on the heels of John Legend & The Roots' Grammy-winning night, Truelements presents the first single release from WAKE UP! RADIO -- an epic collaboration between Black Thought, John Legend, and the God MC himself, Rakim -- "In the Ghetto (Wake Up!)" Produced by J.Period, this history-making digital 12" release pairs two of hip hop's most legendary MC's together on wax for the first time, with a soulful finale from R&B superstar, John Legend. Revisiting the themes of the Eric B. & Rakim original, "In the Ghetto (Wake Up!)" shines a new light on ghetto life to reveal that some things may have changed, but many more remain the same.
On January 25, 2011, the nation of Egypt erupted as the peaceful demonstrations against President Hosni Mubarak were met with armed resistance from Egypt's army. This was the beginning of Egypt's Revolution.
In the midst of the revolution, Arabian Knightz (comprised Rush, Sphinx and E-Money) released two singles, “Rebel” and “Not Your Prisoner”, that became anthems of resistance, gaining worldwide attention for their powerful lyrics and impassioned spirit against a wicked political system. Rush was in Tahrir Square daily with his people, E-Money held down his city, while Sphinx was forced to leave the country for the safety of his family amidst the gunfire and chaos.
I recently sat down with Rush to discuss Arabian Knightz, Hip-Hop and the revolution in Egypt. Check out our conversation after the jump.
Late last night DMV's own The Real Jay Mills hit me with her latest track. It's fresh. Check out "Haters Make Me Famous." I guess she has something to say, but the haters remain nameless. Ha! Look out for SummerMadness Vol 2. In the meantime enjoy this track. Chea!
