TheSeKondElement "The Graduate."
"Because I'm black and educated..."
It's odd how when someone returns from jail they return to more fanfare than someone who returns from college. What's up with that? It's odd that if a person goes off to school or takes pride in their education their accomplishments are brushed off with a "oh, this n-gga trying to be smart." What's up with that?
Our school system and community are both jacked.
Before my blogging days I was heavy into working with youth. For ages I worked with young people after school and during the summer. For a while I spent some time in a few inner city middle school classrooms getting young folk ready for high school and college, which included transitions and making decisions that were based on more than what their friends were doing or going. Sometimes that included decision making that wasn't popular among their peers.
I also spent some time working with youth in juvenile detention centers on the weekends.
During this same timeframe, I spent every afternoon running an after school program in suburbia as the director. I saw how differently young folks looked at education in those three settings. And how their parents looked at it. And how people from their surroundings looked at it. Some valued education. Some were just going through the motions.
At the end of every week I was exhausted.
Anyway, recently while cleaning up my music library I stumbled upon this track from TheSeKondElement. The Graduate (off of her The Kommencement LP) made me think about a lot of my experiences with youth. And the conversations we had about education. The Graduate is a powerful cut. I dig it. Join the debate down low in the comment section. In the meantime, hit play, enjoy.

Top $ Raz Is The New Flesh
Fresh artwork. Amazing production. Dope lyrics. And just the right amount of features. Top $ Raz delivers with The New Flesh.
The latest offering from the Far Rockaway Queens emcee is sixteen solid tracks, that starts off with the powerful jawn Mountains and ends with one of my favorite cuts, Nothing. The other fourteen tracks build on the story that Top $ is telling about his life and experiences. He's a storyteller. The New Flesh is a reflection of that.
Some of my other favorites on The New Flesh are Cold/Fresh, The Holy Ghost featuring Scienze, Jack and Coke Flow and the hilarious Don't Mind featuring Ciph Diggy and Alvietron. Oh and we can't forget about the killer track The Man that Top $ started the year off with. Or the monster of a track, The Plague, featuring YC The Cynic and produced by J57.
The New Flesh is a quality project, with production from Spills, J Monopoly, KO Beatz, Dr Khil and more. The New Flesh is executive produced by Coole High and Terrence "Thinker" Kelly.
With so many rappers on the scene who sound like cookie cutter replicas of others, Top $ Raz infuses a unique voice through The New Flesh.
I reached out to Top $ on the eve of this release. Check out our Q&A and a stream of The New Flesh after the jump. Chea!

What I'm Watching ... The Doppelgangaz "Tell Them"

What I'm Watching ... MeLo-X "Cooked Food"
Pretty fresh (and funny) video from MeLo-X for his track "Cooked Food." MeLo-X has been featured on the blog a few times, including his dope Adele remix to "Rolling in The Deep." Anyway, check out the video for "Cooked Food." Enjoy.
Malcolm MeLo Mustafa X is a man of many talents ranging from MC, DJ, Producer and Photographer to name a few. But now you can add Iron Chef to the growing list. In this mini movie inspired by the Caribbean unity of his upbringing in Flatbush Brooklyn, Mustafa and his multi-cultural band The Redd Strypes conjure up the right recipe to get the ladies caught up in his cooking pot. This Studio One inspired piece is Shot by Slick Jackson & Directed by Jesse Boykins III.

Check It ... Premonition "Mind Games" feat. OTiS CLaPP & Top $ Raz (Prod. by Miles)
A solid track from three strong New York emcees. In Premonition's third installment of the Sum is Greater series, he brings along OTiS CLaPP and Top $ Raz. Premonition's project last year, The Build, was a solid offering. I'm currently working my way through OTiS CLaPP's latest project, Welcome II Nowhere. And today Top $ Raz drops The New Flesh. Three dope emcees who make fresh music separately kill on this Mile produced track. Hit play and enjoy. Chea!

Let's Support @Aaron_Marcellus on American Idol
Atlanta's own 26 year old Aaron Marcellus tried out for American Idol and has made it through the first few rounds. What we need The Mad Bloggers' supporters help with is getting him more airtime. As you will see, Aaron has a beautiful voice that should be heard by everyone within reach. If you recall, I did a post about Aaron Marcellus & The Will Band and had the pleasure of introducing our supporters to this awesome duo. Now you can see Aaron on TV!
I haven't watched American Idol in years, but it seems NOW with the episodes that I have watched, they've got some real talent this season. I personally, will be watching and supporting AI this year because a friend of mine is competing for one of the most coveted spots on prime time television. So we need EVERY supporter to show the love! If you want to know more about Aaron, "like" his fan page on Facebook. Retweet this post and bomb Twitter. Y'all know what Twitter can do!
Please support our brother in music and watch American Idol this year. Witness Aaron grow as a phenomenal artist! Thanks so much guys and enjoy the performance!
