Over the last month or so, I've gotten to know Top $ Raz a little more. He's a cool dude and a very talented musician. His music, deep. His live show, dope. His latest cut, "The Plague", fresh. The track is a dark and gritty joint featuring YC The Cynic and produced by J57. Enjoy this joint now and look out for The New Flesh dropping February 22nd. Chea!
Jesse Abraham hit me with this track a few months back before it was attached to any project. Now the Spills produced track is back and will be on Abraham's upcoming EP, One Day, due out March 1st. Word is Abraham also has a video shot by Noisemaker Media due to drop soon for this track too. In the meantime, hit play and enjoy Spiderman on Vitamins. Ha!
Yesterday I posted up some information about Adrienne Mack-Davis' new project and release party. Also mentioned was this bonus track, "Echo Back", which dropped on DJBooth.net yesterday. It's a very powerful track. The Spills produced track has been on repeat for the last 20 minutes or so. I dig it. Hit play and enjoy. Oh and look out for the upcoming project, For the Love, dropping February 15.
The Cranberry Show (Arcane and Young Focus) are some pretty funny guys. As I once wrote, their sound is a fusion of fun tracks and high energy, with a comical approach. You get that same type of energy on their latest project, Regular Ass N*ggas. I've said in the past that while TCS will appeal mostly to a younger audience, not all older heads will write them off. "Time Of Day" is a prime example of a track that both audiences will vibe to. These fellas don't take themselves too seriously but they deliver. And while lyrically they won't blow you away, they have some great punchlines. I dig most of the music these young cats put out. So, check out the video up top and you can download Regular Ass N*ggas below. Enjoy.
Three times a week e.d.g.e. will release a new (or unreleased) track. Colorblind Eye is off of e.d.g.e.'s upcoming All Flow Everything project. As e.d.g.e. writes, "addresses some serious issues facing Black culture in today's society." It's a pretty dope track. Enjoy.
This joint right here I pulled from the inbox was on hold for a minute. Finally got to listen to it and I did a few times. I think it kinda grew on me. It's not bad. Atilla is unique but I'm going to say I enjoyed it. Check it out and hit us up with your thoughts on this joint.
A self proclaimed bad soul singer as oppose to a good rapper, Atilla uses more resources in one creative sitting than any normal hip hopper today could wrap their head around. Technically sound is the goal and understatement that brings a smile to Atilla daily.
Starting out drawing comics in elementary school, Sean Minor, better known in the KC Hip Hop scene as Atilla, learned the D.I.Y model early and which further lead him to tackle life with a more entrepreneurial outlook. Selling comics and beats early only fueled on youth was enough to cement Atilla's future in music and as a multi-media artist.
Raised in Kansas City, he was exposed to many forms of art from many different mediums. Atilla's background includes classical training in music, print, web design, video, and more from the Kansas City Art Institute, where he will graduate in Spring 2011.
Strata Type-1 is a debut and retrospect of sorts packaged as a collection of music began during the beginnings of Atilla's college experience. Old ideas, new ideas, and the challenge of encompassing all of the creative attributes can at times be a task. Atilla touches everything he puts out, from the beats to the mix, vocals to the master, design to video, he has become a creative Guru at only the age of 22. Open your ears in 2011 and listen for Atilla, he's been working diligently for you all along and you never even knew it.
Check out Al-Fatir's cut "Freedom Town" that got cut off his upcoming album set to be release on February 14 titled "Robots and Skylines". Tell us what you think.
Playing catch up sucks. Playing Pharoahe Monch's "Clap" does NOT! I can't wait for this album to drop. I'm a huge fan of his other two. Incredible mc. Incredible. Read more about it, turn your volume up and then hit play.
Pharoahe Monch W.A.R. (We Are Renegades)
July 27th 2023:
Lieutenant Gaviston speaks of a recon mission in Kabul, Afghanistan where he discovers classified information that changes EVERYTHING that he believes about this W.A.R. This information is uploaded & transmitted through time. If you eventually hear this; you have been ordained or genetically pre-exposed to have received this information. What you will eventually hear is a WARNING.
These words are powerfully delivered by Idris Elba to set a tone for Pharoahe Monch's upcoming album W.A.R. (We Are Renegades). The material presented is a consistent message from start to finish with new epiphanies exposed after various sets of songs. The order of music helps the listener see the vivid stories that Pharoahe is painting through the use of his lyrics. The production compliments Monch's delivery & takes on a genuine art form that could easily stand on its own. Live instruments resonate at the start & end of certain tracks, such as his title song W.A.R. featuring Immortal Technique & Vernon Reid. Producers Exile, Marco Polo, M-Phazes, Fatin, Diamond D, Mike Loe, Samiyam, Adam Deitch, Eric Krasno & Pharoahe Monch himself help shape the album into what will be Monch's greatest work to date.
Pharoahe Monch's vision for the album is supported with guest features that provide an eclectic mix of sounds. Fans can look forward to material with Jill Scott, Styles P, Citizen Cope, Jean Grae, Royce Da 5' 9," Immortal Technique, Vernon Reid, Phonte, Mr. Porter, Mela Machinko, Showtyme & DJ Boogie Blind.
W.A.R. (We Are Renegades) is scheduled to impact in late March through W.A.R Media/Duck Down Music Inc.
The Faceman drops his latest EP that you can get through his bandcamp page. I first caught The Faceman live at our fourth showcase with his homie Warren S. Britt. Dude is wild with his stage energy. I checked out his Ep and you should too. Let him know what you think.
Another track from Chuuwee featuring Melodee and produced by Cookin Soul off the new mixtape Grown Man Sport, due to drop soon. Damn, how many projects can Chuuwee have in the works?! Ha! Enjoy this dope track in the meantime.
