First Listen: @MyNameCuey "Cuey Sings The Blues"
I've known OnCue for about five years. His music and his flow have both grown over that time. And I remain a longtime fan of his work.
I recall a period when the homie was unsure about music. I remember a gchat convo where he talked about how long it had been for him since he was in a studio. He had taken some time to listen to other genres of music and reflect.
Musically, I think that was a turning point for him and his sound.
He did end up returning to the studio and has released two projects since that conversation. But I'd dare to call his new offering, Cuey Sings The Blues, his most personal project to date.
This sound he brings to the new project is a different one for the Connecticut native and Brooklyn transplant OnCue. Cuey Sings The Blues samples music from Death Cab for Cutie, Dave Matthews and Tracy Chapman, among others. Definitely not the traditional pool from which producers pull samples for Hip-Hop tracks.
What he brings is a unique and raw sound. Sure, they'll be the Kid Cudi comparison calling Cuey Sings The Blues an emo album but I respect and like what OnCue did on the 15 track free project. The 21-year-old OnCue is truly coming into his own.
Check out Cuey Sings The Blues and enjoy.

J. Cole x Sound Session x Ustream
Shoutout to DJ Hyphen for sending over this footage from an informal ustream interview with J. Cole while he was out in Seattle. I liked the down to earth feel of this interview. Enjoy.
The homey J. Cole was in town over the weekend for our Bumbershoot Festival and he came through the Sound Session studio to kick it with us. We recorded a normal interview, which we’ll air soon and also post here, but in the interim, you can peep the archive of the live UStream web chat that we did with almost a thousand listeners logged in to the room.
Cole ran through some random questions from his fans in the chat and I tossed him some that people were tweeting us at the same time. He talked about everything from his album, his upcoming mixtape, his touring, his favorite athletes, and much more. If you’re looking for a more formal interview, peep our sit down with Cole the last time here was in town right here. We’ll also have a new interview shortly…
Big shout to Cole, his crew, and the label homies…all some of my favorite folks to chop it up with. Continued success…Roc Nation in the building.

The homie Chedo over at TheComeUpShow.com hit us with footage from this years Battle of The Beatmakers up in Toronto. Check it out.
I’ve emceed at a Producer Showcase before so naturally I couldn’t wait to attend the Battle of The Beatmakers in Toronto. With talent like Big Pops, 808 Gang, Burd & Keyz, Neenah, Vokab, and so much more I was very excited to see who would win.
Congratulations to Neenah who is the FIRST female producer to win Battle of The Beatmakers 2010. Check out the video as I ask her how she felt to win the title and I also had the chance to interview grammy nominated Boi-1da who was one of the guest judges.

Check It ... @TiyePhoenix "48 Bars of Progression"
"I don't knock the sista, cause I'm sure there's a lot of pressure on her being the poster child for female rap in 2009 and 2010. But in terms of the preservation and continuation and expansion of the art form of Hip-Hop music and culture, I can't see what she's creating when she goes into the studio." - Tiye Phoenix regarding Nicki Minaj
Tiye Phoenix is dope. END OF STORY! Sure, I recall her Nicki Minaj comments on the BET Documentary, My Mic Sounds Nice. As soon as she said it, I tweeted it. I knew she'd probably get some backlash over it. Fuck that backlash. It's her opinion, one I agree with by the way. But you know those Barbie's are a mean army. You know if you disagree with them, you can ONLY be a hater. Folks really need to expand their vocabulary. Anyway, I caught the track via KevinNottingham.com. It's dope! Enjoy.

Download ... @ElGuante + @BigCatsbeats "Don't Be Nice"
Guante is a pretty dope spoken word artist. On Don't Be Nice, he takes that fresh spoken word sound to rhyme with beats provided by Big Cats! on a project executive produced by e.g. bailey + Sha Cage. Front to back, it's a very fresh project. Check it out.

Download ... BIG REC " RHHIB: The PreRECuisite"
BIG REC definitely puts a lot of music on his RHHIB: The PreRECuisite [Mixtape Vol. 1] project. There are a few interludes but mostly music. It's a good thing I think BIG REC is dope because a 25 track project might be hard to take but BIG REC delivers. His sound, dope. His lyrics, fresh. Check it out and enjoy!
