Rock of Heltah Skeltah Preps New Mix CD Rockin Out West

After recently beating out an attempted murder charge, Rock a.k.a The Rockness Monstah of Heltah Skeltah is back with his latest Mix CD project Rockin Out West, available September 7th, 2010 for physical CD release only. The album is an ode to Rock's time spent out on the West Coast in Los Angeles with guest features from Kurupt, Ras Kass, Nate Dogg, and more.

"Rockin Out West is my latest gem" says Rock. "Most diamonds are rocks that form under high-pressure high-temperature conditions but at the end you get something beautiful, something special, a gem. That’s all a metaphor for the case I faced over the past two and a half years. The case and the pressure I was under created the climate that gave me the fuel and the fire to do this project. It happened on accident, but then again I don’t really believe in accidents."

With Rock's powerful voice and hard hitting rhymes over classic West Coast hits, Rock is confident in the release, elaborating "To all of my fans and supporters, old and new, this gem is my gift to you! Rock on!"

Rock will be releasing several music videos from the forthcoming Mix CD, in the meantime fans can listen to the latest leak off Rockin Out West, "Rockridah" as Rock's distinctive sound flows over 2Pac's classic "Ambitionz Az A Ridah" below.

Hip-Hop Breakfast Ep 10

I'm about to hop a train headed downstate into New Jersey for my mom's wedding weekend. Yay for me (or not). Just joking. The dude is cool with me and I just like to clown the situation. Anyway, I felt inspired to put out a Friday version of Hip-Hop Breakfast. Be warned (and you can probably see from the track list) this joint will make you break out in dance OR call out of work OR leave early and head straight to get a drank and grind that shit out. Anyway, enjoy. Happy Friday!

01. Power (Remix) - Kanye West
02. Just Playing (Dreams) - Notorious B.I.G.
03. I Wanna Rock (Doo Doo Brown) - Luke
04. Top Bottom - Psalm One
05. Pass The Dutch - Missy Elliot

Friday's Five Random Questions with @RaTheMc

RaTheMc is the fresh emcee out of the DMV with the unique style, who always stays fashionable. Even before I got into blogging, I'd heard her name kicking around. Over the last year, I've become a fan of much of her work. Her verse on one of my favorite joints, "Trouble" (featuring Jay Mills and Emperess) is crazy. RaTheMc is talented.

Anyway, RaTheMc decided to take the challenge this week. Check out how she answered five random questions.

STATS
Hometown: NE Washington DC
Current City: Largo, MD
How long have you been doing music: I've been doing music for about 8 years now but I put my 1st mixtape out in 2006.
Discography: The Resume (2006) Produced by Neako, A Mixtape about something...I think (2007) Produced by Judah, A Trip To Neptune (2008) Produced by Judah, Are You Not Entertained (2008) Produced by Judah, Trending Topics (2009) Produced by Judah, Heart of a Champion (AUG 31st 2010) Produced by AB the Producer
Label: Studio 43
Describe your music in five words or less: Organic, Fresh, Fun, Introspective

TMB: Okay, first question. Your celebrity crush at age 10, 15 and now?

R: At 10 - Batman of Immature. At 15 - Usher. Now - Lebron James

TMB: What TV character would you be and why?

R: I'd be Huey from the Boondocks because he's brilliant and rocks a ill fro.

TMB: You're at dinner with five people from history (living or dead) who are they?

R: Biggie, Martin Lawrence, Dave Chapelle, Michael Jackson and Jennifer Lewis

TMB: You're stranded on an island with one other album, which album is
it?

R: Carl Thomas - Emotional

TMB: And, the last question. Jesus and Kanye West are producing a track for you. What's your first line?

R: Nothing clever comes to mind but it would probably have something to do with Christian Dior (haha).

What I'm Watching ... @RazeTastic "Blue Collar"

Milwaukee has heat. I keep telling folks that. Check out the new video from Milwaukee fam Raze for his track "Blue Collar" off his "Living in Technocolor" project. It's the my-job-sucks-tell-a-passenger-fuck-you-grab-a-beer-jump-down-the-escape-chute theme song. Enjoy the video shot by www.GrownManCollective.com and featuring a gang of cameos.

Check It ... @SpeakEasyMilw "Rock That"

Brew City's own SPEAK Easy is back with new music off his upcoming mixtape, "That Was Easy." Dave Derrilykt of AudioPilot Productions hooked me up with this hard hitting track, "Rock That." Damn, it's an aggressive track, with SPEAK hitting you in the head lyrically and Dave complimenting the rhymes with the rock heavy beat. And when SPEAK is done rhyming on it, he tells you 'that was easy' and the beat just rides out. So dope. I'm definitely looking forward to the upcoming project.

Fresh cut. Enjoy.
It's not a "leak" because it's not for any particular project, just some verses I really, really, really wanted to get off my chest and brain.

Once Again, It's On: AUTOMatic "TRANSISTOR" August 28th

Editor's Note: We've had the opportunity to check out the AUTOMatic (A.P.R.I.M.E. and Trellmatic) "Transistor" project ahead of it's August 28th release date. It's dope. We featured "The Teenage Love" last week as our track of the week. We have a Q&A with the duo coming up but before then, we thought we let the homie JC Poppe tell you about the project. You can catch more of JC's good work on Milwaukee artists over at milwaukeeup.wordpress.com.

“Once again, it’s on.” This is the exact sentiment that the House of M veterans A.P.R.I.M.E. and Trellmatic wish to deliver to ears all across the world, hoping to build upon the success of their first solo album Audiology and the magnum opus that is the House of M’s group album, The Alternate Reality Of…

What exactly is on again? Simply stated, dope Hip-Hop is on again. As emcee A.P.R.I.M.E. flawlessly navigates the sonic waters created by producer Trellmatic, an undeniably fantastic voyage is embarked on. It’s not trap, it’s not trill, it is raw and rich music influenced by the golden era of Hip-Hop.

Once again, A.P.R.I.M.E. crafts lyrics that build around the ever present theme of doing what is right and good, creating music out of love, and not seeking the quick money or fame as a person who has compromised their integrity. Trellmatic’s beats are incredibly pleasing to the ear as he crafts them around cleverly chopped samples, leading to the organic feel Hip-Hop heads often crave so desperately after being let down again and again by so many different artists who pander to what is popular.

With vocal features from his fellow Mutants, Raze and Gambit, as well as Frankie Flowers, SigNif, and Milwaukee Hip-Hop mainstays Element and The Rusty P’s, there is quite the cast of talented artists filling in the supporting roles on the album. Engineered by Raze and Rhymefest associate Jonathan Frost, the album sounds crisp and clean, and perfect for any situation when quality Hip-Hop is needed.

The lead single “Once Again” is an amazing Jazz infused song that showcases the honest and witty lyrics A.P.R.I.M.E. has become known for.
