Once Again, It's On: AUTOMatic "TRANSISTOR" August 28th
Editor's Note: We've had the opportunity to check out the AUTOMatic (A.P.R.I.M.E. and Trellmatic) "Transistor" project ahead of it's August 28th release date. It's dope. We featured "The Teenage Love" last week as our track of the week. We have a Q&A with the duo coming up but before then, we thought we let the homie JC Poppe tell you about the project. You can catch more of JC's good work on Milwaukee artists over at milwaukeeup.wordpress.com.
“Once again, it’s on.” This is the exact sentiment that the House of M veterans A.P.R.I.M.E. and Trellmatic wish to deliver to ears all across the world, hoping to build upon the success of their first solo album Audiology and the magnum opus that is the House of M’s group album, The Alternate Reality Of…
What exactly is on again? Simply stated, dope Hip-Hop is on again. As emcee A.P.R.I.M.E. flawlessly navigates the sonic waters created by producer Trellmatic, an undeniably fantastic voyage is embarked on. It’s not trap, it’s not trill, it is raw and rich music influenced by the golden era of Hip-Hop.
Once again, A.P.R.I.M.E. crafts lyrics that build around the ever present theme of doing what is right and good, creating music out of love, and not seeking the quick money or fame as a person who has compromised their integrity. Trellmatic’s beats are incredibly pleasing to the ear as he crafts them around cleverly chopped samples, leading to the organic feel Hip-Hop heads often crave so desperately after being let down again and again by so many different artists who pander to what is popular.
With vocal features from his fellow Mutants, Raze and Gambit, as well as Frankie Flowers, SigNif, and Milwaukee Hip-Hop mainstays Element and The Rusty P’s, there is quite the cast of talented artists filling in the supporting roles on the album. Engineered by Raze and Rhymefest associate Jonathan Frost, the album sounds crisp and clean, and perfect for any situation when quality Hip-Hop is needed.
The lead single “Once Again” is an amazing Jazz infused song that showcases the honest and witty lyrics A.P.R.I.M.E. has become known for.

Check It ... Orikal Uno & Prof "Rev It Up"
There is something uniquely dope about this track. It's different and strange but for some reason I really dig it. Check the cut from the Minneapolis emcee Orikal Uno featuring Prof (Stophouse, Rhymesayers). The track is produced by Team Shells. Tell me what you think down in the comment section.

Check It ... L.A. (@UCanCallmeLA) Freestyle
There are a lot of emcees out there who just happen to be women that are dope, and L.A. is one. I featured her "From L.A." joint that was on ScienZe's The Phone Tap(e) project. She's dope. According to her, she's got an EP dropping hopefully next month. In the meantime, check her freestyle over at Barrelhouse TV. Enjoy. Chea!

What I'm Watching ... @Evidence - "To Be Continued..."
Evidence is a wild dude, filming his latest while riding a rollercoaster. I'm not a big fan of them but apparently, he has no problem shooting this video for "To Be Continued..." off the upcoming album 'Cats & Dogs' on one. Haha. Check it.

Download ... The Dirty Sample "Unluck"
Pretty fresh beat tape from the good folks over at Neferiu Records. Enjoy.
Always moving, we have another fine release from The Dirty Sample. His latest is an instrumental album featuring tracks dedicated to past girlfriends. Brutal, tender stuff, people. ;) Best part is, it's free - so be sure to grab it.

What I'm Watching ... Hal Linton - "Mind Control"
Out of left field I was able catch Hal Linton singing "I know about the birds and the bees / chasin' cats up the tree / I pay attention to detail baby / so pay attention to me. / It all starts off with a kiss / We work our way to the bed / but I won't get in your body, baby / unless I'm up in your head." This guy has got confidence if you're judging by his lyrics on 'Mind Control'. Soulful voice with range compliments the words to this track sung by someone born into a musical family in Barbados with both of his parents being classically trained musicians. For a 23 year old, this guy sounds like he wants to bust through the industry's gate swinging. Check it.

KingHellBastard, Remember The Name EP
Remember the name? Shit, how can I forget. KingHellBastard is dope.
It was about a year or so ago that I first came across the Milwaukee crew KingHellBastard. It was group member Dana Coppafeel who put me on to the group. Sidebar, I don't know how Dana has so much time to be in so many groups and focus on his solo work too and give it all 110%. The dude is hard working and definitely gets the work done to put out good music.
Anyway, I've been rocking with KHB since the first time I heard their stuff. At the time, they had a few joints floating around, namely a track called "Danger." That joint blew me away.
Their latest offering, Remember the Name, is set for an August 21 vinyl release, with a release party and video shoot at Mad Planet in Milwaukee on Saturday August 21, from 10:00pm - 2:00am. I've heard the full project that boasts features from Sadat X (Brand Nubian) Akroabatik, Raashan Ahmad, Stricklin and cuts from The White Shadow of Norway. The project has that "raucous boom bap" that their label Uni.Fi Records is so proud of.
The project opens with "Clubber Lang" and just builds lyrically and gets better from there. My personal favorites, "I Believe" with Raashan Ahmad, "Its The Crew Again" with Sadat X and a track that should be blasting EVERYWHERE in Milwaukee, "Ma'waukee."
If you weren't a believer in KHB before this project, you damn well better be after it.
I definitely believe.

What I'm Watching ... St. Joe Louis "30,000 ft"
The St. Joe Louis project is pretty dope. The NJ/Texas trio put together some pretty fresh visuals for 30,000 ft, one of my favorite cuts and the title track of the project. Check it out and if you're digging this, you should definitely download the full project. Enjoy!
