Download ... @THECANZ "Life After Graduation"

Interesting concept, inspired by Biggie and Kanye West‘s Life After Death and Graduation album. Mick Boogie x Terry Urban x DJ Booth.net present the The Canz in "Life After Graduation." It's worth checking out and at just 10 tracks, it's not too oversized. It does the job. Here's my favorite track off the project. If you dig it, head over to DJ Booth to preview/download the project.

What tha Lady is Watching...

“Lonely Toss” produced by @Jinesis featuring actors Nelson Estevez and Akira Adel

Lonely Toss featuring Nelson Estevez and Akira Adel from Jinesis on Vimeo.

My inbox has made me smile once again… Jinesis, who is a genius producer, shared a video from his “My Thoughts Exactly” project. Jinesis’ work is instrumental, which is a great break from the sometime monotony of beats and lyrics. Not that I ever get tired of great beats and lyrics but sometimes, the music is just soothing. His beats are almost like musical thoughts. You can feel what he was thinking as he created the beat. “Lonely Toss” is a video which translates the beat into a musical journey into a relationship. The situation presented is definitely something I can relate to and I have watched it a few times. The music is dope and the whole project can be downloaded at www.jinesis.bandcamp.com. Please take the time and check out the video “Lonely Toss” featuring Nelson Estevez and Akira Adel.

The Hip Hop Evolution Continues...

Photobucket
Mr. G.A.T. and Sinsay
SOB’s has always been a place where legendary stuff goes down. Music is an important part of SOB’s and when you think of that place, you think of epic events. The “ReBirth of Hip Hop Show” sponsored by LD Entertainment did not disappoint. Power 105’s own Cherry Martinez and Blogzilla (Global Grind) were holding the audience down in between acts. The line-up was heavy, boasting underground artists soon to be featured on MTVJams (a-hem *clears throat* Fred the Godson), it was a day for movements and progress. Smokes (from Wisconsin), G Swagger, Catalyst, Quesfire, Mr. G.A.T., Sinsay, Mysonne, Serius Jones, Tone Trump (with a special freestlye from Murda Mook) and Fred the Godson were all responsible for knocking down the stage that night.

LD Entertainment Artist Ques
LD Entertainment is sitting on a lot of projects to be heard. Sinsay’s “The Transition” is a certified banger. Due out this month, I already have my copy so I will be sharing. Fellow Bronx Noisemakers Mr. G.A.T., Quesfire, Fred the Godson and Mysonne all represented their borough well, blessin’ the stage and executing their performances with precision. Queens was well represented with F.C.E. artist G Swagg, who can spit fire with or without a beat. Smokes started the show with crazy energy. He had a great show presence but, New York is a tough crowd. It is always a blessing to hear good music coupled with talent. My ears appreciate and look forward to every project that these artists put out. Interview with Rainey "Skates" Cruz from The Rat Collective

I met Rainey at the 2nd annual Toast N Flow show held last month in Danbury, CT. He was selling a table full of the same hats pictured here and it quickly caught my interest. Finally caught up with the busy man to find out more about the hats and about The Rat Collective. Check it out.

The Mad Bloggers: Tell me about The Rat Collective.

Rainey "Skates" Cruz: Well, The Rat Collective is a skateboarding initiative that delivers skateboard goods to underprivileged skaters in The Dominican Republic.

TMB: How was The Rat Collective born?

Rainey: It all started when I was re-visiting my family and the island (after a 15+ year hiatus) 3 years ago. I was just getting into skateboarding and I had decided to take my deck with me on the trip. It turned out to be one of the best decisions I made on the entire trip! The board (and skating in my village) became a magnet for so many kids and new friends. It was pretty amazing to see how interested other people were and how much we all started to share while "learning" to skate. That's what inspired me... I just said to myself "Wow, here I am, from the U.S. with access to so many things that the kids out here don't have access to. Let me start bringing some more stuff!" And so my second trip out, I wound up taking 3 decks with me. Then more, until eventually I just started shipping goods out to my friends to continue fueling their interest.

TMB: How did you come up with the name The Rat Collective?

Rainey: The name Rat Collective just derives from the initiative and skating. I thought Rat because sometimes skaters are called "skate rats" because they just run around so much and get into all kinds of underground things and adventures. Then I thought Collective because this is much more than just one person skating, its about groups coming together to share in a passion for skating. And it involves everyone's effort, from me finding goods, to people donating, to my friends out there receiving and distributing.

TMB: Who's involved with The Rat Collective?

Rainey: Initially the Rat Collective was just my solo effort, but recently it's gotten so much attention among my circle of close friends. Now I have a couple of close friends here helping me with a lot of the logistics and planning. They want to see this get bigger and reach more kids!

TMB: How long have you been doing it?

Rainey: The Rat Collective has officially been around for 2 years now. Since March of 2009.

TMB: How can they reach you if they have any questions or would like to find out more about The Rat Collective?

Rainey: They can check out our blog at theratcollective.blogspot.com or hit me direct theratcollective@gmail.com We're also on Twitter @ratcollective.
