Check It ... KINGHELLBASTARD (KHB) "I Believe" feat. Raashan Ahmad

I've had the privledge of previewing most of the upcoming KINGHELLBASTARD (KHB) album and let me tell you, there is NOTHING but dope cuts throughout. It's definitely an exciting project. Check out KINGHELLBASTARD (KHB) "I Believe" featuring Raashan Ahmad off of the upcoming Remember the Name EP. Enjoy.
Die-hard Milwaukee hip-hop group KingHellBastard continues to deliver raucous boom bap and potent lyricism on their latest release from Uni.Fi Records. The album comes off a stellar 2009 which saw KHB receive constant airplay on 88.9 WYMS and 91.7 WMSE and led to the group winning Artist Of The Year and Video Of The Year in the Radio Milwaukee Awards, a trend which continues in 2010 with 88.9 already adding the first single "I Believe" to their rotation.

Building upon years of riotous performances and international collaborations, KHB brings out the heavy artillery on the 8-song record with appearances from Sadat X of the legendary Brand Nubian, Def Jux affiliate Akroabatik, Raashan Ahmad from Crown City Rockers, Stricklin from hip-hop supergroup EMC, and blazing cuts from The White Shadow of Norway.
Starting off with a veritable explosion of sonic energy and a thunderous verse from Akrobatik on the song "Clubber Lang", MCs Dana Coppafeel, Shemp, and DNA waste no time heralding their return with steely-eyed conviction over a heart-stopping beat from producer Reason, accented by the nimble bass playing of LMNTlyst and deft scratching of resident DJ OneL.

Keeping the intensity high, the record hits a celebratory note with the second track "I Believe" featuring an exuberant verse from crowd rocker Raashan Ahmad over joyous horn blasts and breakneck drums from Reason and a blistering scratch coda from White Shadow. Side A closes with two slices of serious funk, the booming bass of the White Shadow produced "It's The Crew Again" featuring the unmistakable voice of Sadat X, and the certified G-Funk banger "North Coast" featuring a hilarious verse from fellow Milwaukee native Stricklin.

With Side A dedicated to showcasing some of the collaborative efforts KHB have generated from constant touring, Side B allows the group to stand on it's own considerable talents with three songs from in-house Uni-Fi producer, The White Russian. First is the kaleidoscopic "PhD" where the MCs weave in and out of the verses as the beat builds up in layers of shifting soundscapes.

Next comes the fist-pumping ode to hip-hop's golden age "A Tribe Called Bastard", where each MC references quotables from the past over a beat that could have been at home on a tape deck in 1988 and recalls classics like "Scenario" and "The Choice Is Yours".

Lastly comes the heartfelt hometown anthem "Ma'waukee", an introspective look at the blue-collar roots and hardscrabble character of the Midwest set to a soulful and exultant beat that has already proven to be a show-stopper during live performances.

What I'm Watching ... Siji's - "Morenike"

Should the Gods deem me worthy of fatherhood, I have vowed to some day name my first daughter, ‘Morenike’ (moe-re-knee-ke). The name ‘Morenike’, in Yoruba means ‘I have found one to cherish’ and is usually bestowed upon a much sought after female child. Taken from my sophomore album ‘ADESIJI’, the song has thus far turned out to become a favorite among fans and connoisseurs alike.

In a traditional Yoruba naming ceremony, a number of choice ingredients, among them; Salt, Honey, Peppercorns, Water and Kola nuts, are used as symbolic gestures in prayer, so that the child’s life may in turn be sweet, adventure filled, self sufficient, healthy and tasteful.
Shot as a time capsule on location in New York, the video storyline unfolds as I make my way to a local Botanica in search of said items for the mother to be.

Much appreciation goes to Desiree Gordon who was exceedingly patient and generous with her time and her delightful little daughter ‘Morenike’ whom I was able to capture before conception as well as on her onscreen debut. Special mention should also be made of Laron Land’s brilliant horn arrangements (part afro, part Jazz/big band swing), which helped to lend significant weight to the feel and mood of the song.

As always, if you dig what you see/hear, kindly purchase, share, blog, dedicate, talk about, make love to, swear by and cherish it with all your friends and associates globally.

Pee-wee x iPad

I just stumbled on this, five months late BUT still hilarious.

Check It ... Clearing Out the Inbox

So, after a weekend in Brooklyn and then returning and catching up with the day-to-day routine, I'm obviously a few days back on emails. The easiest way to catch up is to sort through them late at night. That's what I did late last night, early this morning. I compiled a list of some of the joints from the inbox that were cool. Check 'em out, enjoy and hit up the comment section with thoughts. Peace!

The first single from Cymarshall Law & The Beatnikz album "Freedom Express Line" is "The Flyness". The joint is pretty cool. The project drops August 31.

Charles Hamilton professed his love for "Brooklyn Girls" and now ProbCause does the same, but with a Chicago predilection for the "Windy City's" best.

ProbCause is a young Chicago emcee who has previously released two full length albums on the Indy label, Bonafyde Recordings, as well as an EP with his live band. ProbCause is now prepping his latest full-length, Spring Cleaning, which is due out this summer.

Check the new track from S-Preme, as he flows over a Kanye produced track.

This is Quake's remix to Ace of Base's Cruel Summer. The track keeps the up-beat feel that the original captured so well, but still manages to add in some hip-hop flare. The chorus remains the same with Quake adds two verses about summer-time girls, parties and all the other good things to enjoy about this time of year. This song is not on Quake's album The Myth which is still set for a release this month, however it will be on an upcoming mixtape project due out around September.
