Listen To This: @TromboneShorty & Orleans Ave

If you recall my first post three weeks ago, I said Rhythm & Blues has an underlying foundation in Jazz. Well, today I'm going to take you back to the roots of R&B. I was actually put on to this guy by someone else and I have to say that after listening I was like, "WOW!" Troy Andrews, better known as Trombone Shorty has taken the elements of New Orleans jazz and fused it with rock, hip-hop and other genres. At only 24 years old and with his talent, you'd think he was a legend. He has a new album out called Backatown and so far my favorite song I think you guys will love is "Something Beautiful" featuring Lenny Kravitz. There isn't an embed available for the Kravitz version but here's a YouTube video of Trombone Shorty performing it live with his band Orleans Ave. You can find "Something Beautiful" featuring Lenny Kravitz on his Myspace Music page (the link provided below). Enjoy!

To check out what else Trombone Shorty is up to, visit him at his website www.tromboneshorty.com and on Myspace Music.

Download ... Methuzulah - "Kemetic Aha Project"

"Kemetic Aha" Project featuring Kam Moye (formerly Supastition), Boog Brown (Mellow Music), Dinco-D (of Leaders of the New School), Punchlyne (eMC), Akil the MC (of Jurassic 5) + MANY MORE. This mixtape contains all tracks produced by DJ Premier . Methuzulah also has an indie album "Long Story Short" due to release in November 2010 and an EP with indie producer Illastrate called "Lamont & Rahlow" due out summer 2011 .

Living everyday with a "Top 5 Dead or Alive" attitude, Methuzulah formerly known as MojoSwagger has ghost written over time for platinum Hip-Hop artists, a member of "THE ZULU NATION AND TEMPLE OF HIP-HOP" and was picked by 50 Cents, Polow the Don, and Common as one of YouTube's Top 20 indie artists. Methuzulah's sound is a fusion of Kool G. Rap, Nas, and Jay Electronica. His style and sound is colorfully deep, highly descriptive. It's a street editorial/storytelling type essay on whatever the topic is at hand. On stage, Methuzulah has performed with KRS-One, B.O.B., Black Sheep, Sean Price, Raekwon, Wise Intelligent, Dilated Peoples, Skyzoo, Souls of Mischief, Casual, DJ Nabs, DJ Green Lantern, and Kool DJ Red Alert just to name a few .

Some of Methuzulah's recording collaborations have included Illastrate Productions, Raekwon (Wu-tang), Erick Sermon (Def Squad), Punchlyne, Kam Moye, Alfamega (Grand Hustle), Dynas (ABB Records), Lloyd (Def Jam), Focus (Aftermath), Dj Shakim (So So Def), Mami Montana (Aftermath), Clan Destined (Rawkus 50), Willy Evans Jr. (Rawkus 50), Mr. Probz, Bluntspeakers (Europe), Adrift Da Belle (Dungeon Family) and a lengthy list with at least 100 more artists and producers he has recorded work with.

Check It ... The Fall Guys "Sermon On Tha Mount"

I caught this joint a few days ago from one half of The Fall Guys, Emcee Starr. "Sermon on tha mount" is off the upcoming project, "Clocked In", hosted and sponsored by Royce da 5'9", dropping August 2010.  The Madison, Wisconsin based crew (Emcee Starr and producer DJ Pain1) also host the longest running Hip-Hop Mix Show in Madison, Planet Jamz on 93.1 Jamz. Based on this track, I'm definitely excited about hearing more from the crew. Check it out.

Download ... Prophetic #WOWyoustillsleepin?

There's something different about the new Prophetic project. And I like it. I've been following the Milwaukee emcee for a while now and #WOWyoustillsleepin is infused with the type of lyricism that should wake you right up. Laced with a gang of industry beats and a few original offerings (from favorites Animal House, Dylan Thomas, Adlib and others), Proph holds his own on his new "webtape." Let me know if you're still sleeping after track 18.

Check "Good Grief" (produced by Dylan Thomas) featuring Tay Butler, one of my favorite cuts.

Head over to umbrellasup.com to download #WOWyoustillsleepin.

Check It ... "Absolute Power" John Graham

This joint is pretty dope. As much as I'm against people I don't know hitting me with unsolicited music via twitter, I actually hit play on this one. I'm happy I did. This track has one hell of a message and it's dope. This doesn't mean that I've lifted my moratorium on unsolicited music via twitter but I'm happy I checked this joint out. Go ahead and enjoy.
This song is meant to serve as the Trojan horse for the "Ascension Methods" project. Please listen to every word and know that there is a jewel in every couplet! Shout out to Quincy Tones for making one of the most amazing beats I've ever had the pleasure of adding lyrics to. Also, shout out to Jay Electronica for inspiring me to create my own interpretation!

I dig Priscilla Renea. Sure, a bit bubblegum-ish but I respect the route she opted to take on her debut album "Jukebox". Anyway, check the new single "Lovesick" featuring B.o.B. and produced by Blaqsmurf. Enjoy.
