TMB's Track of the Week 4/20/10: "Believers" @Essince

This joint kind of fell in my lap. I had gone back and forth with Essince regarding how to submit music to the blog. I'm happy he asked because some people just send a bunch of nonsense. Anyway, that's another story in itself. He hit me up, I hit him back and then I decided to check out the two joints he sent. One from his last project and this joint "Believers" from his next project, "the Mind of a Hip Hop Journalist". Dude is pretty dope with an incredible story. Enjoy "Believers", the track of the week!

The Journey to Hip-Hop ... Connecticut: Criss Lyric

Connecticut is homebase for me. I'm originally from NJ and lived in DC for a minute and now I'm upstate NY but I still refer to CT as home. I'm happy that following the success of our Milwaukee installment of The Journey to Hip-Hop, we're throwing out some good Hip-Hop from Connecticut.

Anyway ...

I caught this joint from Criss Lyric in the email. He just completed his new mixtape "The Fame" after dropping his EP in March, "The Birthday EP". Connecticut has some dope Hip-Hop. Check out the video for "Below The Surface".

Download ... @BICALLDAY_ "Comin' From the Bottom"

I don't smoke but I am supporting this 4/20 release. It's the new project from Bitches is Crazy (B.I.C.), "Comin' From The Bottom". Five out of the seven joints were produced by MP (yep, our podcast DJ)! This project was released ahead of their eleven track EP, "Taking it from the Top", which will be dropping in the next few weeks.

When She Speaks, You Listen: @ladyblogga at the Diamond District/Cypress Hill show

Just when I lost my faith in Hip-Hop, Spring sprung and it has been restored. Thursday night I found myself at the Diamond District/Cypress Hill show at the legendary SOB’s. Now I remember seeing Cypress Hill at SOB’s when they first came to NYC … Damn … I just dated myself. But I had to sneak in. It was easier to sneak into venues back then.

Anyway...

Diamond District blessed the stage first. The DC trio has been all over our site from early on. They are bringing the music back to where it needs to be and I hope they keep bringin’ it. Real Hip-Hop seems to be making a comeback and we need to support it 110%. No more of this bullshit Hip Slop people call Hip-Hop. We have to stay true to the game.

Cypress Hill murdered the stage. They went from their first album to their upcoming album, titled “Rise Up” due out on April, 20. They ran through “How I Could Just Kill A Man”, “Hits From the Bong”, “Armada Latina”, “Latin Lingo”, and “I Wanna Get High” amongst other hits. Their stage show had live drums and congos played by Eric Bo-Bo, who is the son of Willie BoBo which added an extra flair to the show. I am beginning to have a real appreciation for shows with live music, Roots inspired of course. The show was crazzzyyyy!!! Let’s not even talk about the smoke filled venue. You know when Cypress Hill is in the house, so is the cannibus.

There is a Cypress Hill mixtape set to be floating around in a few days. The link will be posted here as it is a MUST HAVE on your iPOD (or music playing device). Hosted by Hot 97’s Peter Rosenberg (interview coming sooner than soon), it promises to be a banger. With original songs and covers by Asher Roth, Yelawolf, Jim Jones and a host of other artists.

Check the Cypress Hill live footage from SOB’s below.

The Journey to Hip-Hop ... Connecticut: Workforce - "Right Here"

Guess this is good a place to start with our Connecticut journey with a track by Workforce, Hawl Digg as the MC and producer Dirt E. Dutch out of Danbury, CT, titled "Right Here". Met these dudes at an event in Danbury, CT called Enter The Cipher, which I blogged about also, and enjoyed what I heard. Hawl definitely had lots of energy on stage. Seemed like he zoned out during his set feeling his music as much as the crowd was. Anyways.....check out the track and check out their sites to cop that album.

Check It ... Brother Ali, Fashawn & BK-One "Breakin' Dawn Tour" at Toad's Place

Got to check out Brother Ali with special guest Fashawn and BK-One on the turntables at Toad's Place Wednesday the 16th. As hard as it is to drag my ass to a show 45 minutes away on a weekday, it's even much more difficult knowing if I didn't go, I would miss a dope Hip-Hop show (party, according to Brother Ali) like they gave. I was hyped. So was the crowd. I'll apologize now for the lack of pictures I took. Had technical difficulties in the form of some dead, bitch ass batteries. Haha. Anyways, check out the videos.

Make sure you get their albums:

Check It ... The Rising Sun Quest & Expertiz CD Release and MC Skills Competition

On April 17th, come witness a night of everything Hip-Hop from B Boying, Beat Boxing, Graffiti, and DJing as we celebrate the release of two AFA projects. We also test the skills of a few MCs to see if they can handle all obstacles thrown at them.

CT BBoys United Outcast Crew will be in attendance.

Featured performances by Defynshn (Beat Session), The Rising Sun Quest, Expertiz, The Protege and DJ Mo Niklz on the wheels all night.

If you think you got skills or know somebody who is an all around MC, then hit me up at Risingsunquest@gmail.com to get a spot in the MC skills competition.

The skills competition will consist of freestyling, back and fourth with a partner, acapella, roll playing and beat juggling, which is where you spit over a beat with the DJ switching up the tempo. We also have some surprise challenges too.

This event is all about the music. There is no bar but feel free to bring your own drinks if you're +21.

April 17, 2010 at 8:30pm - Freight Street Gallery - 170 Freight St., Waterbury, CT.
