Benjamin - My Reflections

Here's another Connecticut native who's been doing alot of grind work behind the scenes for sometime now with his debut album title My Reflections. I've finally had time to review this album after numerous plays in the car, on the Zen and at home and the results are in. It's gonna remain in rotation. All around, this record by Benjamin is a sign of his bright future and hard work that he's been putting in. Check out two cuts off the album.

What I'm Watching...SIJI - "Yearning For Home"

After a migratory existence; living in Baltimore, Lagos, London, New York and more recently San Francisco, British born Singer, songwriter and producer, Siji has emerged bearded and now based back in New York, and in contrast to his newly acquired American permanent residency, with his most African inspired record to date.

The new album, ADESIJI, which features collaborations with noted DJ/Producer(s) King Britt and Rich Medina,is a mesmerizing "fusion of soul, jazz, highlife, gospel and traditional African folk rhythms". But, this album ventures deeper into the classical African 6/8, polyrhythmic groove. This is what defines the album and makes it stand apart.

“My self-titled sophomore album 'ADESIJI', is a full portrayal of where I currently stand as an artist and human being and the experiences that have come to shape my character. A few of the songs are about the current war, the environment, my yearning to take a closer peek at my ancestral homeland (Nigeria), where I grew up in as well as the spiritual side of my roots".

'Siji.

Check it ... Andy Suzuki and The Method "Free Hundred Pianos"

This is one of those projects I truly believe in, not only because I know Andy but because he makes great music. A while back he released 300 Pianos. Just recently he decided to drop an EP to give folks a taste of that project, Free Hundred Pianos. It's a project that you should definitely check out and if you like it, purchase the full package. Check out Andy's message below.

HEY, WHAT IS FREE HUNDRED PIANOS ANYWAYS?!
Good question, I'm glad you asked! It's 6 songs from my first full-length, independently released album, 300 Pianos. The entire 13-track album is available for purchase on iTunes, Rhapsody, CDBaby, AmazonMP3, and other stores across the internet.

I'm giving this EP away for free, so please feel free to do the same. Send this link to your friends: www.mediafire.com/freehundredpianos

The more people you can send it to the better. I am trying to gain as many fans as possible so I can live my dream...making a living playing music.

If you like Free Hundred Pianos, please email me at andy.suzuki.music@gmail.com so I can add you to email list. That way, I can let you know when I am playing a show near you!

Thanks for supporting me,
Andy Suzuki

Real Talk: Help Save DC Youth Court

Republished from Throat Chop University:
I’m going to cut through the usual sarcasm and get right to it on this one, SAVE DC YOUTH COURT! I caught this from a friend in regards to Time Dollar Youth Court in Washington, DC losing their funding and causing them to shut down at the end of this month. She’s a law school student down in DC and has worked with Time Dollar Youth Court and has heard first hand from participants how the program has impacted their lives. I called DC home for almost four years and even if I didn’t live there, I’d still be behind supporting this cause (just like Philly libraries). This is a big issue and demands our attention. We can't throw our youth into a screwed up system. They are doing good work and have the numbers to prove the work that they are doing. Programs like this need more funding, not for their funding to get cut. Please check the info below on how you can support.
The following message is forwarded at the request of UDC-DCSL students who are working to save Time Dollar Youth Court. On August 31, 2009, the Time Dollar Youth Court received formal notice that its application for funding for 2009-2010 had been DENIED. Unless further action is taken, Youth Court will be FORCED TO SHUT DOWN on October 1, 2009. The Time Dollar Youth Court is the ONLY court approved diversion program in DC that provides alternatives to detention, prosecution and residential placement/prison for juvenile offenders. The Time Dollar Youth Court operates at a cost of $511 per child. According to a recent study, taxpayers save $9,200 for each case diverted to a Youth Court; therefore, the Youth Court has already saved the District over $5 MILLION this year and almost $9 MILLION last year. (Download a fact sheet in PDF format)
WHAT YOU CAN DO:
We are asking you to contact the Mayor and your Councilmember IMMEDIATELY and tell them to save Youth Court. To contact the Mayor's Office, call 311 or (202) 727-2980. To contact your Councilmember, click here: www.dccouncil.washington.dc.us/contactuscouncil
Also, you can: Rate videos on YouTube: www.youtube.com/TimeBanksUSA
Support our cause on Facebook: Time Dollar Youth Court
Tweet us at: @saveyouthcourt
Visit the Youth Court website at: www.tdyc.org
Send an e-mail of support to Youth Court at: saveyouthcourt@tdyc.org Please take the time to show your support for this important DC program!
Thank you.
