Auto-Tune The News. Again.

Once again, The Gregory Brothers are back at it. This time, with a little help from T-Pain. It's pretty funny. Would it help the news ratings if they actually did it this way? What do you think?

Damn, can the President speak to the kids?

Some folks really over analyze the First Family in a way that's semi annoying. It is what it is, I suppose. Michelle wears shorts on vacation and Obama takes off his jacket in the Oval Office and the response is, I dare they ruin the establishment of the American President (they're black folks and they like to be comfortable, damn). But jumping on the President over wanting to address school children? Come on now!

I rarely talk about politics outside of with folks I know (and I'm not really talking about it now either) but something needed to be said about this uproar over President Obama intended speech to school children. It's being reported that next Tuesday the President will do a public address to school children, in what the White House is calling a "welcome back to school speech". Politics aside, I'd support any President with this type of speech. To me, it should have nothing to do with politics. But, some parents (mostly conservative) are demanding to know what the President will say before he says it. Really? Apparently they don't trust that his message to school children will not be a political one, and will somehow sway their children to his socialist and evil world. They also want the option to hold their children out of school while the President speaks. Really? Some school districts are also against showing the broadcast. Are these the same school districts that aren't for observing Martin Luther King's holiday either?

If you really feel this way, throat chop yourself immediately with the sharpest hand you can find (please also repeat this upwards of thirty times).

I love how a "study hard, stay in school and set goals" speech is politicized in such a way. I'm dumbfounded by the ignorance that believes that Tuesday's speech is an attempt to push propaganda and "to spread President Obama's socialist ideology." Weird, I forgot that study hard, stay in school and set goals are the staples of socialism. If you're demanding as a parent to see the President's speech prior to his Tuesday address, you need to also demand to see some of the lyrics to half of the music your kids listen to.

I went over and over with myself, what are the five things parents fear most that President Obama will say to their children in his speech on Tuesday. Here is what I came up with:

1. "Do you like healthcare? Me too. Yeah, getting sicky is never a good thing, huh? It makes you feel all yucky and you can't play your favorite video games. Well, some people want to take your healthcare from you or don't want to give it to you at all. If you don't like getting sick and you love playing video games, tell mommy and daddy to support my healthcare plan."

2. "Heil Hitler!"

3. "When you grow up, don't set goals ... smoke crack like Frankie and you can get a television show too."

4. "Tell the conservatives to stop hating on me. Can I be great?!"

5. "We all have the right to bare arms like Michelle. Every Tuesday and Thursday will be sleeveless day in America. And shorts year round."

Foolish for me to think that the President could be a viable role model for school children and deliver a message of staying in school and setting goals. Foolish for me to think that the President has the right to welcome school children back to school with what many believe will be an inspirational speech. Have you seen the drop out rates? They're staggering. Do you know how we rank in education among developed countries? This statistic is also staggering.

This is also not the first time that a sitting President has spoken to school children. President Reagan spoke to high school students in a televised speech. In '91, President George H.W. Bush spoke to students too, telling them to stay away from drugs.

This is the President of the United States. Have some respect!

Real talk, I believe that this uproar over the President addressing school kids is part politics (too much in fact) and part racism (black man speaking to my kids, uh no!) but no doubt that the whole thing is stupid. Some folks really need to rehearse (and think) some of the things they say before they say it because a lot of folks sound really ignorant right now in regards to the President speaking to school children on Tuesday. Damn, can he speak to the kids?

What are your thoughts?

Wardrobe Malfunction

RT @throatchop: #chrisbrownbowtie sang a duet w/Chris Brown's neck ... "No air"

Hey, did Chris Brown really mean to wear a ninja-chef-blouse and then a powder-blue-velvet-suede-bow tie? Who is his stylist? No one could whisper into his ear and say "nah, homie, it's not a good look?" Both instances with these Chris Brown's wardrobe malfunction, the internet went crazy immediately clowning the dude. Can his wardrobe just be great? Short answer, NO! (long answer, no). Funny however that his wardrobe has said way more than he did in his youtube video or Larry King interview ... "No comment."

TELL 'EM WHY YOU MAD: That Damn 50/50

So @ThroatChopU was on Twitter and he threw up a statistic – “50% of marriages end in divorce.” YIKES!!!! Is it just me or is that disturbing? Or should it be expected in this day and age?

Marriage used to be a traditional ritual that people took seriously. People actually married for “Love and Happiness” *Al Green voice*. Most ceremonies took place in a church before God and the vows were sacred and held meaning. Nowadays, you can get married almost anywhere. People get married for all the wrong reasons, which support the 50/50 rule. People get married for wealth, citizenship, health insurance, pregnancy … I mean no wonder the divorce rate is so high. And we’re in a recession so the divorce rate could be higher. People are choosing to stay together because they can’t afford to separate from their spouse. They would rather stay together to avoid having to pay for a divorce, lose their house or fortune (if there is one). How sad is that?

Look at Nas and Kelis. Kelis done lost her mind asking Nas for all that money. I know he is kicking himself everyday reciting “It’s cheaper to keep her”… He should have listened to Kanye when he said “We want Pre-nups! We want Pre-nups! Yeaaaahhhhh!”

I think the roles of husband and wife needs to be revisited before anyone gets married to anybody. I think a lot of the problem lies with people not knowing their roles. People don’t realize that communication, respect, fairness and honesty are important components. The smallest situations could violate those major things and cause all kinds of unnecessary problems. It is not about one person anymore. It is about you and your partner. And if you can’t think in those terms, then you aren’t ready for this kind of commitment. You might as well pack yo’ –ish.

Marriage is not about the ceremony, reception and the dress. It is about the relationship and the love that the two people involved share. Like everything else, marriage has become a commercial event. There are countless wedding reality shows that show just how shallow some relationships really are. Take “Bridezillas” for instance. Some of those chicks need to be throat-chopped into reality. Looking at some of them, they should be grateful that someone even wants to take the time. I have yet to see a woman on that show that is just in love with her husband, doesn’t treat him like crap and is just happy to be preparing to spend her life with the guy.

At the end of the day, if you plan on getting married, make sure you know what you are getting yourself into. This shouldn’t be something you do once a year. If it is done correctly, then you won’t need a do-over.

Check It ... House of M “The Alternate Reality of …”

Around the time that this blog was reborn earlier this year, we seemed to find Milwaukee's (and Wisconsin in general) hip-hop scene. I can’t recall how we stumbled upon it but we haven’t looked back since. I’ve never been to Wisconsin nor did I know people there before but I’m happy to have found some of the hip-hop cooking up in the area.

As one of my favorite female Milwaukee emcee, Melissa Czarnik, said to me recently, “we are most definitely brewing something other than beer here in Milwaukee right now.”

It’s such a true statement. They are brewing up some great hip-hop. The House of M is one of those examples.

The homie Dana Coppa hit me up a few weeks back with the early release of this House of M project. It sat on the desktop for a few days but once I got the chance to listen to it, the joint impressed me immediately. House of M The Alternate Reality of … is true hip-hop! The crew straight out of Wisconsin is made up of producers D’Matikk, Trellmatic, Dylan Thomas and Lou-Tang; emcees Gambit, Ecko, A.P.R.I.M.E. and Dana Coppa; emcee and producer Raze and DJ DeadBeat. Together the crew creates a powerful sound, rich with classic hip-hop influences and a style of their own.

Their tracks are dope! Production is tight! The flow is great! The interludes are amazing! Every track is great as a solid standalone but come together nicely to tell a story of the “Mutants” that form the House of M.

What really impressed me, outside of their flow and story telling technique in tracks like Superhero Shorties, The Initiative, Superman Ain’t My Name and In Your Mind – were their interludes. Their interludes, which are thought out and well executed, poke fun at the word swag (so many variations) and some of the mainstream radio trash (including shots at auto-tune). Very few albums include interludes anymore and to me, they’re important and help make a project well rounded and complete.

The House of M delivers a complete package of well-delivered hip-hop. I strongly suggest you check out House of M The Alternate Reality of …
