Music Monday (After the Fact) - Wale

I was initially going to post Wale up yesterday as our Music Monday feature but got a little caught up in some other things. So, I'm posting it today and calling it the Music Monday joint (just pretend it's Monday again in your mind). Really, it doesn't matter because every day on the blog is like Music Monday in some regard, because we're always pushing music.

While traveling most of Sunday I found myself finally listening to Wale's Back to the Feature. It's dope. Dude doesn't have to give out free music and he did and it's quality. I picked Hot Shyt to share and threw Sweatin Out Weaves in as kind of a bonus. There are a lot of joints on this mixtape, but I just wanted to throw these two out. Enjoy and happy Monday (or Tuesday)

What I Downloaded For Free... Technology by ¡MAYDAY!

I gotta thank MySpace for the music I find on there. I've seen this group perform at Toad's Place once before and that's all it took. I became a fan. This group puts out good music and this time it's no different. Except the sound. Less hip hop, still great. They're giving away this album for free. Check it out!

"Brooklyn we go hard..." Black Thought at Brooklyn Hip Hop Festival

I've seen The Roots perform almost a dozen times! The band is crazy and Black Thought really goes in! On Saturday, it was just Black Thought who hit the stage with a surprise visit at the main event for the Fifth Annual Brooklyn Hip Hop Festival. Thought ripped it for almost 8 minutes! Both O and I are big fans of Black Thought and definitely enjoyed his performance! We'll be posting more from the Hip Hop Festival over the next day or so. So many great emcees performed! While it rained on and off on Saturday, it was great to be at the show enjoying some GREAT hip hop!

Peace to ReachNYC.com for posting the video on YouTube.

What I'm Listening to Right Now ... "Crashing Down"

I was on the road most of the day doing the voyage from downstate NY to upstate. I had to listen to this song more than 30 times. During a stop over in Albany, I pulled out the laptop and jumped on the Internet to post it. It had to be shared. We often talk about being in pursuit of realness on the blog ... this Crashing Down track is an example of pure REALNESS! Check out the joint from Marco Polo and Torae! I want you to listen very closely to the lyrics on this track. As a matter of fact, after you're done checking out this joint purchase Double Barrel immediately. Support real hip-hop!

What I'm Listening to ... Ryan Leslie - "Something That I Like featuring Pusha T"

What tha Lady Blogga is Listening to ...

Being a resident of the 6th Borough (Far Rockaway, NY), I take pride in the artists that come from this concrete jungle and make it big. With the anniversary of the death of a personal friend and artist, Stack Bundles on 6/11, I thought it only appropriate to let you guys in on The 6th Borough’s next big thing.

@GSwagger is a multi-talented artist out of Far Rockaway. He was busy this weekend shooting the video for his next single “Lifestyle”. He is the C.E.O. of Fam Click Entertainment, a member of RockStar Society and a model for their clothing line. When he is not bustin’ down the stage at a show, he is doing internet radio shows or in the studio makin’ it happen. He was just in the studio last week on a collabo with @jasminesolano, a female rapper/DJ out of Brooklyn.

While we are inundated with “Swagger” on tracks, this artist definitely has what it takes to don the name, G Swagg. Growing up in the 40’s Housing Projects, he was faced with a lot of life’s harsh realities which gave him a foundation for writing. He is lyrically versatile and can put it on a track with no problem. His songs are featured on two mixtapes “Fly or Die” and “The Groundwork” with a third on deck, due out this summer.

Swagg has a large fan base in the States and Overseas. His songs are spun deep in the clubs of NYC and played on a lot of different internet radio shows including thebestjams.com, StreetMuzik.fm and thatsgoodradio.com. At shows, it is guaranteed that once he steps on the stage, the energy in the venue is crazy. In this day and age where we are constantly questioning the state of hip-hop, it is good to hear music sans the usual candy-ass lyrics. He is always on his grind and always aims to please his fans. He recently did an interview for a radio show on StreetMuzik.fm and during a freestyle session, he showed his range proficiently. I was definitely impressed. As soon as I get the link to the audio, I will share. Until then, take a listen…

What I'm Listening To...Diamond District - In The Ruff

I've had this album on repeat and actually still do. I really do hope you so called music lovers, especially hip hop lovers got this in your system. Every time I hear Oddisee's music more and more, I admire and get addicted more and more. That's definitely my kind of music. In this album, he's recruited X.O. and Y.U. to hold the fort down as well. I can't get sick of the album. It's so ill. So I decided to post two of my favorite tracks on here just in case some of you who don't have the album DIAMOND DISTRICT - IN THE RUFF, you can hear for yourself what you might be missing. Check it out.

Drake @ Toad's Place in New Haven, CT

Just wanted to hit you up with some pictures and videos from his performance at Toad's Place in New Haven, CT a little while back. Place was packed to the walls, granted with youngn's but what can you do. Amazing for a dude with a mixtape album. Sold the spot out. Fits about 800 people. He did his thing. Nothing I was in awe about. In my opinion, he's less of a performer than an artist. Either way, check it out....

(I apologize for the sound.)

@OCSupreme Presents...The Lights Off LP

Ok, so I've been trying to get this project I've assigned to myself done for months now. It's basically just putting together about 3 cds full of official slow jams. Music that you can get your grown man or woman on. Finally got the 1st of 3 done and if I say so myself, it's pretty dope. I don't think I can skip one single track. But this is subjective, so in my opinion it's a great mix cd. I was able to fit 19 songs on there. What CDs you know come out now with that many? Who knows?! Either way, here it is and I hope you enjoy. Only reason I'm posting it is because Q asked me too so I suggest you thank him. Check it out and stay tuned for Vol. 2 and 3.

Here's the tracklist:

1. Public Announcement - All Work, No Play
2. H-Town - Full Time
3. Jon B. - Inside
4. Robin Thicke - Teach U A Lesson
5. Alicia Keys - Feeling U, Feeling Me
6. Jamie Foxx - Weekend Lover
7. D'Angelo - Untitled (How Does It Feel)
8. Jodeci - U & I
9. Raheem DeVaughn - Ask Yourself
10. Marques Houston - Always & Forever
11. R. Kelly - It Seems Like You're Ready
12. Jaheim - Ghetto Love
13. Dwele - Weekend Lover
14. Drake - Bria's Interlude (feat. Omarion)
15. Brian McKnight - Your Love is Ooh
16. Donell Jones - Natural Thang
17. 112 - Sexy You
18. Tank - My Body
19. Usher - Can U Handle It?
