Download: Otis Clapp - "#ATB"
The sophomore LP from Otis Clapp is here and with features like YC The Cynic, KON, Kyle Rapps, KEPSTAR, and Warren Britt, you already know what you're getting into soon as that play button gets pushed. Otis is that "I don't give a fuck" dude and you can tell soon as you go through some of these tracks. That's some respectable shit.
#Summer. #Wanda ft Warren Britt, #Adel ft Kepstar, and #Loretta are some of my easy favorites. The beauty of this album, besides that this 18 track project is free, is that he gives you so many different styles of dopeness to listen to. Depending on your mood, this album got the right track for you. For real. But enough of reading, get to listening!
Oh and "Uhhh, ya mom's vagina."

YC The Cynic "Hey Love"
I peeped the artwork and thought we were gonna have ourselves a NSFW situation. Ha! Instead we get a smooth grove produced by Steel Tipped Dove with the ill guitar solo by Gabriel Duran. Rumor has it, YC finished this joint yesterday and had it delivered to Hot 97 via courier like Jay did with Super Ugly. But that's just a rumor. Either way, I dig it. Enjoy the music. Chea!

Interview: Miss Special x YC The Cynic & Yuri Beats
While in Brooklyn two weeks ago, OC Supreme and I caught up with Miss Special, meeting our West Coast ally for the first time. She's just as cool in person. Having moved out East for an internship, she hasn't slowed down one bit. Peep her latest interview with YC The Cynic and Yuri Beats. Chea!
Miss Special caught up with YC The Cynic and Yuri Beats at the release party for their project “Good Morning, Midnight”.(via @MiSS1SPECiAL)
The two gave hilariously different versions of how they met and decided to work together. "I was walking the desert and the moment I thought there was no human life form I came across Yuri Beats and it was the most amazing experience ever because he had water and I was like wow, we should make music" says YC The Cynic. Yuri Beats followed up by telling a slightly different version about how he saw YC The Cynic perform at South Paw, to which YC The Cynic responds "the stories have to match bro".
The two remarked on a comment made that their project was "like Drake, Kanye and The Pharcyde had a baby. Then YC raised it and released an album."
The two also spoke about their upcoming plans including Yuri Beats working on Nitty Scott MC's "Boombox Diaries Volume 1", as well as, Max Burgundy and eXquire and YC The Cynic's debut album "GNK".

NEW RELEASE: YC the Cynic "Good Morning Midnight"
Music is always about growth. It's about getting better. Or at least it should be. As YC the Cynic takes breaks in between projects, it seems like he really is focused on improving his sound as an emcee. His new project Good Morning Midnight finds him with "no expectations, borders or limits", while Yuri Beats works the boards. YC says it's about making the most honest music possible. Good Morning Midnight is very honest, which includes the personal Rude Boy Jamaican cut. Presented by 2DopeBoyz and Rot10 Musik, enjoy Good Morning Midnight. Chea!

Kalae All Day "Datura-Stramonium" feat YC the Cynic
Almost a year ago I heard and posted this cut from Harlem's Kalae All Day and YC The Cynic from the Bronx. It showed up in my inbox again today. The duo work with the MF Doom instrumental and make it their own in the fresh track Datura-Stramonium. Now being re-released ahead of the November 22nd drop of her new project Pass Time & Crass Lines. I thought the track was solid a year ago; I still think so. Hit play and enjoy. Chea!

YC The Cynic "Hello, Newman!"
It seems like a few of my favorite artist took the summer to do shows and push previous projects and are returning with the change of season full force delivering up new music. YC The Cynic is one of those artist. With a string of show dates since South By Southwest and a few features, YC is back with new music ahead of his GNK project. YC is a lyricist and so "Hello, Newman" is a lyrical onslaught. And it's dope. Hit play and enjoy. Chea!

Audible Doctor "Stayin' Busy Remix" Feat. Silent Knight, KON, Rasheed Chappell, YC The Cynic, & Soul Khan
"Writing til I got the right of way, right away..."
When you hear a posse cut like this with such incredible production you want more people to hear it. You've got to share it. Lyrically this track seems unfair considering the emcees assembled for the "Stayin' Busy Remix" off of The Audible Doctor's upcoming You Should Buy Music Not Make It EP. At just over 3 minutes, there are so many damn quotables on this joint, you'll find yourself rewinding over and over again. I'm on my 8th listen (probably 9th by the end of writing this post). The cut serves as a bonus joint and will be available on the CD version of the project, as well as the free download card that comes along with a "You Should Buy Music Not Make It" tee. Right now you can rock to this joint, again and again. Enjoy. Chea!

YC The Cynic "The Harder"
YC THE CYNIC / THE HARDER IT IS / SOUTHPAW from Giovanni P Autran on Vimeo.
Time and time again, you've heard me praise YC The Cynic's recent project Fall Fwd. Perhaps among my top three favorite cuts is The Harder, which also happens to be the shortest jawn on the project. Back in March at his album release, Giovanni P Autran caught a live performance of the track. To steal a line from the homie Khal over at rockthedub, "YC #noracks will be at The Compound on Thursday" Yes, tonight muddasuckas. Performing live with Fresh Daily, Neak and others, the line-up looks dope. Support good music.

@YCtheCynic Grows With Fall Fwd
I had the intro planned out. I was gonna explain Fall Fwd. Then everything changed. As of right now, the only thing I can think of to say to you is Fall Fwd is the truth. Ha!
Honestly, I could start and end this post with YC The Cynic’s Fall Fwd (released March 1st) is one of my favorite underground projects released this year, and you should immediately download it.
But I’ll expand on that.
First, let me take you back. I remember listening to YC the first time over a year ago. I had received emails from his camp leading up to the release of his last project, You’re Welcome. I thought the kid was cool. I thought You’re Welcome was fresh. I remember meeting YC last summer in Brooklyn at the Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival and he just came-off as a guy who was trying to make quality music that folks would enjoy. On this simple mission, YC delivers.
And on Fall Fwd, he delivers more.
It’s Fall Fwd that ultimately tells the story of an emcee who has grown. Like I said, You’re Welcome was cool but Fall Fwd is great (who knows what the The Spectacle, YC’s next project, will bring). Fall Fwd is lyrically and from a production standpoint a win for YC and ultimately his listeners.
Often a project will hit and it’s cool for a limited amount of time. Which is usually that first or second play. Let’s be honest, a 1000 + songs are released every second, every day. 1000 + new projects hit the Internet daily. Repeatability is what you’re ultimately trying to achieve when you release music. Having had Fall Fwd for weeks prior to the release, it’s still being played.
You can’t help but go back to tracks like Mr. Brown, The Clever, More and More, Hey There Young Man, Suicide, The Harder and the title track Fall Fwd, among others. With features from Soul Khan, Homeboy Sandman, Von Pea, C-Rayz Walz, Sene and others; plus production from J57, OTiS CLaPP, 2 Hungry Bros and more, you’d assume that YC would get lost in the mix. Wrong (Charlie Murphy voice). YC makes sure you know that Fall Fwd is his vision and he owns every track he’s on. The production and features just help YC paint incredible pictures lyrically on every track.
I could say more but now it’s time for you to listen to Fall Fwd and determine how you feel about the project.
His name is YC The Cynic, and he’s an emcee and apparently he strokes beats ever so gently. Ha! Enjoy Fall Fwd. Chea!
You can download for free or purchase via bandcamp. You make the choice.
