Willie Green - "A Suite For Souled People"

The recent events in Ferguson, Missouri (as well as Staten Island, Beavercreek, Ohio, and Los Angeles) have lifted a veil of comfortable ignorance across this country. The murder of Michael Brown, resultant cover up and egregious treatment of protesters has shown that the perception of Black people in America has changed little since the Civil Rights movement of the 1960’s. Americans live in a country where the oppressed are dehumanized and told to be quiet and gracious about their anger; and where the oppressors are harbored by our government and rewarded by our peers. Where the media warps facts to prove agendas against citizens and digital voices rush to play devil’s advocate to conceal their own bias. These are terrifying statements and not exaggerations. I’m no revolutionary. But I am someone who wants to look his children in the eyes and say when his country showed its worst, he did something.

Willie Green Esq.'s We Live In The Future (Album Release Party)

Willie Green returned home during his "Open Affairs Tour" to throw a release party for his new album "We Live In The Future". And he brought a few guests as well to help him celebrate the Fake Four Bistro released project. With performances by Warren S. Britt (Brooklyn), B. Durazzo (Oakland), Relic (Toronto), Dan Dillinger (Brooklyn), PremRock (NY), Fresh Kils and Mad Dukes (Toronto/Buffalo), and the man of the hour, Mr. William Green Esq., the night was a musically dope filled kind of night that I'm glad I attended at Spike Hill.

From getting to watch and hear one of the most energetic artists I've ever seen perform in Warren S. Britt, who was a last minute replacement for Emergency Service, to watching the skills of B. Durazzo work magic with dual MPCs, to Fresh Kils, Mad Dukes, and Relic rep Toronto respectively, there was more than enough evidence of talent in the room that night.

About half way through the night, we were blessed with the guest of honor Willie Green as he jumped on his Akai Ableton and played some new joints off his release live. Button after button he pushed recreating the music off "We Live In The Future" and the crowd reacted with as expected. Heads nodding, arms waving, and a few yells and whistling. All signs pointing to a successful night indeed.

As the event continued, we also got to see performances by hard working talents in PremRock, Corina Corina, Angi3, Illustrate, Loki The Trickster, Dan Dillinger, M.O.C.S., Reno Bang, with the latter three putting their own twists on a Macklemore track called "Can't Hold Us". All in all it was a very dope night that I don't regret participating in. Even with the drive. It was worth it!

Check the photos out after the jump, and don't forget to support Mr. Green Esq. too!

PremRock & Willie Green "Diary of a Dreamer" (Man Mantis Remix)

Diary of a Dreamer was one of the stand out tracks on PremRock & Willie Green's self titled release. Then it got the remix treatment courtesy of the Midwest beat man Man Mantis, and they took an already dope track and gave it another push. From their Reassembled project of remixed cuts, this joint continues to be a go to track. Hit play and enjoy. Chea!

Willie Green "WINTER (Movement 4)"

Capping off an extremely busy year with the final installation of my Four Seasons beat tape series. As with the previous three editions, Winter (Movement 4) is inspired by the changing in seasons - this time around with the colder, darker sound of the later months. -Willie Green

Sketch Tha Cataclysm - "Kidney Stones" (Prod. Willie Green)

This latest is off Sketch's recent release and it's one of my favorite cuts off the album. Willie Green does a dope job on the production side of this track and Sketch fluidly compliments this joint. Had my head noddin' for sure. Check it.

Following a string of EPs released over the past two years, Connecticut native Sketch Tha Cataclysm presents his second full length album, Indie Rappers Do It For Gas Money (Vol. 2). The album is described as a love letter/hate mail to the listener, regarding the life of an independent MC. It covers the peaks and valleys of Sketch's current personal life-style as a live performance specialist. The 13 album tracks give you insight into the heart and soul of the artist as artist, the audiences encountered, and relationship's gained or broken, and features production from Defnyshn, Willie Green, Dirt E. Dutch, True Scribe, and Sketch himself. The project also features appearances by Sketch's long time affiliates, Rising Sun Quest, Roc Doogie and Expertiz along with MEGABUSIVE, Big Jess of Unknown Prophets, Aeon Grey, Teddy Faley, PremRock, and more!

NEW ALBUM: PremRock & Willie Green

Last week was a strong week for full length Hip-Hop projects. A lot of mainstream and indie folks used the last week of September to flex their musical strengths. While at the top of the pile, from a mainstream perspective, was J. Cole, there were strong projects from 9th Wonder, Phonte, J-Live and more.

Last week also saw the release of PremRock (emcee) and Willie Green's (producer) self titled album released by Isolated Wax Records. The New York based duo put together a strong cohesive project, with hard hitting production and dope rhymes. I've said before and I'll say again, the one emcee / one producer projects are my favorites and create such a fluency that is sometimes missed when too many producers are involved on a project. There is a musical chemistry between PremRock and Willie Green, in part because they are friends with a common vision who create a sound that is so in-sync.

I enjoyed their new project with features from C-Rayz Walz, Soul Khan, Has-Lo and Open Mike Eagle, with cuts from Baltimore's DJ Addikt. It's quality from beginning to end.

Support fresh Hip-Hop. Album available on Amazon and via iTunes. Chea!

PremRock & Willie Green "Had to Be Me" feat. C-Rayz Walz, Soul Khan & DJ Addikt

I'm a fan of the one emcee/one producer projects. There is often a cohesiveness created when this formula is applied. And so, PremRock and Willie Green give the formula a go and create magic with their upcoming self-titled album. The latest single off the project is just another look at the chemistry created by the duo on a cut featuring C-Rayz Walz and Soul Khan, with cuts by DJ Addikt,. Look out for their album due to drop September 28th via Isolated Wax Records. It's solid. Chea!

Willie Green "Summer (Movement 2)"

I was harassing the homie a few days ago about the project and then totally forgot to share it with you. Why? Because I was too busy enjoying it myself. Ha! Here's the latest from beat maker Willie Green. You're welcome.
Summer (Movement 2) is the second segment of Willie Green’s Four Seasons beat tape series. Picking up right where Spring left off, Summer (Movement 2) is a collection of beats inspired by the warmer months and is perfect for your barbecues, roadtrips, or whatever you like to do in the heat. Available as a “Pay What You Want” (even nothing!) download at www.WillieGreenMusic.com.

"Please Do" - Humpasaur Jones vs. Willie Green

I dig the homie Hump Jones sound. And couple that with the killer production of Willie Green and this track is a clear winner. As if that's not enough, then you throw in the fact that this joint is a posse cut featuring Pro from The Aztext, Mohrer Les and Zilla Rocca and you're in grand slam territory. I definitely dig this track. The folks over at World Around Records do a great job putting out quality music and this Humpasaur Jones vs. Willie Green track is a clear example. Hit play. Enjoy. Chea!

What I'm Watching ... Premonition "the writer's block"

I like Premonition. I enjoyed his debut album the build, which dropped last year. Prem hit me up with the visuals to his Willie Green produced single "the writer's block" featuring DJ addikt. I dig it. The video was directed Crosby and edited by Mike Leuis. Definitely a cool laid back track, with the right type of video to match. Check it out and enjoy. Chea!

Download ... Willie Green "Red & Green"

A little holiday music from the homie Willie Green. Enjoy.
Just in time for the holiday I wanted to drop a little something. As a broke college student, I would often give my family Christmas albums I recorded in my dorm rooms.  My budget is a little better now, but the concept is the same.  Red & Green is a 6-track, 17 minute beat tape with the samples coming only from various Christmas albums.

Enjoy and Happy Holidays,
Green
