NEW RELEASE: Theo Martins "Wonderland"
I've been a fan of Theo Martins since 2010 when he released his EP You Can't Do That On Television. After that EP, I've featured his tunes on the site a gang of times but its been a while. Then a few weeks back he dropped me an email asking if I'd like to take part in an online listening session for his new project. I didn't hesitate to accept the invitation. And there I found myself lost in Wonderland, the debut project from the Cali based by way of Rhode Island emcee. Filled with incredible musicality, Theo calls this the story of a boy in pursuit of the bigger things in life and the things he loses through his journey. Indeed it is. I dig it. Enjoy the music. Chea!

Theo Martins "Mario Kart"
One of my favorite emcees Theo Martins is back with a fresh cut, Mario Kart. Another winner from the Rhode Island emcee. Enjoy.
So dusk off the ol’ N64 (second greatest game console after SNES), blow into that cartridge, plug in those colorful controllers and prepare to kick back and relax and jam.
Oh, I got dibs on Mario!

Theo Martins "I Can't Stop (Puffy Time)"
Theo Martins is a dope fella. I'm currently working on a feature on him over at Refined Hype (look out for that in a few days) in my Return of The Real column. Today he hit me on twitter with a new cut, "I Can't Stop (Puffy Time)." I dig it. Between the fresh artwork and the dope track, I Can't Stop is a winner. Enjoy. Chea!
Just bought a bike (a Schwinn, can you believe it?) and I’m going to take it for a spin. The weather outside is beautiful.
Anyhow, in preparation for my Asia tour next week inspired me to put out one of my recent favorite records titled, Puffy Time produced by Dubstep phenom Flux Pavilion. Like Turn It Up this song explores my taste on heavy Dubstep production.
Also, the swanky new video for Take You There off my latest project, Sincerely Yours, The Dance Floor directed by Rex Arrow Films will be out very soon.

What I'm Watching: Theo Martins "Up & Away"
Every time I post something from Theo Martins, I say he's dope. So, at this point, I guess it goes without saying how I feel about Theo's music. Ha! After a few pics providing a sneak peek at this video, Theo released the visuals for "Up & Away" yesterday. Enjoy the latest off of Theo Martins Sincerely Yours, The Dance Floor. Chea!

Theo Martins "The Spotlight"
With my new blogging schedule, I rarely post on the weekends. But I couldn't let the weekend go by without posting this track from Providence, Rhode Island rapper Theo Martins. Theo has found himself on the blog a few times and two weeks ago he took the Friday's Five Random Questions challenge. I've said it time and time again, I think Theo is dope and his sound is unique. "The Spotlight" is what he calls "black-super hero music" and I tend to agree. In my mind, I already see the visuals for this track. If only I was a director. Ha! Well, happy Saturday morning to you and enjoy some music courtesy of Mr. Theo Martins. Chea!
"Driving through Beverly Hills around midnight in a red coup, no streets lamps, everything dark but the front dash on the car doing just about 85 on the highway. That’s what I see when I close my eyes and play this.
‘The Spotlight’ was inspired by Grammy Weekends, 2nd-hand cigar smoke, dark nights and lazy mornings.
This is such black-super hero music."

Friday's Five Random Questions with @TheoMartins
"He can't be a rapper wearing boat shoes ..."
We all know I rock boat shoes, so with that one line Theo Martins instantly became a favorite. Ha!
I caught Theo just around the time he was putting out You Can't Do That on Television. I hit play on that project, which starts with "The Letter" and immediately thought the dude was dope. His latest project Sincerely Yours, The Dance Floor takes you into a slightly different direction. Some folks would be scared to test the waters musically but for Theo he doesn't let a genre define his style and with that his latest is making waves musically.
With two fresh videos for his recent project, Theo has a style that is outside the box. In today's music of so many cookie-cutter-rappers-so-called-emcees, Theo Martins is a breath of fresh air.
Anyway, this week he decided to take the challenge. Check out how Theo answered five random questions after the jump.
Check It: @MaraHruby Has Soul
Mara Hruby has soul. Her music is absolutely stunning. I discovered her sound based on one simple retweet from @JCrillz last night.
I respect his taste in music so I gave it a click. This is one of those examples of how twitter comes in handy musically. Honestly, I think at least once per day you should click a link to some music you're unfamiliar with to discover new things. I don't mean those annoying @ replies folks send you to check out their "hot new banger" or whatever. I'm talking about folks you follow. Many are amazing music resources. In a time where marketing budgets don't really exist, word of mouth is ultimately how you'll discover raw talent and great new music.
Street Etiquette-Sartorial Sounds from LightUp Film on Vimeo.
So, when I saw Mara Hruby name retweeted from a familiar source I decided to give it a listen. That led me to the video above on her tumblr page. The video is a behind the scenes look at Street Etiquette-Sartorial Sounds. The amazing track includes spoken word, tap, rap and singing. It's an amazing production featuring Jesse Boykins III, Mara Hruby, Joekenneth Museau, Joshua Bennett, Theo Martins, Melo – X and Rinaldy Alvarez.
The video led me to track down the actual track. Amazing.
Sartorial Sounds Editorial
“Sartorial Sounds integrates both music and style, two elements embedded in every culture past and present. We think it’s important to remember that everyone is an artist in their own right. And it’s the life experiences we encounter that provoke what we splash on our own blank canvas. We assembled seven individuals to partake in this editorial. The finished product incorporates their individual talents such as spoken word, rapping, singing and tap.”
This ultimately had me circle back to her project, From Her Eyes. Mara has an amazingly beautiful voice with so much soul for a person only in her early 20's. Her sound is melodic. I'm sure I'm not the only person discovering the Oakland songstress at this point in the game, so don't be shy and hit play on From Her Eyes. Mara Hruby has soul.

Theo Martins “Turn It Up” feat. Plan-B
Sometimes intros are too much. And sometimes they are just right. Theo Martins lets Plan-B ride out on “Turn It Up” until the 1:55 mark and then he just tears into his verse. Dope. This track is off Theo's recent Sincerely Yours, The Dance Floor project.
Theo writes on his tumblr about the video:
Because it’s the first song on Sincerely Yours, The Dance Floor, the ‘Turn It Up’ video is basically about me being at a crossroads. We used imagery of me sitting in the middle of railroad tracks, and again in the middle of a street, to represent that. It’s like I can either run from being at the crossroads aimlessly without a plan, or I can just sit there, brace the impact of what’s to come and deal with it. In the end, with dignity, I opt to stay the course. I can say this much, I’m so far pleased with the results of that decision. The track is dope. Theo Martins is dope. Plus he's down with #TeamTopsiders. Ha! Enjoy the vid!
The video is directed by my go-to team of auteurs Albert Huerta and CPA. They also manned the lens for “Final Fantasy” and “Power”.
Enjoy & thank you.

Download ... Theo Martins "Sincerely Yours, The Dance Floor"
The You Can't Do That On Television EP released last April was my first introduction to Rhode Island emcee Theo Martins. I thought the dude was dope from the second I hit play on that project. I've been following him ever since. There have been a few tracks between that release and his latest, Sincerely Yours, the Dance Floor, which dropped today.
With his latest project, it's safe to say that Theo doesn't believe in being safe through his music. He steps out boldly. What Sincerely Yours, the Dance Floor ultimately proves is that you can't put Theo's sound in a box nor one specific genre. With it's elements of hip-hop, pop, electro and more, Theo delivers a very fresh and original product with Sincerely Yours, the Dance Floor. I enjoyed it.
In an age of many cookie-cutter music folks, Theo's sound is refreshing. Sincerely Yours, the Dance Floor is dope. Enjoy. Chea!
Check out one of my favorite cuts, "White Friends." If you dig it, head over to DJBooth and download it.

Check It ... @TheoMartins "20 Thousand Leagues | The Feather"
Theo Martins is a cool dude. His music is dope. Check the new track!
The year is 1931. Persistent rumors of a tentacled sea monster attacking ships in the Pacific Ocean have created fear amongst sailors, disrupting the shipping lanes and slowing trade. Captain Theo Martins and his assistant board their vessel and make their way to the deep blue sea to find out what is really going on.
After months scouring the vast ocean, the monster strikes, ramming the naval frigate. The ship’s hull is destroyed and Captain Theo is thrown overboard. He drifts in the ocean, eventually finding a strange-looking metal vessel, and realizes the “monster” is a man-made “submerging boat,” that has been deserted.
Blown far off course, Theo enters uncharted territory. In this new land there’s a great cave, and inside it lies “The Feather,” a treasure guarded by a great nest of giant squid for the last two centuries. If used improperly “The Feather” could harm millions.
As he nears the cave, a squid attacks, and he’s caught in its tentacles. Ned, having escaped from captivity in the struggle, jumps to Theo’s rescue and saves his captor’s life. Theo takes hold of “The Feather” and intends to share his gem of the sea with the world.

Downloads ... Theo Martins "You Can't Do That on Television"
I caught this joint in the email. I've definitely been checking out more joints that have come in recently and while I've been disappointed with a few projects, I was not disappointed by this joint from Theo Martins. The dude doesn't bombard you with 15 tracks, he just gives you six tracks plus a bonus on "You Can't Do That on Television", which leaves you anticipating his next project. I dig it!
Theo Martins, the Rhode Island native who released his Channel Surfin’ mixtape just last month, has hooked up with DJBooth.net to present his latest street release, You Can’t Do That On Television. Inspired by the Canadian sketch comedy show (and, later, Nickelodeon staple) of the same name, the seven-track set sees Theo and producer $port blending elements of early-‘90s hip-hop with more futuristic musical influences. Included on the project are previously-featured, Booth-approved cuts “Kirby’s Airwalk” and (as a bonus track) “Goodwill Hunting (RZA ‘94 Dreams).”Check out "Kirby's Airwalk" off the project and if you're so inclined, go ahead and download the full joint if you like.
