Sound Session w/J.Moore and DJ Hyphen (Co-hosted by Maseo of De La Soul)

It's been a little while since I posted up a link to our Seattle homie DJ Hyphen's weekly show. Enjoy this week's episode. Chea!
Just another weekend here at SNSS…you know: Halloween night, having Maseo from the legendary De La Soul co-host with us, playing crazy dope records, etc..  The usual really.

But in all seriousness, this was a really fun episode for us.  Maseo and J. Moore go way back, so it was great to have him come through and talk ish while we spun joints from folks like Lupe, Nottz, Kid Cudi, Aloe Blacc, Mayer Hawthorne, J-Live, Kanye, and more.  We got the low down on the incredible Gorillaz/N.E.R.D./De La Soul/Little Dragon tour that’s shutting down stadiums all over the country, plus heard an update on De La’s next album.  All sorts of fun.  Tune in and enjoy!  RIP Granma Hyphen and Gregory Isaacs too…

J. Cole x Sound Session x Ustream

Shoutout to DJ Hyphen for sending over this footage from an informal ustream interview with J. Cole while he was out in Seattle. I liked the down to earth feel of this interview. Enjoy.
The homey J. Cole was in town over the weekend for our Bumbershoot Festival and he came through the Sound Session studio to kick it with us.  We recorded a normal interview, which we’ll air soon and also post here, but in the interim, you can peep the archive of the live UStream web chat that we did with almost a thousand listeners logged in to the room.

Cole ran through some random questions from his fans in the chat and I tossed him some that people were tweeting us at the same time.  He talked about everything from his album, his upcoming mixtape, his touring, his favorite athletes, and much more.  If you’re looking for a more formal interview, peep our sit down with Cole the last time here was in town right here.  We’ll also have a new interview shortly…

Big shout to Cole, his crew, and the label homies…all some of my favorite folks to chop it up with.  Continued success…Roc Nation in the building.

Shad Interview on Sunday Night Sound Session (via @DJHyphen)

"Maybe I'm not big cause I don't blog or twitter..."

I'm not sure how I got put on to Shad's music. It might have been DJ Hyphen that put me on to him or someone else. I really don't recall. I do know I haven't looked back since. Shad is a dope dude. He's definitely one of my favorite emcees! His new album dropped today "TSOL" in Canada. I had to reach out to my Canadian connect to get it. Anyway, the homie DJ Hyphen caught up to Shad Sunday night for this interview. I don't post interviews too often but I felt the need to post this one. Check it!
via @DJHyphen
"Shad is one of my favorite MC's and since his new album, TSOL, drops in Canada today, we had him call in to Sound Session to talk about the project, his writing style, when it'll be released officially in the US and more."

Download ... @DJHyphen's "Sunday Night Sound Session, #256" (Guru Dedication)

Check out the latest episode of Sunday Night Sound Session with DJ Hyphen and J. Moore. They took to the airwaves on Sunday and dedicated their entire show to Guru. I dig Hyphen's intro to the episode. Enjoy some great music!
"Soon after posting up last week’s SNSS on the blog, I heard the unfortunate news that the legendary Guru passed away. While the circumstances surrounding his coma and battle with cancer have been strange, suspicious, and possibly manipulated by his business partner Solar, enough has already been written and gossiped about on that front. Unless some new information comes to light, I’m leaving all that to the parties involved.

What I will hold on to instead is the incredible amount of quality work that Guru left us, both as a part of Gang Starr and with his Jazzmatazz projects. No, he wasn’t the best MC bar for bar and people seemed to either love or hate the monotone voice, but his contribution to this music and culture is one that few rappers will ever equal. Guru didn’t just talk the talk in his rhymes: he was a living embodiment of hip-hop, both the positive and negative aspects (like all great artists). He wasn’t a perfect man, as some in the Seattle hip-hop community can personally attest to, but ultimately, I’ll remember him for his classic records and constant effort to promote positivity in his music.

There have been plenty of great tributes to Guru already, but we wanted to pay our respect by dedicating the entire SNSS episode to him this week. We had about 400 records we wanted to play, ranging from the early Gang Starr stuff to Jazzmatazz to guest spots and b-sides, but we just ran through them live and picked ‘em along with our listeners as we went. We also dropped in a few snippets from our last interview with Guru in 2007. Shout to the entire Elam family, the Gang Starr Foundation, and 7 Grand Records. Enjoy the music and RIP to Gifted Unlimited Rhymes Universal…"

The Clipse on KUBE 93's Sound Session ...

I caught this vid this week in the email from the homie DJ Hyphen out in Seattle. Check the interview with the Clipse from Hyphen's show, "Sunday Night Sound Session"

"In their second Sunday Night Sound Session interview, Malice and Pusha T stopped by Seattle's KUBE 93 to chop it up with DJ Hyphen on 9-10-09. They talked all about their upcoming "Till The Casket Drops" album, including breakdowns of their singles with Kanye West, Cam'ron, and Pharrell. Exile Interview on Sunday Night Sound Session

The homie DJ Hyphen hit us up with an email and link to the download for the Exile interview from his Sunday Night Sound Session show. Exile is a real dope producer and he's got a lot of new exciting projects in the works. He talks to Hyphen and co-host J. Moore about his past up through his present with producing. It's a real interesting interview. Check it out.

From DJ Hyphen about the interview:
A little while back, Ex came through Sound Session to talk all about his latest opus, Radio, an album crafted entirely out of sounds culled from his home radio. He detailed the creative process behind the project and how it gave him a deeper respect for radio in general. He also talked about his crazy live MPC sets with DJ Day, how his family influenced his music, his upcoming Boy Meets World album with Fashawn, a follow up to Blu’s Below The Heavens, and the 2892412931 other projects he’s got on his plate.
