What I'm Watching: Shad - "Stylin" (feat. Saukrates)
Shad is fresh as fuck on the mic. Gotta credit Q aka ThroatChopU for putting me on to him. And I've been a fan of what I've heard from Saukrates as well so this joint produced by Skratch Bastid is a no brainer. Volume up!

Finally got some videos from the Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival here for you guys. With so many amazing artists hitting the stage, as a blogger, I'd have to apologize for the quality of these videos. As a fan, I was so into the show that I missed some opportunities to get videos of a few others, but no apologies here. Haha. From L.A. to Eternia, from Random Axe to Kanye West, I was able to get some good footage for those who missed it or those who wanna relive that day. Check out the first part of videos and make sure you stay tuned to part 2 coming.

Gearing Up For The Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival
BHF 2011 headliner, Q-Tip |
Canadian Rapper Shad |
BHF is where we met Lady Blogga for the first time in person after being cool for months online. BHF is where we met YC The Cynic, Dremur, Willie Green and many other dope NYC underground staples for the first time in person after posting much of their stuff on the site. BHF is where we met Jessica Estevez of iheartdilla.com for the first time after connecting online.
Eternia @ PAID DUES FESTIVAL by Ty Watkins |
We're already looking forward to this year's event with its' headliner Q-Tip. But I'm also excited to check out Shad and Eternia, two Canadian artists who have been among my top 10 favorite music folks for over two years. I'm also excited about performances from NYC underground legend Homeboy Sandman and newcomer female emcee Nitty Scott. And they aren't even done announcing the line up, not to mention who Q-Tip may be bringing. I've already taken the time off from work. And word is a few other good people will be in town, including my boss over at skyyhookradio.com. I'm looking forward to building, networking and connecting with some good people again this year in Brooklyn. Are you down?
One of the hardest working members of the NYC underground Hip-Hop scene, Homeboy Sandman |
In the meantime, look out for more updates as we approach the Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival this year. Also, get out and support Show & Prove tonight, with some live performances from folks vying for their chance to perform in July on the main stage.
Stay tuned.

What I'm Watching ... @mike_tompkins Feat. @ShadKMusic "Only Girl" (a cappella cover)
I caught this joint featuring Shad over on Shad's FB page this morning. Shad is a dope Canadian emcee who has been a favorite of mine for some time. However what really makes this video dope is Mike Tompkins. This is a really fresh a cappella cover of Rihanna's "Only Girl" track. Enjoy.
Our very good friend Mike Tompkins (Shad recorded The Old Prince at Mike's studio in 2007) has been killlllllling it with these videos lately. He asked Shad to join him on his latest.www.twitter.com/mike_tompkins

Shad's TSOL Arrives in the US
Shad has arrived. I've had this album for a few months now but TSOL has finally been delivered to the States. This is definitely one of my favorite releases this year. If you're not up on Shad, use this album as an opportunity to get familiar. Or continue to sleep and miss out. You make the choice.

Shad's "TSOL" in Stores October 5, 2010
Shad is an incredible artist. More importantly, he's a super dope person. I've been following this dude and his music for a little while. He is easily one of my favorites. His latest album TSOL is coming stateside in October. I fortunately got it out of Canada and can tell you, it's dope! You've probably heard a few of the tracks on this site or on The Mad Bloggers Show! I support the dude and his music! I caught this interview off his FB page and figured I'd pass it along.
Critically acclaimed, Canadian based MC Shad, brings his "TSOL" album to the US for his stateside debut on Black Box Recordings/Decon. Watch as he discusses the album and its inspirations, what the US debut means, and what Golden Girl he'd be if he had a choice.

TMB's Track of the Week 7/9/10: "Telephone" Shad
Shad is dope. I've said that before and I'll probably say it again. His new album TSOL is just another fine album in a catalog of dope albums. The first time I heard "Telephone" it was kind of acappella, which allowed the lyrics to stand out. With a fresh beat x the lyrics, this track is crazy. Enjoy "Telephone", the track of the week.

Photo courtesy of Jess Baumung www.jessbaumung.com
"Didn't believe I was def until some checks starting clearing ..."
I don't need to say Shad is dope because I've already said that a number of times. Anyway, the homie Shad dropped his new album TSOL north of the border on Tuesday and is already the # 2 joint on iTunes in Canada. I'm still working on getting a copy of the new joint. Soon come. Like I've said before, Shad is a cool dude. According to his blog he's been getting a lot of love in Canada too with the project. This is a piece that the National Post did with Shad. Enjoy.

Shad Interview on Sunday Night Sound Session (via @DJHyphen)
"Maybe I'm not big cause I don't blog or twitter..."
I'm not sure how I got put on to Shad's music. It might have been DJ Hyphen that put me on to him or someone else. I really don't recall. I do know I haven't looked back since. Shad is a dope dude. He's definitely one of my favorite emcees! His new album dropped today "TSOL" in Canada. I had to reach out to my Canadian connect to get it. Anyway, the homie DJ Hyphen caught up to Shad Sunday night for this interview. I don't post interviews too often but I felt the need to post this one. Check it!
via @DJHyphen
"Shad is one of my favorite MC's and since his new album, TSOL, drops in Canada today, we had him call in to Sound Session to talk about the project, his writing style, when it'll be released officially in the US and more."
