Dope project from ScholarMan on the production side of things. I dig it. So, spread love, it's the Brooklyn way ...
"The Lasting is a collection of beats that I have created over the past year or so. Some of these beats actually had lyrics recorded to them but were never released. I have included a range of sounds on this project – everything from boom-bap hip-hop to alternative melodies. The inspiration and fuel behind the title is simply achieving a level of respect and notoriety that is lasting instead of gaining temporary, trivial attention. In a nutshell, The Lasting creates the legacy."
The homie ScholarMan serves up his eighth retail alum. Another solid offering from the Maryland emcee. I could go into depth about ScholarMan's new project but I'll let his words speak for themselves. Enjoy. Chea!
"Worth Fighting For is a testament to the many years of toil I have put in to not only building my craft but also growing and improving as a man and a father. The title of the album represents a question as well as a statement – are your dreams worth fighting for? Your dreams ARE worth fighting for. With that said, this album is another building block within my own struggle as an independent artist. As Talib Kweli once said, my struggle has been a “beautiful one.” I don’t have any regrets with the amount of blood, tears and sweat that I have put into my dream. As always this album contains my ups, downs, loves, opinions and more. I hope you enjoy my latest and greatest. Thanks for the support."
ScholarMan is no stranger to the site. I've enjoyed his music and the message behind it. So, it's no surprise I dig his new track off his upcoming Worth Fighting For, due out in February. Sit back and enjoy the Marques Green of Que Films directed and edited video. Chea!

A new solid project from the homie ScholarMan and Jonesy. Jonesy goes off of the production providing a solid backdrop for ScholarMan's incredible lyrics and storytelling. The five track EP is dope from start to finish. Tracks like The Day End, S.H.E.s Gone and Raising The Bar are among my favorites. Definitely worth the listen. The Surface Under has soul. Literally. "A Tree Grows is a song that I have been slowly crafting for the past few months - probably the longest I have spent on one joint. When I began writing it, the goal was a song with hooks but I couldnt find a good stopping point between verses so it turned into one long work. After getting the verse finished, I couldnt find/make the "perfect" beat for it...me raising the bar on me I guess. So I decided to record multiple versions, using some beats from my favorite producers as well as my own. Pick your favorite.. peace." -ScholarMan
So, I'm tuned into MTV RapFix Live this afternoon, and Yelawolf, one of my favorite heads making music right now was the featured guest. So, Sway (the host of the Internet-based show) gets to a segment, Get In The Game, where they feature an unknown artist and the featured guest offers them some advice.
Most of the time it's someone I've never heard of. And then I hear the name ScholarMan. If you've been following the blog long enough, you know that I'm a fan of ScholarMan and we've been supporting his work for as long as it has been hitting our inbox. ScholarMan is quite the storyteller. Check out the new EP, "Hood Stories The Remixes." Those that have been following ScholarMan these tracks will be familiar, coming from his Hood Stories. Jonesy gives them a different feel but that strong storytelling of despair, struggle and reality remains. Go ahead and download it.
Shortly after ScholarMan and Jonesy released Distant Voices in 2009, Jonesy came up with the idea to remix all of the tracks from ScholarMan’s Hood Stories series and here is the final project. This EP features original lyrics from the first four tracks and a brand new fifth song to close out the collection.
Father's day usually brings bitterness. My pops wasn't there like that. I'm okay with that now. I did however have a stepfather and grandfather who provided me with fine examples of being a man. As a father now, I try to provide my children with the same type of guidance. Even if things aren't always right between their mothers and I, I still continue to maintain that connection with them. It's important. Far too often on this day, folks talk about how guys aren't shit, etc, etc. Let's leave them deadbeat dudes for another day and pay homage to REAL fathers. It's important. Talk about these dudes that suck on Monday.
The homie ScholarMan put together a great father's day tribute to his father who he lost recently (deepest condolences). Check it out. It's fresh. It's personal. Maybe you'll find a connection.
To those fathers out there, happy fathers day.
My father passed a few weeks ago and as we come closer to Father's Day I thought I would honor him by presenting the hip-hop community this EP. I borrowed some samples from one of his favorite doo wop groups, The Dreamlovers and created this project. My pops was an avid supporter of my music and I am truly grateful to have had him as a father. So with that said, I dedicate this EP to all the dedicated father's and to those who had a dedicated fathers or father figures in their lives.

I caught this joint, The Sum Up '09, from the good folks at Soganic Music. Great music! They gathered some of their favorite tracks from the year and put them together for this free EP. It's aimed at those who might have missed out on the tracks when they were originally released. Yeah, I'm one of those people and I won't sleep on the Soganic and their artist now!
