What I'm Watching: ¡MAYDAY! - "My Life feat. Irv Da Phenom"
¡MAYDAY! releases another video off their amazing second album, "Believers", from the Strange Music music label with the feature assist from Irv Da Phenom. Mix some Hip-Hop and some rock, and you get this music. I dig it.

What I'm Watching: @the_17th "My Drug"
Although grim, The 17th brilliantly executes the video for his first major song "My Drug," which gives an eye-opening look into the struggles and dangers of drug addiction. What I also find fascinating, is that if you listen closely to the lyrics, "My Drug" doubly serves as a representation of an extremely toxic relationship. All too often, we hear stories about friends and/or family in situations that are detrimental to their mental health, but because that's all they know, they continue to stay involved and it becomes some sort of an addiction. With that being said, The 17th has taken steps to help those in need. His song is currently being featured as an aid for a music therapy class at a local drug rehabilitation facility in his home town. Because both the song and video have been so well received, it is his hope to get "My Drug" into rehab facilities across the country. I congratulate him in his effort because as many of us understand, whether from personal experience or from people we know, drug addiction is a very real thing, and to fix the ever growing problem, it starts at home.
To stay up-to-date with The 17th, you can follow him at twitter.com/the_17th (he's a really nice guy, so hit him up) and you can hear "My Drug" and his latest track "Push" in rotation at Radio 104.1 FM. The 17th is also working on his debut EP Free Music set for release next month, but in the meantime, enjoy the video.

What I'm Watching: Nana "Sao Brooklyn" feat. Nello Luchi
Sao Paulo's NanĂ¡ Rizinni and Brooklyn's Nello Luchi join forces on what they call a "pop/rock/hip-hop track." I dig it. The duo put together a pretty cool video filmed in Brazil and New York for Sao Brooklyn. Hit play and enjoy. Chea!

What I'm Watching: Easy Does It - "Feelin' Like Ooh"
As we travel on the different side of TMB's track, we run into Easy Does It out of Atlantic City. Vocalist Jake describes their group using two others: The Roots x Sublime. I saw The Roots and immediately became curious. Their style is definitely a change of pace from what we normally post on here but after a few listens, I can honestly say I dig it. Sometimes, it's cool to switch it up and I think here's a good enough time as any. Thoughts?

What EMS Is Listening To ... "My Drug" x The 17th
Let me just start with saying, WOW! I actually stumbled across this little gem by happenstance. The 17th followed me on Twitter, and whilst checking out the profile, I noticed a link. Funny thing is, I rarely click on folks' twitter links, but something just said, "Yo, go check this out." And lo and behold... Dope! I've always been a fan of fusing genres and "My Drug" is a perfect amalgamation of hip-hop and rock. It's edgy, eerie and all over the place but in the most beautiful way that a song can be crafted. I promise, that's a compliment (I'm not always the best wordsmith). Something else I love about this song is that you're able to just lose yourself in the music. Sometimes, we definitely all need that.
But, "My Drug" isn't the only thing that The 17th has to offer. Over on the17th.com, the player at the top has a few other songs that I think you guys will dig in addition to this one. So, enjoy!

Check It ... Rock of Heltah Skeltah Preps New Mix CD Rockin Out West
Rock of Heltah Skeltah Preps New Mix CD Rockin Out West
After recently beating out an attempted murder charge, Rock a.k.a The Rockness Monstah of Heltah Skeltah is back with his latest Mix CD project Rockin Out West, available September 7th, 2010 for physical CD release only. The album is an ode to Rock's time spent out on the West Coast in Los Angeles with guest features from Kurupt, Ras Kass, Nate Dogg, and more.
"Rockin Out West is my latest gem" says Rock. "Most diamonds are rocks that form under high-pressure high-temperature conditions but at the end you get something beautiful, something special, a gem. That’s all a metaphor for the case I faced over the past two and a half years. The case and the pressure I was under created the climate that gave me the fuel and the fire to do this project. It happened on accident, but then again I don’t really believe in accidents."
With Rock's powerful voice and hard hitting rhymes over classic West Coast hits, Rock is confident in the release, elaborating "To all of my fans and supporters, old and new, this gem is my gift to you! Rock on!"
Rock will be releasing several music videos from the forthcoming Mix CD, in the meantime fans can listen to the latest leak off Rockin Out West, "Rockridah" as Rock's distinctive sound flows over 2Pac's classic "Ambitionz Az A Ridah" below.

Check It... General Steele "NO SLEEP TILL BUCKTOWN"
Caught this track in the email today, "No Sleep Till Bucktown" (Click to Download). Straight off that General Steele of Smif N Wessun "Welcome To Bucktown" album, which is in stores tomorrow. This track features Louisville, Top Dog & Rock of Boot Camp Clik, along with Ruste Juxx, The Representativz & Young Coke. This is the type of joint that you need to throw the bass up on and will probably blow out your speakers. Make sure it's not playing while you on the dance floor with a girl. Somebody might get elbowed son.
NYC Album release party on Wednesday, May 6th at DROM (85 Avenue A between 5th and 6th street). Doors Open at 6pm with free admission until 10pm. $10 after 10pm.
