What I'm Watching: The Internet - "Shadow Dance"

Oh, man. This track is sooooooooo smooth. So, so smooth. I haven't played The Internet's album in a minute. This video is my reminder. Love it.

What I'm Watching: Odd Future "Oldie"

Hijack the Terry Richardson photoshoot, tape a video and then release that bitch. Why not, right? Odd Future drops the impromptu visuals for Oldie off of their The O.F. Tape Vol. 2 album out today. I dig it.

What I'm Watching: Frank Ocean “Acura Integurl”

Frank Ocean “Acura Integurl” from Team OnSMASH on Vimeo.

Folks think of Frank Ocean as kind of the odd ball in Odd Future, if that makes sense. The Def Jam signee adds an interesting and sometimes edgy twist to R&B but nothing like the edge Odd Future adds to music. I think the dude is talented and with something like 80 cuts from him in my iTunes, I think what he is doing is pretty dope. Let's see how much Def Jam fucks up this already winning formula. Anyway, Frank Ocean's “Acura Integurl” has been making its rounds on the net. I caught and shared it the other day on tumblr. If you missed, check it out now. Enjoy. Chea!

Is Tyler, The Creator the Future?

"I'm an overachiever, so how about I start a team of leaders and pick up Stevie Wonder to be the wide receiver..."

Alright. So let's have this conversation. I posted this video over on my tumblr yesterday and I have had a few side convos on twitter about the youngin' Tyler, the Creator of the Odd Future crew. What's your thoughts?

I had all but ignored his music until the video for "Yonkers" dropped. To clarify, I had ignored the music mostly because I wasn't interested and not because I had heard it and didn't like it. I mean, I heard bits and pieces, mostly because of the fuss about Earl Sweatshirt and his music.

Anyway, "Yonkers" is the first track off of Tyler the Creator's upcoming album Goblin. In watching this video I'm not sure whether I should be impressed or disturbed or perhaps the point is to be both. It seems like, based on my experience with Earl, these guys are all about shock and awe with their music and videos to match. Not to say that's a bad thing. This video, while simple is dope. The angles of which it is shot, the black and white and what's in focus and out of focus and how that changes constantly is brilliant.

And then there is the rhyme. The punchlines. The content. The flow.

But I still don't know what to make of all of this.

I've watched this video more than a dozen times and I circle back to the same place, which leads to the following statement, "I like it but why."

Hit up the comment section and let's discuss. Is Tyler, The Creator the future?
