Download ... Nicolay with The Hot At Nights - "Shibuya Session EP"
This is kind of a break from my norm but music associated with Nicolay is never a bad diversion from the norm. This EP had me floating. I hit play and immediately relaxed listening to the sounds Nicolay, The Foreign Exchange, and the three person jazz ensemble put together. Download this free EP and I'm sure you'll do the same.
+FE Music proudly presents the "Shibuya Session EP", a collaboration between Nicolay and the Raleigh-based exploratory jazz trio The Hot At Nights, led by 8-string guitar virtuoso (and The Foreign Exchange guitarist) Chris Boerner with Matt Douglas on sax/woodwinds and Nick Baglio on drums.Follow the madness: twitter.com/TheMadBloggers_
The EP was recorded at Sound Pure Studios in Durham NC and features new interpretations and arrangements of eight instrumental compositions from Nicolay's 2009 album "City Lights Vol. 2: Shibuya".

Interview: Miss Special x Nicolay
A little over a week ago, myself and Myk Blauuw had the opportunity to have a phone interview with producer, Nicolay. We spoke about Phonte's upcoming solo project, if it features any Nicolay production, the upcoming Median album and working with Wiz Khalifa early on. We also spoke about the "City Lights" volumes, why The Foreign Exchange chose to do a live album, performing "Return Of The Mack" on tour, what to expect from the live show, YahZarah's new baby, having their own label and more.

What I'm Watching ... The Foreign Exchange - "Authenticity"
New video by The Foreign Exchange. Seems like every time they come out with a video, I have to go back to the cd, hit play and repeat.
I don’t know where I should be!
This game we play is killing me.
She’s all that I could dream,
But she tears me apart.
She wants me to feel her need,
She begs for authenticity,
You don’t want truth from me,
You just want what you want!

Nicolay & Ugene "Love Is In Control (Finger On The Trigger)"
Post straight from the homie producer Nicolay!
Today, I am another year older, and what better to commemorate this than with a particularly festive 'Off The Shelf' download, aimed for the dancefloors!
In the previous installment of this series, I broke down the story of how I first met the lovely and talented Moon Baker, many years ago. That story really isn't complete without acknowledging another good friend of mine, the amazingly talented Dutch singer and keyboardist Ugene.
My bandmates and I had seen Ugene perform on a late night television show one night in '95 or '96, and we were all floored. A voice like Ugene's, you just don't hear everyday, especially in The Netherlands. It took us a while to track him down, but we eventually got a hold of him and somehow persuaded him to sing and play with us for a while. Fortunately for us, he ended up playing with us for several years. Most of my favorite memories from those days involve sharing the stage and the rehearsal studio with Ugene and Moon, who formed an incredible vocal tandem together.
To make a long story short: Ugene and I recorded this cover version of the Quincy Jones produced Donna Summer track "Love Is In Control (Finger In The Trigger)" in April of 2005. It was originally intended for a compilation album on an indie label, but they didn't use it and so the track ended up on the shelf.
Ugene is another artist that deserves any and all attention. He's currently working on a new project with a formation that actually includes two other friends of mine from Europe, Krewcial and Gus. Until next time, and as always...
thanks for listening, Nicolay

What I'm Watching Right Now!
Phonte (of Little Brother) and producer Nicolay (who make up the crew Foreign Exchange) asked folks to join follow them on twitter at twitter.com/FEofficial. They promised once they passed 2,000 followers they would post their newest video "Take off the Blues". To me it was better than jumping on that bangwagon to follow Ashton Kutcher (even though he was doing a great thing for charity). They passed the finish line and boom, here is an amazing video and the reason you should definitely support Foreign Exchange.
Go cop the album. Click cover to purchase.
