What I'm Watching: Georgia Anne Muldrow - "Pop Iconz"

Check out the visuals from Georgia Anne's latest.

The Anaconda Killer takes aim at mainstream mindlessness!

Georgia Says:
“We as parents have to walk a very fine line between being watchful and overprotective of what our kids are exposed to...and that job is being made even more difficult by the hyper-sexual, consumerist and vain aesthetic packed with visual associations that are intentionally targeting the pre-teen generation. I’m placing the blame on the corporate agenda that abuses the minds and souls of talented or even aspiring artists.

To represent an awareness that is willfully avoidant of self-realization is the bottom line for these influencers of consciousness; if someone’s life goals are completely external his/her mind can easily be subdued and controlled.

Art means too much to me, i ain’t having it."

About the track:
When Georgia Anne Muldrow surveys the musical landscape, she's left wanting more. It's not easy for us to watch the likes of Nicki Minaj dressed up as kalediscopic crack dealer highlighting and promoting a dead end lifestyle.

"rap about the trap 'stead of kneeeling to god
rap about their back 'stead of freedom through art
rap about their cheese in a wig from a doll...
your lips are being used black swann, like a pawn"

Produced by Chris Keys, Georgia Anne Muldrow blesses us with her views on the politrix being parlayed into a hateful power structure that is affecting the community. Please don't get it twisted, she's not interested in your riches, she's trying to tell you the children - they are listening.

Diamond District - "First Step"

Finally! Diamond District is back. Oddisee, yU, and Uptown XO come out swinging on this hard hitting track off "March On Washington". Can't say enough great things about the production Oddisee brings to the table. Add XO and yU to the mix and you get an explosive sound that reverberates from the states to overseas. Nothing short of dope on this single. Check it.
From the upcoming return of Diamond District "March On Washington" October 14th. Diamond District is yU, Oddisee, and Uptown XO. Produced by Oddisee.

When Diamond District dropped In the Ruff on Mello Music Group in 2009, the gritty drums and grimy raps combined as elementally as hydrogen and oxygen. The D.C. Voltron of Oddisee, yU, and X.O. dusted off and revitalized a sound once consigned to the catacombs.

Hailed as an instance classic, its impact reverberated throughout the underground and mainstream. The Washington D.C. City Paper called it the city’s best album in many years. During an era when lyricism was deemed too intellectual and samples too dated,Diamond District overturned conventional logic. They preserved the raw and made it righteous.

A half-decade later, the holy trinity has returned with March on Washington. The truths remain timeless. Wisdom over rhythm. Slang turned into testament.

Oddisee - "Nothing Has A Never"

"Well, if I could do nothing for something, that would be great / but doing something for nothing is more likely the case / (???) call it freelancing, instead of a lack of pay / listen, I don't give a fuck what you say / cut the check."

What can I say about dude that hasn't been said on here. Dopeness. This track is from the Mandala Vol. 1, Polysonic Flows by Mello Music Group and it features a plethora talented individuals. And as I type this out, I literally just bought the entire joint. Can't go wrong for that price for 20 tracks. Boom!™

What I'm Watching: Oddisee - "After Thoughts"

Zone out music. Oddisee never disappoints.

Oddisee - The Beauty In All. Directed by GrĂ©goire Marty
Take a kaleidoscopic journey through the memories that float in our mind's eye in this new video from Oddisee. The song "After Thoughts" is a haunting and wistful instrumental that reminisces through an assortment of days in dreamlike fashion. After Thoughts is from Oddisee's upcoming instrumental project (his first since Rock Creek Park) titled "The Beauty In All".
About "The Beauty In All."

"The Beauty In All is about the flaws & mistakes that give life its character and worth - how even ignorance can give light to knowledge. For me, not knowing how to do something & still trying is a process that helped my production style evolve. If everything we are is out in perfect tutorials, we might never deviate from the teacher. This record is dedicated to imperfection and the sense of pride & accomplishment we get from our struggles. Hopefully, you listen to this record, reflect on the ups & downs of life, and see the beauty in all."

Download: Trek Life "Wouldn't Change Nothing"

With free albums as dope as this, it sure does make it much easier for me to ignore a lot of these other projects folks try to pass off as music. Trek Life doesn't disappoint on this 14 joint album. There's no complaining about the drought of good music on my end as long as I get music this good.

California vet Trek Life is ready and set for his upcoming album with producer Duke Westlake to hit the scene, but before we get into the new album, MMG thought we ought to share "Wouldn't Change Nothing" with the people. WCN is the complete 14 track album remixes of the Oddisee produced "Everything Changed Nothing" featuring new versions produced by Apollo Brown, Audible Doctor, Has-Lo, Slimkat78, Oddisee, and Duke Westlake himself. Get the free download of the entire "Wouldn't Change Nothing" project and then get ready for more news on the new upcoming Trek Life album due out in April!

The Black Opera "Balcony"

In the world of opera, a libretto is the blueprint, a written text that anchors the performance. In the same vein, The Black Opera’s  upcoming album Libretto: Of King Legend will prove to anchor the sound and message of The Black Opera. Libretto: Of King Legend is a detailed tale, told from the perspectives of both the incredible King and his loyal statesmen.

Mello Music Group and The Black Opera serve Balcony off of the upcoming Libretto: Of King Legend due out October 30th. Enjoy. Chea!

What I'm Watching: 7evenThirty - "GetUp!!!"

Something about this joint just comes off musically refreshing. I can't tell if it's the production or the flow or both. Either way, I'm digging this. This track is off his recently released album "Heaven's Computer". Get it and peep the video.

14KT - "High Horse" feat Oddisee & Olivier Daysoul

14KT, Oddisee, and Olivier Daysoul. You can't be mad at the dopeness that fills this track. I played this about 4 times before I could even pause long enough to post this joint. Damn.

This is the first creation from the upcoming 4 track EP, a song originally titled "One 4 Black", which rhyming adept Oddisee re-envisioned with a little help on the hook from the mellifluous Olivier Daysoul. The message is as straightforward as the new title "High Horse". Enjoy!

Download: Gensu Dean - "Lo-Fi Finghaz Instrumentals"

Need some dope instrumentals from the good folks at Mellow Music Group?! Here you go. Enjoy.

Armed with a dusty SP-1200 and equally weathered records, Gensu Dean made a splash in the indie rap scene with his debut LP Lo-Fi Fingahz on Mello Music Group. The record was an uncompromising modern display of tradition—hardcore MC’s over hardcore beats, plain and simple. The project was a proud beacon for the old guard, a proclamation that hip-hop can grow but the roots will always be the foundation. Now Gensu and MMG are dropping the instrumentals.

Stik Figa - "Medicine"

This Stik Figa track is smooth and filled with a lot of mental provoking lyrics that no doubt compliments the production. If you haven't checked out "As Himself", I suggest you give it a try.

Stik Figa hits the ground running questioning the metrics of masculinity; drawing parallels between the motivation behind armed robbery and playing the lotto; and explaining how for many “Ready to Die is a religion and philosophy.”

“The hands that picked cotton could today build monuments. The kid who cooked crack could be a chemist or a pharmacist.”

What I'm Watching: Sean Born - "Lights On" (@BackroadBorn)

"I'm just trying to keep my lights on." I dig Sean Born on this joint, definitely. I can relate. Lot of distractions and unnecessary mess out in the world that gets in the way of taking care of what's more important. Check the video out.

Boog Brown - "Baby Girl" (prod. Georgia Muldrow)

Both versions have their own feel to it and both work for me. Boog Brown doesn't disappoint on "Baby Girl" dedicating this track to those hard working, talented women in the world. Take a listen.

Boog Brown has released her first ever vinyl 7" as part of Mello Music's new monthly series. The record features 2 songs produced by Georgia Anne Muldrow. The first "My Love Rmx" was featured on Boog's Brown Study Remixes album, but the B-Side is a previously unreleased track that Georgia laid the soundscape under titled "Baby Girl". The 7" vinyl series is limited to just 300 copies of each edition! To give listeners a taste, Boog & MMG are giving the B-Side track "Baby Girl" along with a second version of "Baby Girl" - both produced by Georgia Anne Muldrow.

What I'm Watching ... DTMD - "You"
