Dunson "Count On It"

Serving as one of my favorite hip-hop artists over the last year with his impressive and lively sophomore album Creative Destruction 2, Dunson is back with his freshest cut, "Count On It" off the fittingly titled upcoming project The Investment. I remember when I first heard one of Dunson's songs, and all I could think was, "who is this guy?" I was taken aback because it has become so extremely rare that an artist puts together such a solid body of work where not one song can be skipped. My hat is off to him, and I'm looking forward to keeping up with his rapidly blooming career.

Just in case you're not familiar with his story, it's pretty cool. So, check it out and enjoy the song:
"Dunson resigned from his career as an investment advisor to become a full-time artist in 2010. After spending a multitude of years playing in bands of different genres, the Maryland native took the chance to become a solo artist focusing on lyrics and production. He has since amassed a receptive, global fan-base, proven through hundreds of thousands of downloads of his self-produced Creative Destruction series, among other projects and collaborations."

What I'm Watching: Kenton Dunson "Firestarter" feat. Ryan Kellie

Off of the multi-talented Kenton Dunson's Creative Destruction 2, comes a solid track featuring Ryan Kellie. According to Kenton, the song is based on his own experiences.

"She was blazing a mean trail! Eventually she must have realized her faults because she later apologized saying she didn't mean any harm but honestly, when does that ever help?" Kenton said. "I'm actually good friends with her today so my goal is not to put that individual on blast but as you progress as a songwriter, you absolutely must allow yourself to express true emotion whether the subject is sensitive or not."

Directed by William Bastian II. Fresh video.

Kenton Dunson "Creative Destruction 2"

The first track I heard from Kenton Dunson was his remix to the John Legend cover of Rolling In The Deep. I thought the dude was dope and have been paying attention since. We've featured him on the blog a few times since. His new project Creative Destruction 2 is pretty solid. I'll allow Kenton to take it from here to give you some insight on his new project.
"Creative Destruction 2 is about more than Kenton Dunson. It’s about life, ambition, heartbreak and most importantly, passion. When I came up with the Creative Destruction concept for the first album, I didn’t think it would turn into a series. But as a developing artist in a saturated music environment, I know it’s important to display what you have as soon as it’s ready. This time around, the term Creative Destruction meant replacing my old creative approach as an artist to build more tangible songs that touched a wider base of listeners while remaining original. I believe I struck a solid balance with Creative Destruction 2. I kept the album short and relevant, there’s no fluff on this project. It’s all self-produced and I was able to include two great features to round out the album. This is my best work to date and the momentum is amazing." - Kenton Dunson
Hit play and enjoy.

John Legend "Rolling In The Deep" (Kenton Dunson Remix) Feat. Kenton Dunson

With the new blog schedule I set for myself, I rarely post things on Wednesday. But I came across this joint from Kenton Dunson, which is a remix to the cover of Adele's "Rolling In The Deep" and so I felt the need to post today. Let me just put something out there right quick, folks shouldn't get into the habit of doing covers of any of Adele's music and think that shit is gonna fly over here because it's not. I think Adele has a powerful voice and her tracks are better left untouched in terms of covers. I hope we're clear on that. Ha! However, this Adele cover is the joint that John Legend laid down some smooth vocals to on the acappella version of "Rolling In The Deep", so it's cool with me.

Adele, since her first album, has kind of become a Hip-Hop songstress by default with much of vocals being sampled *cough Hometown Glory*. What Kenton Dunson did here was take the John Legend version of "Rolling In The Deep" and add to it. Kenton writes, "when I heard John released this acappella of an awesome song by a great artist, I took that acappella and went to my piano, kick drum and bottle of whiskey...this happened."

I think Kenton did a great job adding layers and two pretty cool verses to this joint. Hit up the comment section with your thoughts. In the meantime, enjoy. Chea!
