Last week, thanks to Big Von and my internship at 106.1 KMEL, I had the amazing opportunity to very briefly interview J. Cole. We talked about the impact of “The Warm Up”, a video for “Lights Please”, why “In The Morning” was released so many times and his many person perspective rap style.
*Miss Special’s note: This interview was something I did for me; as a long time fan, as a pure appreciator of this man’s music, his journey and the inspiration he gives me. I didn’t do this interview for a “breaking story” and I damn sure didn’t want to ask him the same four questions that everyone else has been asking him for months. But I did want to take just a little bit of time to ask him some things I had wondered for years and really take the opportunity to thank him for the impact his music had on my life during the hardest of times. Plus what do you ask an artist who’s music you just really get? It may not mean much to you, but it’s incredible how much it means to me.

I caught this J. Cole "Killers" joint early this morning. According to Cole it's an older joint that comes from the vaults of the previously unreleased. It's dope. Vandalyzm offers up a nothing ass verse with a hook on a beat. Yes, that's the name of the track too. As Vandalyzm wrote, "not going to fake the listener out, this is just me rhyming ill bars over a dope beat that I made, pretty simple right?" Simple concept indeed. Dope too. If you've been following the blog long enough, you know the homie e.d.g.e. is a regular on the site. A few weeks back he was dropping three tracks per week. He's scaled that back a little. Check out his Shane Eli produced track, "The Opposition". Look out for his All Flow Everything project coming soon.
Big K.R.I.T. offers up another great cut from his upcoming ReturnOf4Eva. On the self produced track K.R.I.T. continues to impress me. Honestly, I haven't met a K.R.I.T. track that I didn't like.
Last but not least, the homie Chad over at DonutsandMilk.com hit me with this joint from G-Eazy off his upcoming The Outsider mixtape. This open letter to Amber Rose is definitely a winner in my book.

The homey J. Cole was in town over the weekend for our Bumbershoot Festival and he came through the Sound Session studio to kick it with us. We recorded a normal interview, which we’ll air soon and also post here, but in the interim, you can peep the archive of the live UStream web chat that we did with almost a thousand listeners logged in to the room.
Cole ran through some random questions from his fans in the chat and I tossed him some that people were tweeting us at the same time. He talked about everything from his album, his upcoming mixtape, his touring, his favorite athletes, and much more. I caught this J. Cole interview in an email from the homie Chedo over at the Come Up Show. "He is one of my favorite new artists and I am really excited to see him go far," Chedo said. "The Warm Up in my opinion is one of the best mixtapes I have heard, music with feeling as I like to call it."
