What I'm Watching: J-Live - "Not Listening"
J-Live not trying to listen when you ain't even saying shit. Especially if it's sounds like a broken record. Truthfully, neither are we. Haha.
You on some next shit, really are you sure?
Stop me if you ain't never heard this before
Okay, you got on some jewelry, you push a nice ride
You really like the color of the leather inside
You grew up in the hood and you surprised you survived
You nice on the mic, top 10 dead or alive
You prefer pretty girls, especially thick
Coincidentally, that's the type that's on your dick
Your crazy misadventures are unique and bugged
Like remember that time you shot guns and sold drugs?
Your next album's about to change the game
The world's on notice to remember your name
You love where you live and that's where you get your style from
How I just summed up your last three albums?!

Download: J-Live - "Around The Sun"
Fortunate to see this dude live just days ago performing tracks off this album. He put together a great show. Picked a dope and fluid lineup of acts. The night, in my eyes and ears, was a success. Then I copped the album and got to zone out with in at home, speakers blaring. J-Live has done it again. Another dope album assisted by a few of his equally talented peers is in the books. You can listen to "Around The Sun" in its entirety on his bandcamp and make sure you cop it as well. You won't regret it.
J-Live's 10th release and 6th full length album, "Around The Sun" marks yet another growth spurt for the indie hip hop veteran. "Around The Sun features a smooth yet gritty OG boom bap New York sound. It's a cohesive work of art, but still an eclectic listen with a wide range of production as exhibited by the first two released tracks "Money Matters" prod. by Oddisee and "Not Listening" prod. by Korede.

J-Live - "Not Listening" (Prod. by Korede)
I nodded my head extra hard listening to what J-Live was spititng on this track because I know the pitfalls he talks about here that rappers/emcees succumb to. Hard to listen to cats that are dope not really saying much. Word up. Peep the track. Hopefully, it inspires them to improve.

He releases this mixtape with a variety of artists, new and veteran, that is holding it down in the world of Hip-Hop. It's free, baby. What's better than hot and dope Hip-Hop that's free?!
The mixtape features a mixture of this year's new hip hop from the commercial, major label and trendy to the underground, independent and avant garde.
