Download: J-Live - "Around The Sun"

Fortunate to see this dude live just days ago performing tracks off this album. He put together a great show. Picked a dope and fluid lineup of acts. The night, in my eyes and ears, was a success. Then I copped the album and got to zone out with in at home, speakers blaring. J-Live has done it again. Another dope album assisted by a few of his equally talented peers is in the books. You can listen to "Around The Sun" in its entirety on his bandcamp and make sure you cop it as well. You won't regret it.

J-Live's 10th release and 6th full length album, "Around The Sun" marks yet another growth spurt for the indie hip hop veteran. "Around The Sun features a smooth yet gritty OG boom bap New York sound. It's a cohesive work of art, but still an eclectic listen with a wide range of production as exhibited by the first two released tracks "Money Matters" prod. by Oddisee and "Not Listening" prod. by Korede.

What I'm Watching: Homeboy Sandman "Not Really"

Since inking a deal with Stones Throw, people have asked Homeboy Sandman if his life has changed, and his response, 'Not really.' Substantial - "Reloaded" feat. Homeboy Sandman & Javier Starks

This track definitely has an 80s video game and 90s Hip-Hop feel to it. Pretty energetic and had me hitting the repeat button a few times. All three emcees go to work on Joe.D's production with no problem.

As Substantial’s Mello Music Group debut Home Is Where The Art Is nears release, the DMV MC can’t contain his excitement. In anticipation of the release, Substantial joins indie powerhouse Homeboy Sandman and up-and-coming DMV wordsmith Javier Starks for the high-energy track “ReLOADED”.

The track doesn’t appear on Substantial’s own album but is instead a bonus cut from Javier Starks’ upcoming EP, executive produced by Substizzle. and produced by Joe.D, (the main producer for Gods’Illa).

Homeboy Sandman "Not Pop" (Jinesis Remix)

The homie Jinesis takes on Homeboy Sandman's "Not Pop" and gives it a new spin. Fresh. I dig it.  Hit play and enjoy.
When first hearing Homeboy Sandman's  "Not Pop" song there were lines that stuck out to me. One of the lines was "*they tell me dumb it down, I tell them smarten up*". At first I was going to take that part and flip it on some chop & screw vibe, but that didn't happen. I decided to turn this flip into a remix and I came up with this. We the Spartans, son. Pardon us. -Jinesis

Check It ... Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival (Videos Pt 1 + 2)

Finally got some videos from the Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival here for you guys. With so many amazing artists hitting the stage, as a blogger, I'd have to apologize for the quality of these videos. As a fan, I was so into the show that I missed some opportunities to get videos of a few others, but no apologies here. Haha. From L.A. to Eternia, from Random Axe to Kanye West, I was able to get some good footage for those who missed it or those who wanna relive that day. Check out the first part of videos and make sure you stay tuned to part 2 coming.

A Day In The Life of Homeboy Sandman

BHF '11 - A Day In The Life of Homeboy Sandman from BrooklynBodegaTV on Vimeo.

Homeboy Sandman is dope. Brooklyn Bodega's The Company Man spent a day with Homeboy Sandman as he hits various studios and travels around NYC. I'm definitely looking forward to seeing him rock at the Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival July 16th, along with Eternia, Shad, headliner Q-Tip and others. Peep the day in the life of Homeboy Sandman in the meantime. Chea!

Gearing Up For The Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival

BHF 2011 headliner, Q-Tip

Canadian Rapper Shad
Yeah buddy, it's that time of year again. You know, when the Brooklyn Bodega rolls out their line-up for the Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival. O and I have attended the last few years, rain and shine. We've peeped some pretty dope live performances, enjoyed good food, drank and have met up with some fresh people.

BHF is where we met Lady Blogga for the first time in person after being cool for months online. BHF is where we met YC The Cynic, Dremur, Willie Green and many other dope NYC underground staples for the first time in person after posting much of their stuff on the site. BHF is where we met Jessica Estevez of iheartdilla.com for the first time after connecting online.
Eternia @ PAID DUES FESTIVAL by Ty Watkins

We're already looking forward to this year's event with its' headliner Q-Tip. But I'm also excited to check out Shad and Eternia, two Canadian artists who have been among my top 10 favorite music folks for over two years. I'm also excited about performances from NYC underground legend Homeboy Sandman and newcomer female emcee Nitty Scott. And they aren't even done announcing the line up, not to mention who Q-Tip may be bringing. I've already taken the time off from work. And word is a few other good people will be in town, including my boss over at skyyhookradio.com. I'm looking forward to building, networking and connecting with some good people again this year in Brooklyn. Are you down?
One of the hardest working members of the NYC underground Hip-Hop scene, Homeboy Sandman
The week-long Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival kicks off July 11 and culminates with the Family Day and Main Stage Performances on July 16. Throughout the week they'll be a salute to the DJs, the Brooklyn Bodega will have a recognition awards night, in addition to their education initiative and other events. I usually kick it for the tail end of the week. If you're in the city, you should make time. I mean, let's get together for drinks, they're on you. Ha!

In the meantime, look out for more updates as we approach the Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival this year. Also, get out and support Show & Prove tonight, with some live performances from folks vying for their chance to perform in July on the main stage.

Stay tuned.

I posted the track yesterday and now I bring you the Noisemaker Media directed video for Jesse Abraham's "Spiderman On Vitamins", produced by Spills and off the upcoming One Day ep due to drop in March. Yeah, I fuks with this video. The energy of the video definitely matches that of the high paced track. Shouts to Warren Britt, Homeboy Sandman, YC the Cynic and others with the cameos.
