Download: Wrekonize - "Sunny Winter EP"

So it's the 7th day in the new year and Wrekonize decides to bless us with new music. Who's mad?! Not. Me. Nope! This 5 track project here is produced entirely by Hippy Sabotage. With a name like that for a producer, you'll hear why it matches perfectly soon as you hit play. Wrek does what he's known to do on the mic in "Sunny Winter". Good, good music here and it's free! Get you some.

Kev Brown & Hassaan Mackey - "That Grit" (Album Stream)

Awwwwww man, this is dope! Kev Brown and Hassaan Mackey respectfully create quality Hip-Hop music time and time again. They joined forces for this project here and I can't be any more pleased. I get to add another album to my never ending list of good Hip-Hop music. Read a little bit about the two and then peep the entire album right after.

Following the critically acclaimed "Pillars" EP with MindsOne, Kev Brown teams up again with Ill Adrenaline Records, this time collaborating with fellow Low Budget Crew member Hassaan Mackey to bless listeners with "That Grit".

Both the Landover, MD based producer-on-the-mic and the Rochester, NY emcee are longtime members of the prolific artist collective and have previously worked together various times, but this mini-album marks the first time the two embark on a full project. Most boom-bap enthusiasts should already be well acquainted with both Kev Brown and Hassaan Mackey: double threat Kev Brown already showcased his skills on microphones as well as production boards on countless releases and has been dubbed "king of basslines" by fans worldwide. In addition to his solo recordings Kev's credits include beats for heavyweights like Busta Rhymes, Biz Markie, De La Soul, Jazzy Jeff, and Marley Marl just to name a few, as well as handling entire album production for LMNO, Kaimbr, and Raw Poetic. Hassaan Mackey released a string of albums, including a full-length LP with Apollo Brown, and appearances on releases by Oddissee, Kaimbr, The Left and L'Orange.

Recorded during a series of impromptu bus and train trips Hassaan took from Rochester to visit Kev in Washington, "That Grit" was created with a spontaneous approach, reflecting both Mackey's freestyle background and Brown's proven "random joints" formula. Entirely produced by Kev Brown and featuring his signature bassline-driven and raw but soulful sound, "That Grit" consists of an intro, eight full-length tracks and six instrumentals. Hassaan and Kev share mic duties on most of the songs, inviting close friends/frequent collaborators Kaimbr, Toine, yU, Kenn Starr, Eye-Q, Asheru (of Unspoken Heard) as well as the Younger Soul Brother Grap Luva along as feature guests, turning the record into a true family affair.

What I'm Watching: A-Class - "That Shit Right" (Prod. by Tom Delay Beats)

Dope track by A-Class here with "That Shit Right". He poses a lot of questions for those on the other side of his mic while holding his own lyrically. Peep the visuals then make sure you check that album out too.

Nightwriter is A-Class’s 3rd Brake Fast Records’ release, produced entirely by Tom Delay Beats. Although the pair has worked closely together throughout the years, this is first time Class has spit exclusively on Tom Delay’s production for an entire project.

A-Class is a battle rap veteran who has consistently provided a stream of exceptional music, even before he stepped on the battle scene. In the Grind Time and KOTD rings, he has faced the likes of Dizaster, Rone, Madness, Tantrum, and Sonny Bamboo. He remains a fierce opponent in the battle circuit and continues to travel the world squaring up with some of the scene’s best.

The composition of the Nightwriter EP primarily documents A-Class’s experiences on the road and in between battles, much of it having been written during about his expeditions, as well as about them. The progressive emcee continues to develop his customary free-flowing rhyme construction and unconventional flows around some catchy hooks, which is largely deviant from the unorthodox structure of Class’s previous recorded work.

Tom Delay Beats’ phonic background for the 7 song EP is expanse, ranging from bass heavy joints like “Bitch What You Talkin Bout” and “Kenny Lofton” to the funky-sounding sampling found on “Bus To NYC” and true school bangers like “Super Fat Laces”. Tom Delay structures the overall sound of Nightwriter with clean, addictive melodies and heavy drums that allow A-Class to display his rhythmic abilities.

Devine Carama - "Glorious Dartz & Soundscapes" (Prod. by Eianjay of Beat Addictz) / "Believing In Forever" (Album)

Devine released his album recently and if you copped the physical copy, there were two bonus tracks he threw on it. He was cool enough to hit us up with one of them here, which only strengthens the sound of what already is a good album. So yeah, check this out and then peep the album after the jump.

Devine Carama's Thoughts on Believing In Forever

"Believing In Forever is a motivational speech to young MCs coming into the game. In this instant gratification generation that often forgets it's linage and those that laid the path before them, this album is a reminder to them that integrity wins in the end. The theme of this album goes beyond the scope of just a rapper's plight. We all often struggle between our passion and getting paid, what we love and making a living, our purpose and our priorities. Just trying to balance it all out. But at the end of the day if you stay true to your culture, your craft, your purpose, and give your all you WIN regardless of the outcome. This album is about not investing in things that are temporary but rather believing in forever."

Download: Allen Poe - "How Gardens Grow"

Finally getting to the homie's latest album in "How Gardens Grow" and it's pretty much what I expected for the hard working Hip-Hop story teller. A lot of journeys, ups and downs, and fun memories are poetically reminisced about over soulful, head nod causing, extra chill production that fits his flow nicely. For an album like this that'll cost you no more than $Free.99, it's hard to find something to claim about in Hip-Hop. But don't take my word for it. Go get you this good music!

Though it's not spelled out as a conceptual album, How Gardens Grow was put together in a way that illustrates the growth a person goes through from early 20's through early 30's.

Download: Childish Gambino - "Gangsta Grillz Presents: STN MTN"

New mixtape by Gambino, hosted by DJ Drama, titled "STN MTN". It's short for Stone Mountain, where he was raised in Georgia. Put all that together and you get the idea of what this mixtape sounds like. Go check it out and then keep an eye out for that Kauai EP he'll be releasing.

“The Gangsta Grillz mixtape is sort of like — it’s a dream. And the dream ends when I wake up in Kauai. And they go into each other — it’s one complete project. You can download the mixtape, and you can go buy the EP. The money from the EP goes to help with keeping Kauai clean, and also helps with getting audio and visual device for cops policy.” says Gambino.

Download: MacGuyver - " SummerBreak Vol.2 (Back 2 School)"

MacGuyver drops a quick 7 track EP to get you motivated for his upcoming album with this second installment to his mixtape series. Summer isn't quite over yet and with the temperature getting back to normal for now, it's a perfect time to download this joint and travel through the mind of MacGuyver during his summer break and vibe to the stories he's spitting on this. Check it.
Prolific lyricist MacGuyver drops the second body of work in his "Summer Break" mixtape series. The first tape dropped a year ago and provided the people with alternatives to the commercial hype most summer singles tend to provide. MacGuyver's lyrics are poignant and thought provoking yet relative to all walks of life. The success and positive feedback from the previous edition has prompted him to give the people more of what they want this summer with "Summer Break Vol. 2 (Back 2 School)". He has spared no expense with choice beats and smooth cadence. His flow is reminiscent of early New York favorites yet his heart and talents lie right here in the DMV. The beauty of this precursor is that the addiction will not have a chance to grow cold. His album "Immaculate" is set to drop early 2015. In the meantime, pacify yourself with dope beats, dope lyrics, and that original summertime feeling. Unscrew the hydrants, fire up the grill one last time, and blast "Summer Break Vol. 2 (Back 2 School)".

Download: Full Blast Movement - "High Volume"

FULL BLAST!!!!!! The movement is here and they dropped a 16 track project on you like it ain't nothing. The album showcases various different styles from the Full Blast affiliates plus verses from Vast Aire, Bizarre of D12, Billy Danze of M.O.P., Cappadonna of Wu-Tang, and a few other talented CT natives so there's practically something here for everyone. Anytime these cats get together in a project like this, it feels like it's their All-Star Game. I sense a lot of friendly competition here as they bring their A game to the studio on this one. Don't believe me? Check for yourself. Peep it and make sure you cop the download. They also have CDs on deck. Just hit them up online.

With a couple of features in 5:am, Seme Rock with the beatboxing, and DJ Mo Niklz on the cuts, Expertiz and Cre808 deliver such a fun to love and easy to put on repeat type of project that you have no choice but to support.
