Download: Allen Poe - "How Gardens Grow"

Finally getting to the homie's latest album in "How Gardens Grow" and it's pretty much what I expected for the hard working Hip-Hop story teller. A lot of journeys, ups and downs, and fun memories are poetically reminisced about over soulful, head nod causing, extra chill production that fits his flow nicely. For an album like this that'll cost you no more than $Free.99, it's hard to find something to claim about in Hip-Hop. But don't take my word for it. Go get you this good music!

Though it's not spelled out as a conceptual album, How Gardens Grow was put together in a way that illustrates the growth a person goes through from early 20's through early 30's.

Allen Poe - "Shrines From Dust" (Prod. by Amerigo Gazaway)

Poe's 3rd Single from his next record "How Gardens Grow" due to release in October. Should be a pretty good project. I'm definitely anticipating adding it to my rotation.

"This goes to MCs who didn't hop in and out of 'rap'. Holding Hip-Hop in a higher regard, allowed them to ride out the highs and lows of creating, respecting it as a craft helped them to build something from very little." - Allen Poe

How Gardens Grow will release mid October, more details on the release coming soon. S/O Amerigo Gazaway on the production and PJ Katz on the mix/master.

Allen Poe x Moteleola "Symmetry & Shade"

Allen Poe, 1/3 of the Kentucky Basement Up crew, links up with one of my go-to beat makers Moteleola, the homie out of the UK. I definitely dig their collaborative effort. Enjoy the quick ep, that's definitely worth the listen. Chea!

What I'm Watching: Allen Poe - "Live From The Pub"

Allen Poe, 1/3 of Basement Up, is chill. I dig his music. Check out this video for a track off his "Pocket Full of Ohms" album.

He says "Live From The Pub is told from my perspective while performing at a hole in the wall type venue, where the crowd is there to unwind first and pay attention to whoever is on the bill second. Brock Berrigan provides a jazzy soundscape."

Download: Allen Poe - "Pocket Full of Ohms"

Allen Poe has definitely come a long way from a few of the singles he'd hit me up with back in the day. I can hear the growth in this album and the hard work. For a free album, you're pretty much getting a bargain and a half because I could easily see myself coppin' this joint for some bucks. Good music here.

Pocket Full Of Ohms, clearly a play on UGK's classic Pocket Full of Stones, is a record that attempts to account for my coming of age in what many consider hip hop's golden age (the 90's) and how hip hop influenced me, not as an artist, but as a man.

This record features production by J57, Nemo Achida, Foreign Allegiance, Brock Berrigan, Cody Jordan, Lofidel and ILL CLINTON among others. Featured artists include Von Pea, yU, Sheisty Khrist, Emma Shaheen, Basement Up and others.

Allen Poe - "Know What I've Got" (prod. by J57)

The 3rd single off the upcoming album "Pocket Full Of Ohms", is a current look at and reflection of who I am as an artist, where I've come from, what I aspire for, frustrations I've experienced, and the cost of my pursuit for the love of being an MC to my personal life.

Allen Poe - "Gina" ft Basement Up & Von Pea (produced by Nemo Achida)

Finally playing a little catch up on some music with this smooth, summer feeling, upbeat joint by the homie Allen Poe (1/3 of KY's MC trio Basement Up). With Von Pea of Tanya Morgan assisting on the mic, "Gina", produced by Nemo Achida, comes as Allen's first single off his upcoming LP "Pocket Full of Ohms" set to release Fall 2013. As Allen Poe puts it, "It is a comedic recounting of the frustrations of high school nerds misfiring with the ladies." Check it.
