To round out the week, here's Friday's Throwback Video of the Day. For those of you who are staying in tonight, I'm sure you can appreciate this. Play song responsibly! Ha. Without further ado, here's R. Kelly's chart topping "Bump n' Grind" off of 1994 album 12 Play. We'll be back with another week's worth of throwbacks May 9th! Until then...
So we're back with Thursday's Throwback of this week. I finally took it out of that great year for music, 1996, and took it to the 80s. Songs tend to just pop into my head and this seemed like a fantastic next to last song for this week's series. Tina Turner is a fabulous woman. Her raspy, sultry voice will be forever recognizable and who wouldn't want those legs?! Off her 5th solo album, here is Tina Turner's "Private Dancer" off of the 1984 album with the same name. Enjoy!
Here's a project E and I have been talking about doing for a while. Finally, we got our first episode done! It's gonna compliment Q's Hip-Hop Breakfast with R&B, Soul, Funk, Reggae, etc., and we'll hit you up with it once a week, at the end of the week in the evenings. Something to get you ready for your weekend. Hit play and enjoy.
01. Raheem DeVaughn - My Wife
02. Robin Thicke - Got 2 Be Down ft Faith Evans
03. R. Kelly - Number One Hit
04. Noel Gourdin - Beautiful
05. Olivier Daysoul - Foolish
06. Mint Condition - I Want It
07. Miguel - Sure Thing
My apologies for rolling these out so late! I let my week get away from me, so I'll be posting Wednesday through Friday's TMB's Throwback Video of the Day throughout today... Now back to business.
If you have not jammed to this at somebody's house party, club, etc... you're completely losing. As the young kids say these days, "hustlin' backwards." Ha! Apparently I CANNOT get out of the year of 1996, so you'll have to forgive me. DJ Kool's most popular song to date, this is 1996 hit "Let Me Clear My Throat" featuring Doug E. Fresh and Biz Markie. Now get out of your emeffin' seat and get to jiggin'!
It's been a minute since I heard new music from Emperess. I honestly don't remember the last time I posted music from the DMV emcee. Well, she's back with a dope track featuring Hassani Kwess off her upcoming To Mr. Mosley w/Love, due out this summer. Enjoy "After The Mornin'" in the meantime. Chea!
I dig it. I would say more but this sums it up nicely - "PLEASE, DO NOT LISTEN TO THIS ALBUM AT ALL, UNLESS YOU ARE ON DRUGS, AND SURROUNDED BY THE OPPOSITE SEX. OTHERWISE YOU CANNOT UNDERSTAND THIS COMPOSITION."
Shouts to the homie Justin Ivey over at kevinnottingham.com for hitting me up with this compilation from New Orleans based DJ Jay Skillz. As you scan through the tracklist you'll notice a gang of familiar names from their features on TMB, like Lega-C, Heata Best and TheSekondElement to name a few. You gotta love quality music. Enjoy Spin Cycle.
The first time I heard Geeter rhyme, I was immediately impressed. He's currently working on an EP with Halifax producer Ritchcraft. He has that type of sound that needs to be heard. As Ritchcraft so perfectly put it, "he has a powerful voice and speaks on real issues." I'm definitely looking forward to the music.
Anyway, this week he decided to take the challenge. And we decided to do it a little differently, with the assist from Ritchcraft, Geeter answered five random questions on video. Enjoy.
Hometown: Montgomery, Alabama Current City: Halifax, N.S., canada How long have you been doing music: 11 years Discography: none Label: none Describe your music in five words or less: Real life
I purchase my fair share of music. Most of my purchases are for independent music too. I try to support when and where I can, considering I tell a lot of my readers to do it. There are a handful of folks however that can get me to cop an album based off of their music reputation alone. Soul Khan is one of those guys. After downloading for free.99 his last project, Soul Like Khan, I didn't hesitate to purchase his latest DeeJay Element produced offering, Acknowledgement. I listened to about 20 seconds of the first track and knew it was a must buy. There's been a lot of Brown Bag AllStar features this week and Acknowledgement was one that I was looking forward to. With four main tracks, two bonuses and just one feature, Acknowledgement is a fine follow up to Soul Like Khan and should further establish Soul Khan as more than just a battle rapper. The project is a winner. Preview if you must but I highly recommend purchasing this project. Enjoy. Chea!
The homies The Doppelgangaz and those damn black cloaks. Ha! Another winner from the duo who spend more time at the brothel than me and OC. Lone Sharks coming Summer 2011. Enjoy the track and video. Chea!
The Underdogz (Warren Britt and OTiS CLaPP) deliver on their new project, with production mostly from Miles with Mr Vega, Willie Green, Spills, K.O. Beatz, Crown and Apatight lending production to the project. With features from PremRock, Top $ Raz, Ciph Diggy among others and a hilarious interlude from YC The Cynic, The Underdogz deliver a well executed project. I've played Wuttup Doe? straight through three times and have enjoyed it more each time. My favorite cuts on the project include "Ms Thang", "Guess Who", "Speakerwork", "Been A Long Time" and "Demons". Between the production, rhymes and over-all quality of this project, Wuttup Doe? is a winner. Get it or be left out. Enjoy. Chea!
SPEAK Easy is dope. But if you've spent anytime on the blog, you already know how I feel about the homie. SPEAK is one of my favorite heads out of the Milwaukee scene and his latest project, So To Speak, is definitely a winner. "More Fire" is one of many dope cuts from the project. Enjoy the KuMays directed video. Chea!
Damn, the Brown Bag AllStars are clearly putting in work. With a track on both the TMB Show and Hip-Hop Breakfast this week, a dope track released yesterday and Soul Khan's "Soul Like Khan" video release today and a new EP tomorrow, gotdamn.
A lot of dope cameos in the Brian Robinson directed video. And this is one of my favorite Khan tracks too. Shiiiit. Oh and whoa at the 2:29 mark too! As J57 puts it, "we're set to release his new EP tomorrow, so we figured we'd say good bye to the old album in style." Indeed they do it with great style. Enjoy the vid. Chea!
The homie e.d.g.e. is back with a dope video for the "Letters To The Editor" jawn off the TMB sponsored Fifteen Minutes of Fame project. Shouts to Jenkin Au for justalilhype on directing the vid. Fresh. Enjoy. Chea!
If you don't remember this then, I mean... I just can't do anything for you. Ha. Tag Team's 1993 hit spent seven weeks at number two on the Billboard Hot 100 and a week at number one on the US R&B Chart. Enjoy!
If you've even remotely paid a little bit of attention to the posts I've made over the last year, you'll know that I've taken on the philosophy of my fellow blogger-colleague, Q in that "If it doesn't get me excited, it doesn't get posted." I'm always appreciative when I get stuff in my inbox that is exceptional. And I can thank my other blogger-colleague, OC, for this one.
Her name is Natasha Ramos. She's out of Hartford, Connecticut and this girl is going places. If I were her manager, I would be more than proud of representing her. She's got the full package. The looks, the spark, and most importantly, the talent. According to her Myspace Music page, the genres she dabbles in are R&B, Soul and Pop. When listening to her tracks, she is able to blend all three perfectly, which in many cases, is very hard to accomplish. I took the liberty of uploading my favorite five songs of hers ("Feelin' Myself," "Who Needs You," "Midnight Hour," "Deeper," and "Running Out of Love.") to my Bandcamp. One thing I can say about Feelin' Myself is that you'll definitely have to download the entire thing because there's a certain flow and intermingling of the songs that can only be experienced by listening to it from beginning to end.
It would take forever for me to go through the songs I like and give you the blow by blow of why I like them, so my advice is to just download and press play. If I had one criticism, albeit a good criticism, it would be that the songs aren't long enough! It leaves me wanting more. If this is any preview of what her debut album will be like, I look forward to hearing and purchasing it when it comes to fruition.
If you don't know Natasha Ramos, I suggest you get familiar. I don't want 6 months to come and go and she blows up and y'all are like "OMG! Who is this girl and where did she come from? I love her." Ha! This time you don't have an excuse.
Download her full mix tape here and just press play. Enjoy.
I love music. There really is no secret there. Every day tons of projects drop and some aren't really worth the digital space they take up. In my opinion obviously. The folks featured in today's posts don't fall in that category. Quality music from quality musicians. Today, Fresh Daily, TheSeKondElement and The Brown Bag AllStars bring with them three great singles for three amazing projects. If you're not checking for 'em, I feel sorry for your musical collection. Ha! Enjoy the music and support the artists.
Fresh Daily returns with "Say Yes" off of The Quiet Life dropping May 3rd. Produced by Shuko and Fonty, this Fresh Daily track is straight head nod inducing. The homie Fresh Daily always brings the quality through his music. I'm definitely looking forward to The Quiet Life. You should be too. Also, look out for an interview with him coming soon to The Mad Bloggers Show. In the words of Fresh Daily "let this be your spring/summer anthem! It feels GOOOOOOOOD!" Chea!
TheSeKondElement has found herself on the blog a few times. There something about her sound, rooted in spoken word, that I've always appreciated it. "Heaven Sent" is the first single off The Korner of Ahmir & Hillman, due out released April 28. Inspired by their trip to SXSW, TheSekondElement teams up with drummer Bettis for a pretty fresh project. She describes the project simply as, "just me and Bettis jammin’, vibin’, doing what we do best together but usually on stage. Now fans can it home.” Enjoy "Heaven Sent" and keep your eyes and ears open for The Korner of Ahmir & Hillman.
Ever since exchanging a series of emails with J57 back when we booked Soul Khan for the IHD x TMB Independent's Day Showcase, he's been blessing my inbox with great cuts from Brown Bag AllStars members and affiliates. Earlier today J57 hit me up with the new Brown Bag AllStars cut "Crumbling Down" produced by Mr. Green. This shit right here? THIS SHIT RIGHT HERE? Yeah, it's dope. According to J57, "we're hard at work in the studio wrapping up our debut album (due out next year), so in the meantime we decided that we'll drop a double-disc project of rare & unreleased material on May 17." So, enjoy "Crumbling Down" leading up to their May 17th drop. Chea!
Every time I post something from Theo Martins, I say he's dope. So, at this point, I guess it goes without saying how I feel about Theo's music. Ha! After a few pics providing a sneak peek at this video, Theo released the visuals for "Up & Away" yesterday. Enjoy the latest off of Theo Martins Sincerely Yours, The Dance Floor. Chea!
The homie Adebisi is like family. I've been handling a bit of his digital game and TMB just co-sponsored his latest mixtape The Blaxploitation, which you should DEFINITELY have in your life right now. Ha!
Anyway, Adebisi linked up with SigNif (yes, the NYC by way of Milwaukee emcee) and shot a video last week with Sig getting her John Singleton on by directing, shooting and editing the visuals for "Fuck the Dollar." Put together in just 24 hours, the video is for one of my favorite tracks on The Blaxploitation. The homie is definitely very talented. Look out for more music coming soon. In the meantime, enjoy. Chea!
That boy Ritchcraft is talented. After featuring his 30 in 30 beat series, Ritchcraft is back with music from two dope emcees that he's currently working on projects with.
You might recall the Intalek and Ritchcraft project Lives and Vibes. Well, the duo are currently cooking up an EP as a follow up. I'm definitely looking forward to that.
On the other side is the newcomer Geeter, whose "Do It Now" was featured on last week's ep of The Mad Bloggers Show. The dude is dope and he and Ritchcraft are working on a project consisting of 5-6 tracks dropping at some point in May.
Both dope cuts with Ritchcraft on the production. Enjoy and look out for those projects dropping soon. Chea!
Deep, personal lyrics on "Untitled #1" from Has-Lo on this video to compliment it. Music can be therapy and few are talented enough to come through on a track this good while expressing emotions this close to home. Check out the video then definitely get the album. Quality music.
Untitled #1 (Hold On), was directed by Antonio Battle who also came up with the visual concepts. The song is one of the most autobiographical on the entire album. With the passing of Has-Lo's Grandmother the video's cemetery scene was meant to match the track's lyrival content and emotive weight.
Here's a couple of dope videos from the homie K-Beta that I received in my email. I was so busy hitting play over and over that I forgot to post this. Haha. Dude is nice on the mic. Catches my attention lyrically. Album out today. Check it.
New single & video from DMV Music Award-winning artist K-Beta's debut album, Inglorious Beta. Directed by Backie T. for Cool Kids Forever Films.
Inglorious Beta (Grande Deluxe) available Tuesday 4/26 at all major retail outlets!
Y'all... if you don't love this man, I can't have respect for you. Ha! In the spirit of me trying to learn Busta's verse in "Look At Me Now," which I've almost completely mastered, by the way, I wanted to pay homage to the one of the King's of Hip-Hop. Pre-haircut, *jumps up in the air* "WOO HAH!! Got You All In Check," off of 1996 solo debut album, The Coming. P.S. 1996 was an excellent year for music. Enjoy.
Every now and again I get a dope track early and as soon as I hit play I want to share it with the world. But I have to hold back. I've had this cut, as well as a few others from Brooklyn emcee L.A.'s upcoming project The LA Riots, for a minute. I'm honored to be in L.A.'s circle of folks she trusts to hear the music early. I'm hyped that I'm finally able to share this jawn with you.
Following up her successful debut The Presentation, L.A. is in full prep mode for the Hippie Sabotage produced project The LA Riots. Based on a few of the cuts that I've heard, this project is gonna be ridiculous. Look for the drop at some point in May. In the meantime enjoy "To Fear' featuring Melodi J. Chea!
Breez comes through with this one track mix getting us ready for his upcoming project and this joint is pretty beneficial to my listening pleasure. Track after track, he delivers quality lyrics with production that seems to fit perfectly to his style. Definitely check this joint out. It's FOR THE FREE!!!

He showed up rocking a hoodie, denim jacket and his Beats by Dre headphones. Jessica asked, "are you here for the showcase?" He gave a nod. But 100 Grand was there for more than watching the acts, he wanted to participate in the open mic we had scheduled for the evening. He had seen the info via a tweet and was the first to arrive to ensure his spot on the list.
Once he stepped on the mic, he said his name enough times that you would remember who he was long after his one track. The next day we exchanged a few emails and it dawned on me that back in February I peeped his video for "Carrie". I thought the dude was fresh.
The Queens rapper definitely has a dope sound and so on a late pass I'm sharing some of his music with you. Check out "Dont Say Nothing" plus the "Carrie" video. Who knows, you might see him at an upcoming Independent's Day Showcase rocking a full set. Chea!
It's Thursday and I have four dope videos for you that I've bumped into on the Internets or caught via email. Today, you get a solid offering from Has-Lo, the young Brandon Thomas, Foreign Legion and Camp Lo. Enjoy the videos after the jump. Chea!
From talking about inspirational quotes, the upcoming album The Crystal Meth, and why he doesn’t want to been seen as a pothead. I was really excited to sit down with Method Man, right after his exhilarating performance.
It’s a beautiful thing when Classified is your hype man and repeating the slogan, “This is The Come Up Show. Where That Feel Good Music Lives. Real Recognize Real.” This must be interview number 35092148932 and this time around Class breaks down why he chose the title Handshakes and Middle Fingers for his album. The struggle to smoke up or not, how his wife introduced him to Mary Jane and why he thought he was a one hit wonder. As always we got some superb live footage of That Ain’t Classy show at the London Music Hall.
It’s safe to say Kidz In The Hall LOVE Canada and why wouldn’t they? They opened up for Classified all across Canada for That Ain’t Classy Tour. In our interview they tell me about our Canadian women, new reality show, and a big change in how people perceive them musically. Birthday boy Mic Boyd makes an appearance to brag about their paintball competition win against Classified team.
KHillmusic x Depth Of Sound presents the visuals to K-Hill’s current single “The Declaration Of An Independent”. The single, which features spoken word artist Dasan Ahanu and produced by fellow NC producer, Picasso, sets the tone for K-Hill’s upcoming ep release, “Motivational Speakers”. The video was filmed by Kent Willard with additional Filming by J “Water” Mullins.
Oh yes. This is what I'm talking about. New track by Random Axe. I've been waiting and I know this album will be straight fire. Guilty Simpson, Sean Price and Black Milk?!?!?! What?! This track is produced by Black Milk. There is no complaints about this track at all to me. Dopeness. Check it.
It was a unanimous decision to post this. Q said he always liked Guante's work. EMS says it got her a little emotional. I had to watch it on repeat. Very strong poem. Very dope poem. Hit play, turn your volume up, listen then put your fucking hands up!
Duece Bug hit me up with his new video for "Stress Love". Full Blast is definitely in full effect. Check it.

"The EP is more aggressive, in-your-face. It's about me standing my ground as a female emcee who refuses to back down even when confronted with adversity." - SigNif.
SigNif has been on the blog more times than I can remember. Her sound is dope and I've long supported her music.
I've been hearing bits and pieces of this Gee Wiz produced Significant Wizdom EP over the last few months and I'm happy to finally hear it in it's complete form and share it with all of you. Gee Wiz does his gotdamn thing on the production and SigNif delivers more of an aggressive flow on the new project. Having worked together on SigNif's The Transition, the duo take that chemistry to deliver eight dope tracks. There should be no doubt that SigNif is formidable emcee after hearing this project. Enjoy the hell out of this. Chea!
I've been rocking to this Shane Eli project for a few days and then it dawned on me that I hadn't posted it up. Oops. Ha!
Shane has been featured on the blog a few times with his work, as well as a features with other TMB favorites. His new project, I Can Do Better is dope. Having heard a few of the tracks prior to it's release I knew the project would be quality. Ya'll know I don't usually endorse projects over 15 tracks but Shane's 19 (which includes a few intros) on I Can Do Better is worth the listen.
Jump over to DJBooth.net, preview the project and if you dig it, download it. Below is one of my favorite cuts, "Guillotine." Enjoy. Chea!
Jessica Kaya has been featured on the blog a few times. Her sister, who happens to be one of my favorite rappers, Eternia put me on to her music. I haven't been disappointed. Jessica has a beautiful voice and in her project Imperfections she delivers what she calls "a collection of raw, unmixed demo's & draft songs, recorded at home and released in their unfinished & imperfect form." The words. The music. The sound. All beautiful in it's imperfect form. I dig it. Hit play and enjoy the smooth sound of Jessica Kaya.
I'm back on schedule up in this beyotch. Ha! Check out five fresh videos I've bumped into on the Internets or caught via email. Today, you get a solid offering from G-Swagg, Scienze, C-Plus, Moka Only and El Gant. Enjoy the five dope videos after the jump. Chea!
"Shake It Easy" featuring Peter Hadar is the fourth video off of Donwill's LP "Don Cusack in High Fidelity." The album is currently available for purchase.
Last week I got the great opportunity to meet and interview LA emcee Skeme. We talked about how he got his name, upcoming tracks with Ro Blvd., the video for "What I Deserve", details on what his next video will be, what to expect from further "Road To The Statement" videos, the official features and producers on "The Statement" and the latest news on the Sox Gang.
Good morning and welcome to another ep of Hip-Hop Breakfast. Ep 50 delivers seven dope tracks just 30 seconds over 20 minutes. Hope you enjoy. Chea!
01. G-Eazy - Waspy
02. Shane Eli - I Love You (Kinda)
03. YC The Cynic - The Harder
04. Donnis feat. Dev- Ring My Bell
05. Recess - Emperor Strikes Back
06. Big K.R.I.T. - R4 Theme Song
07. Maticulous feat. Brown Bag AllStars - The Hulk
Thanks to Fresh Daily for putting me on to this dope project from Green Street (Emcees A-Live and Soupa and beatsmith Renaissance). You gotta love when quality music arrives in your inbox. With features from Eric Sosa, Fresh Daily, Oddisee and more, Don't Look Down is a smooth project well worth a few spins. I hope you enjoy it like I did. Chea!
This project has shown up in my inbox a few times. Vulkan the Krusader comes with some co-signs from a few folks I respect musically on the underground scene but my opinion has never been based on a co-sign. Ha!
Anyway, I finally got around to listening to the project. It's cool. I dig most of it but I wish it was less than 22 tracks because it took me a little while to process so much music. There's definitely quality here though. But you tell me what you think down in the comment section.
15 years. That's how long it has been since Maxwell's first albumbecame available to us all. What a journey! And oh how we missed him during that 8 year stint of absence from the music scene. I know I sure did. Maxwell is the King of Neo-soul. I dare anyone to say otherwise. Everything about this man is beautiful! The vocals, the lyrics, pre-hair cut. Everything. And besides, how on Earth would any of us get these babies here without him? Ha! (Side Note: I am not responsible for any children made during the listening of this song). I've experienced nothing but greatness from Maxwell even with only 4 albums under his belt; and I hope he continues to bless us with his music in the years to come. Off the 1996 debut album Urban Hang Suite "...Til the Cops Come Knockin'" is definitely something you can chill to, have that glass of red wine and cap off your evening. I encourage you all to do just that. Enjoy the song and the rest of your Friday night.
We'll be back with the 3rd installment of TMB's Throwback Video of the Day, April 25th. Until then...
Episode 31, baby! You know what to do you if you wanna laugh your ass off and then nod your head to dopeness in between. Check it.

The sixth Independent's Day Showcase came and went on April 13th. If you were there, you were one of the many that bugged out with us to some dope acts at Southpaw as well as DJ Jon Blak's skills on the turntables. If you weren't, well, I don't know what to tell you. But.....I got pictures to show ya. Haha. Check these out by clicking "Read More". Aight? Aight!
Who doesn't miss her? You just can't help it. And no matter how hard they try, the music industry will not and cannot 'create' another Aaliyah. It's impossible. So in honor of her legacy and how we all thought of her, here is "One In A Million" off of 1996 album with the same name. Enjoy.
As the person who usually does interviews, I always find it odd to be on the other end being interviewed. Well, a week ago through TMB contributor Steph, Dan of Two Piece and A Biscuit reached out to me about being interviewed about The Mad Bloggers, the state of Hip-Hop and Hip-Hop in general. I was humbled by the offer. It was a pretty cool 13 minute conversation with some great questions. Check out what a brother had to say over at twopieceandabiscuit.blogspot.com. Chea!
