I'm starting to really enjoy these videos more and more each day. I caught the latest offering a little late from Ritchcraft but here it is nonetheless. Check out my day 15 interview with Ritchcraft here. Also get the back story on Ritchcraft's 30 in 30 here. Enjoy day 16. Chea!
Honestly, I already thought that this Lyriciss track off his upcoming project was dope. Sometimes you hear a track and you're like, "yeah, this doesn't need anything else because it's fresh." That's how I felt about "Superbad." But then I heard my homegirl L.A. was gonna jump on an extended mix of the track and I was excited to hear that. This Superbad extended mix is insane. L.A. matches the intensity of Lyriciss' well laid verses, with a super aggressive flow. Lyriciss is dope and there's no secret I'm an L.A. fan (#NoLakers). Hit play and enjoy this joint. Chea!
Chuuwee and J.Good are two dope emcees out of the Cali Hip-Hop scene. Check out the Jonathan Lowell produced track off of Chuuwee and Lowell's upcoming Be Cool. Hit play and enjoy the smooth soul-sampled "My Place." Be Cool, coming soon. Chea!
I caught this video featuring Jinesis a few nights back. Serringe (artist and graf head) has been sitting down with up-coming musicians and spotlighting them for his website. Check out the latest video featuring the Bronx producer Jinesis. The beats are fresh. One of my favorites drops around the 3:55 mark. The other drops around 5:38. Let that boy cook! Ha! Jinesis is dope. Enjoy.
YC The Cynic clearly has a dope rhyme book. On the eve of the release of his latest offering, Fall Fwd, YC drops off the Steel Tipped Dove produced "Unconscious" track. Dope. Dope like the rest of the project. You may have to run this one back a few times to really appreciate the word play. I can't wait for ya'll to hear Fall Fwd when it drops tomorrow. It's impressive. With so much music dropping daily, a project is all about repeatability. Fall Fwd is on it's 10th play with me. Fall Fwd March 1st. Enjoy "Unconscious" in the meantime. Chea!
I can NOT wait for Pharoahe Monch's next album to drop. Every solo effort on his part has been unequivocally dope. Never disappoints me. Check out this quick warning.
Pharoahe Monch W.A.R. (We Are Renegades) album officially out March 22nd.
"The Warning," directed by Todd Angkasuwan, also contains a portion of Pharoahe Monch's title track, W.A.R. featuring Immortal Technique.
Pharoahe Monch W.A.R. (We Are Renegades) is a 13-track album with an eclectic mix of feature artists such as Jill Scott, Styles P, Immortal Technique, Vernon Reid, Citizen Cope, Phonte, Jean Grae, Mr. Porter, Idris Elba, Royce Da 5'9" & more. The album has production from Marco Polo, M-Phazes, Diamond D, Exile, Pharoahe Monch himself & more.
About a month or so ago Halifax, Canada producer Ritchcraft told me about his ambitious project to put out 30 beats in 30 days (30 in 30) as a lead up to his visit to South By Southwest (SXSW) this year. Simply put, he wanted to introduce more folks to his production style to lay down a bit of a foundation for his trip to Texas to network and connect when music makers from around the world descend on Austin.
I thought the concept was dope.
So, The Mad Bloggers being longtime supporters of Ritchcraft's work were committed to a post per day to share his beats. I haven't been disappointed yet. The kid is talented.
15 days in with 15 days to go, I sat down with Ritchcraft to talk about the project a little bit. Check out our Q&A and day 15's video after the jump.
Welcome to another week of dope videos including a special pick from TMB's OC Supreme. Again hit me at readbeanpie@gmail.com to have your video considered. Enjoy!
Another dope cut from J. Good's upcoming Look on the Brightside project. The new project features TiRon, Ayomari, El Prez and more. In the latest preview from the project, "Change My Ways", the Sacramento emcee is joined by Von Pea (Tanya Morgan) and L.E.G.A.C.Y. (Justus League). The track was produced by T.U.S. (The Usual Suspects) brethren Tellapath. With cuts from DJ Jun, this track is definitely a winner. Enjoy. Chea!
Eternia is dope. If you've been following the blog for long enough, you know I'm a fan of her work. While surfing around youtube, I discovered these two vids featuring Eternia with Colin Dean Live at Joe's Pub in NYC. The video above is a solo set of "Akasha" with Eternia. Below is "Rebel" featuring Maya Azucena, Eternia and Hasan Salaam. I'm a sucka for a live band and a dope Hip-Hop jazz fusion. That's what you get out of both videos. Fresh. Sit back and enjoy. Chea!
Colin Dean on Bass, Rachel Z on Piano, Colin Stranahan on Drums, Sean Nowell on Sax. Filmed and Edited by Noisemaker Media. Cameras: Mark Carranceja and Justin Denmark. Courtesy of Joe's Pub at the Public Theater NYC.
On day 13, we find my second favorite beat in the 30 in 30 series. Fresh! Get the back story on Ritchcraft's 30 in 30 here and peep day 13. Enjoy. Chea!
Checked the inbox to find DJ Priority hitting us up with this project. Him and Venomous 2000, both out of my birth state New Jersey, come strong on this album with a style your speakers and ears are gonna dig. I've added two videos here, with Amazingly Fresh being one of my favorite cuts off the album. I definitely enjoy this entire joint. Support. Check it out.

J.Period, John Legend, The Roots and a bunch of other legendary folks on this mix Period put together. How can you not be interested?! Download now. It's free.
Hot on the heels of John Legend & The Roots' Grammy-winning night, Truelements presents the first single release from WAKE UP! RADIO -- an epic collaboration between Black Thought, John Legend, and the God MC himself, Rakim -- "In the Ghetto (Wake Up!)" Produced by J.Period, this history-making digital 12" release pairs two of hip hop's most legendary MC's together on wax for the first time, with a soulful finale from R&B superstar, John Legend. Revisiting the themes of the Eric B. & Rakim original, "In the Ghetto (Wake Up!)" shines a new light on ghetto life to reveal that some things may have changed, but many more remain the same.
On January 25, 2011, the nation of Egypt erupted as the peaceful demonstrations against President Hosni Mubarak were met with armed resistance from Egypt's army. This was the beginning of Egypt's Revolution.
In the midst of the revolution, Arabian Knightz (comprised Rush, Sphinx and E-Money) released two singles, “Rebel” and “Not Your Prisoner”, that became anthems of resistance, gaining worldwide attention for their powerful lyrics and impassioned spirit against a wicked political system. Rush was in Tahrir Square daily with his people, E-Money held down his city, while Sphinx was forced to leave the country for the safety of his family amidst the gunfire and chaos.
I recently sat down with Rush to discuss Arabian Knightz, Hip-Hop and the revolution in Egypt. Check out our conversation after the jump.
Late last night DMV's own The Real Jay Mills hit me with her latest track. It's fresh. Check out "Haters Make Me Famous." I guess she has something to say, but the haters remain nameless. Ha! Look out for SummerMadness Vol 2. In the meantime enjoy this track. Chea!
I dig the homie Hump Jones sound. And couple that with the killer production of Willie Green and this track is a clear winner. As if that's not enough, then you throw in the fact that this joint is a posse cut featuring Pro from The Aztext, Mohrer Les and Zilla Rocca and you're in grand slam territory. I definitely dig this track. The folks over at World Around Records do a great job putting out quality music and this Humpasaur Jones vs. Willie Green track is a clear example. Hit play. Enjoy. Chea!
Keno is one of those Sacramento rap cats that are killing it lyrically right now. He's been a long time favorite with The Mad Bloggers with his solo work, as well as his material with theOTHERSIDE (with producer Sauce Fonda). He's teamed up with producer Rufio. Rufio makes dope beats. If you remember Rufio was the dude who's project, The Edgewater, we posted back in October. The Edgewater was a project Rufio completed during a visit to Wisconsin with Haz Solo. Anyway, Keno and Rufio are putting out a new project, For Those Who Are Still Sleeping, soon and have dropped off the first preview from that project. Hit play and enjoy "Figure Four." Chea!
Better late than never, right? Ha! The dunks make up for it though. Look out for a mini interview with Ritchcraft coming on day 15. In the meantime, get the back story on Ritchcraft's 30 in 30 here and peep day 12. Enjoy. Chea!
Shit right here if fire. Connecticut's own Apathy and the legendary DJ Premier. Gaaaaaaa damn.
New music from Apathy, his new album "Honkey Kong" coming this spring with DJ Premier, DJ Muggs, Evidence, Stu Bangas and Da Beatminerz on the boards (among many others).
Go 'head and look at the bearded mofo in a FILA sweatshirt getting a shape up and walking in the cold streets without a coat. He probably thinks he looks sharp or some shit. And of course this negro raps. He's aiight. Ha!
Nah, Dremur is a cool dude who makes some pretty fresh music. I met Dremur last summer in Brooklyn. It was just a few weeks after I had posted his Jinesis produced "Asian Lover" track featuring Scienze. I like Dremur and his music. He's currently in full promo mode for his upcoming sophomore album, One Step Away Miles To Go. From what I've heard, it's gonna be a winner. Look out for the project due to drop March 14. In the meantime, enjoy these promo videos and this negro Dremur being all deep and prolific and shit. Ha!
Jesse Abraham is a cool guy. The first time we met in person was at a show in Bridgeport, CT. He was on the bill with Sketch Tha Cataclysm and Top $ Raz. Before our meeting on that cold Saturday night, I had posted a few of his tracks and videos.
I walked up to him and said, "what up Jesse?" We shook hands and he gave me the head nod and both of us went about enjoying the show.
It wasn't until two hours later that he realized who I was. He was sitting at a table with me, OC Supreme, Jessica Estevez of iHeartDilla.com and Top $ and was like, "wait, ya'll The Mad Bloggers? You're ThroatChopU?" I laughed and said yeah.
"I saw your business cards all over the place but didn't make the connection until right now," he said.
When you're covering folks on your blog and only talk via gchat, twitter and email, it's cool to finally meet in person. It was great to meet Jesse.
Jesse is one of those hardworking emcees that appreciates feedback and being heard. When I saw him a week or so ago at the Independent's Day Showcase, the first thing I did was thank him for coming out. We then proceeded to talk about much I enjoyed his latest video, "Spiderman On Vitamins." We talked a little about the cameos in the video and the kids and how personal the video felt. Since it was a cool video and I wanted to pass that on.
As I needed to turn my attention to some logistical details of the show, Jesse ended the convo with, "man, I really appreciate the feedback." And in typical form, I replied "no doubt."
I dig what Jesse Abraham does. Anyway, check out his Best Buy in store performance of "Spiderman On Vitamins" and "Yoga." Plus check out the bonus video for his upcoming The One Day EP. Enjoy. Chea!
YC The Cynic, Soul Khan, Von Pea and Sene destroy on this track. It's impossible to pick a favorite verse. With the lead off by YC it's tough to follow until Soul Khan hits. At which point you think you've heard the best. Nah, Von Pea and Sene on the backend of the track bring it home. I liken the verses on this track to four quarters of basketball and each quarter these four emcees increase the lead by 20, with J57 coaching on the production.
Having heard the advance of Fall FWD, "More and More" is just the tip of the iceberg of dope tracks. With a few posse cuts and a strong offering of solo joints, what YC does with his latest offering, due out March 1st, is take a bold and serious step forward. Don't believe me now but be prepared for the I-told-you-so-face I hit you with when Fall FWD drops.
Quake and Kayo have both been featured on the blog in the past. Both are dope emcees. Together, they're putting out a 10 track EP, The Search, due out March 1st. This "Heavy" track produced by Cam Smith is fresh. Hit play and enjoy. Chea!
I probably can't say this enough places that Big K.R.I.T. is one of my favorite heads on the XXL Freshman cover and Yelawolf is the other. So, with that said check out the Travis Barker remix to K.R.I.T.'s "Something" and the live set with Yelawolf on his "Pop The Trunk" track. Both dope and Travis definitely brings more energy to two already fresh jawns. Enjoy. Chea!
Big K.R.I.T. "Something" (Travis Barker Remix)
Yelawolf ft. Travis Barker - Pop The Trunk at XS Nightclub
It took me a minute to get around to posting this joint that Theo Martins released a few days ago. First let me say that Theo is dope and since discovering his sound a year ago, I've been a fan. The dude always impresses me every time he drops something new. He's definitely one of my favorite people making music right now. Theo's sound is unique and he makes music that not only he enjoys but that you can also enjoy too. This Starf*cker featured track is fresh. This cut is off the upcoming Sincerely Yours, The Dance Floor. Hit play and enjoy. Chea!
"We are fighting for not only our rights here in Wisconsin, but for the rest of the country's as well!"
TMB has been a long time supporter of the Milwaukee Hip-Hop scene, which includes our good friend Melissa Czarnik. Yesterday she sent us this track she recently wrote about the situation in Wisconsin. If you're unaware, the situation going on in Wisconsin is serious and you should be paying attention.
There's a lot going on but at the center of the protests, "the Wisconsin budget proposed by Republican Governor Scott Walker includes cuts in benefits for state workers and takes away many of their collective bargaining rights."
This could be happening right in your backyard. You should definitely be up on things, whether you're in Wisconsin or not. I dig the message within Melissa's song. Wisconsin, stand strong.
He leaned over and said, "you're Q, The Mad Bloggers?" I hit him with a head nod acknowledging it was me. He reached into his book bag and handed me his cd.
"I'm just a regular guy who makes music," he said. "If you like it, cool. If you don't, I'd like to know."
I could barely hear everything OTiS CLaPP said in the Down South space at Southpaw in Brooklyn that plays host to our monthly Independent's Day Showcase with iHeartDilla.com. But it was something about the humility in what I could hear that impressed me.
Often times folks boast about how they're the best and talk up every feature and producer on their project without prompt. They'll talk to you until your ear practically falls off. Then you get home, reach in your pocket and pull out the cd and not really feel compelled to listen to the music because you believe there is no way that it could be as good as the artist hyped it up to be. A lot of folks don't realize that there is a thin line between confidence and arrogance.
So, when I pulled OTiS' cd out when I got home, I wanted to hear it because of how he presented it. In OTiS' case, he spoke very little about the project and it was clear he wanted to let his music speak for him.
Indeed it did.
I had heard the name OTiS CLaPP a few times prior to our meeting on that Wednesday night in Brooklyn. I saw his name featured on various projects from folks I was supporting musically. To be honest, I hadn't paid much attention to his music specifically until we booked him for the February showcase. I knew he was talented but I didn't know how much until I hit play on his latest project, Welcome II Nowhere.
Welcome II Nowhere is a clear example of quality over quantity. With just fifteen tracks (the perfect number to me), the project is a solid offering with features from Dremur, Top $ Raz, Erica Sosa and others. Then on the production side you have Miles, K.O. Beatz and others, and even some self-production from OTiS.
Welcome II Nowhere is dope. The production and storytelling on “The Whole Story” makes it my favorite cut on the project. Among other favorites, “Gifted”, “From My Hometown”, “Potency”, “I Smell Murder”, “Hometown Heroes” and “Rap Life.”
The Queens emcee is definitely talented. Gifted, if you will. Give Welcome II Nowhere a listen. If you dig it, support independent music and buy it.
We knew this time would come. This is the last preview from e.d.g.e.'s upcoming All Flow Everything. I mean, it's not like he can preview the whole thing. Right? Right. He's still committed to three tracks per week but one won't be coming from the project due to drop when it drops. Anyway, enjoy the Mootbooxle produced "Goldpieces." Fresh joint. Enjoy. Chea!
I feel like I was just saying yesterday how The Brownbag Allstars and the homie J57 continues to send great music my way in very clean and to the point emails (and we all know how much I like well presented emails, ha). Anyway, check out the El Gant track featuring J57 and Tek. The joint is dope. Press play and enjoy! Chea!
You can go ahead and call this operation cross promotion. Ha! On day 11 Ritchcraft goes a slightly different route, as his beat is playing in the background of the promo video for Kayo and Quake's upcoming project The Search. Get the back story on Ritchcraft's 30 in 30 here and peep day 11. Enjoy. Chea!
Check out Rarebreed's Savant with his latest joint. Hit us up with your thoughts.
Check point 3 of 2011... location: Chicago. Savant heads home and tabs the rising southside tandem R.J. & Technique for his most recent #CrashCourse leak, the "Cypher Pas De Trois". Forging a homage of sorts to one of hip hop's cornerstones, the cypher, the 3 emcees seamlessly trade bars over a beat box based, eargasm of an instrumental laced by Vancouver's rising sun, Ebrahim aka EebSoFresh.
Song Title: Cypher Pas De Trois
Producer: EebSoFresh
Vocals: Savant, R.J. and Technique
Off the highly anticipated T.H.C DZA gives u a taste of his lifestyle visually with "Ralph Lifshitz" directed by Slick Jackson. T.H.C is on the way till then be cool and enjoy... Rrrright
These are the kind of songs I want to get more of in the inbox. I'm sure EMS would agree. Chris Turner delivers with this smooth, bluesy, soul track here. I'm now in search of more of dude's music. This sounds so good. Check it.
Chris Turner The Soul Crooner currently on tour with Bilal, would like to present you live footage of a tune entitled "Come Off It" co-written by Jesse Boykins III soon to be released on his debut Album LOVEchild.
Feel free to lose yourself in the warmth of True Soul Music .. for more on Chris Turner Visit : http://amourchild.tumblr.com
This joint with these 3 MCs and production by Dilated People's DJ Babu come through on this so heavy. Definitely sounds like some theme music for some crazy action movie scene. It's about to go...dooooown! Haha. Fashawn, Buff1 and Scheme are definitely on their way. Hip-Hop for real. Check it.
It's odd how when someone returns from jail they return to more fanfare than someone who returns from college. What's up with that? It's odd that if a person goes off to school or takes pride in their education their accomplishments are brushed off with a "oh, this n-gga trying to be smart." What's up with that?
Our school system and community are both jacked.
Before my blogging days I was heavy into working with youth. For ages I worked with young people after school and during the summer. For a while I spent some time in a few inner city middle school classrooms getting young folk ready for high school and college, which included transitions and making decisions that were based on more than what their friends were doing or going. Sometimes that included decision making that wasn't popular among their peers.
I also spent some time working with youth in juvenile detention centers on the weekends.
During this same timeframe, I spent every afternoon running an after school program in suburbia as the director. I saw how differently young folks looked at education in those three settings. And how their parents looked at it. And how people from their surroundings looked at it. Some valued education. Some were just going through the motions.
At the end of every week I was exhausted.
Anyway, recently while cleaning up my music library I stumbled upon this track from TheSeKondElement. The Graduate (off of her The Kommencement LP) made me think about a lot of my experiences with youth. And the conversations we had about education. The Graduate is a powerful cut. I dig it. Join the debate down low in the comment section. In the meantime, hit play, enjoy.
Fresh artwork. Amazing production. Dope lyrics. And just the right amount of features. Top $ Raz delivers with The New Flesh.
The latest offering from the Far Rockaway Queens emcee is sixteen solid tracks, that starts off with the powerful jawn Mountains and ends with one of my favorite cuts, Nothing. The other fourteen tracks build on the story that Top $ is telling about his life and experiences. He's a storyteller. The New Flesh is a reflection of that.
Some of my other favorites on The New Flesh are Cold/Fresh, The Holy Ghost featuring Scienze, Jack and Coke Flow and the hilarious Don't Mind featuring Ciph Diggy and Alvietron. Oh and we can't forget about the killer track The Man that Top $ started the year off with. Or the monster of a track, The Plague, featuring YC The Cynic and produced by J57.
The New Flesh is a quality project, with production from Spills, J Monopoly, KO Beatz, Dr Khil and more. The New Flesh is executive produced by Coole High and Terrence "Thinker" Kelly.
With so many rappers on the scene who sound like cookie cutter replicas of others, Top $ Raz infuses a unique voice through The New Flesh.
I reached out to Top $ on the eve of this release. Check out our Q&A and a stream of The New Flesh after the jump. Chea!
Here's another Independent's Day Showcase alum, Vvs Verbal, with a new video "Golden Era." Part of the Bucktown USA camp, this track is off of Vvs Verbal's upcoming The Rebirth: Of the Slickest project. Video directed by Cynical Smith & General Steele. Enjoy.
I wonder how close to a brothel this video was filmed. Ha! Shouts to The Doppelgangaz and their black cloak lifestyle. These dudes rocked at the Independent's Day Showcase back in January. They have one hell of a live show. Check out the vid for "Tell Them." Enjoy. Chea!
Pretty fresh (and funny) video from MeLo-X for his track "Cooked Food." MeLo-X has been featured on the blog a few times, including his dope Adele remix to "Rolling in The Deep." Anyway, check out the video for "Cooked Food." Enjoy.
Malcolm MeLo Mustafa X is a man of many talents ranging from MC, DJ, Producer and Photographer to name a few. But now you can add Iron Chef to the growing list. In this mini movie inspired by the Caribbean unity of his upbringing in Flatbush Brooklyn, Mustafa and his multi-cultural band The Redd Strypes conjure up the right recipe to get the ladies caught up in his cooking pot. This Studio One inspired piece is Shot by Slick Jackson & Directed by Jesse Boykins III.
I caught these videos from Jonny Walker Of Super International. His team put together some fresh visuals for the 6:47 (directed by Jonny Walker) and LunchMoney (directed by Mandon Lovett) tracks. Cool tracks. Dope videos. Enjoy. Chea!
Stalley's latest project Lincoln Way Nights (Intelligent Trunk Music) is dope. Among my favorite cuts on the project is "Hercules." Recently Stalley performed at Crash Mansion as part of BET's Music Matters showcase, promoting up and coming artists. Check a clip from that performance above.
The production and rhymes on this project ... gotdamn. Check out the DJ Booth presented project from Brooklyn's Koncept (emcee) and Cali's Tranzformer (producer). Hit play on the EP and enjoy some fresh music. Chea!
On day 10, I think I found my favorite track so far in this 30 in 30 series. I might need to get my hands on this and see if I can't get one or two of my favorite emcees to jump on this. Shit! Anyway, get the back story on Ritchcraft's 30 in 30 here and peep day 10. Enjoy. Chea!
A solid track from three strong New York emcees. In Premonition's third installment of the Sum is Greater series, he brings along OTiS CLaPP and Top $ Raz. Premonition's project last year, The Build, was a solid offering. I'm currently working my way through OTiS CLaPP's latest project, Welcome II Nowhere. And today Top $ Raz drops The New Flesh. Three dope emcees who make fresh music separately kill on this Mile produced track. Hit play and enjoy. Chea!
Atlanta's own 26 year old Aaron Marcellus tried out for American Idol and has made it through the first few rounds. What we need The Mad Bloggers' supporters help with is getting him more airtime. As you will see, Aaron has a beautiful voice that should be heard by everyone within reach. If you recall, I did a post about Aaron Marcellus & The Will Band and had the pleasure of introducing our supporters to this awesome duo. Now you can see Aaron on TV!
I haven't watched American Idol in years, but it seems NOW with the episodes that I have watched, they've got some real talent this season. I personally, will be watching and supporting AI this year because a friend of mine is competing for one of the most coveted spots on prime time television. So we need EVERY supporter to show the love! If you want to know more about Aaron, "like" his fan page on Facebook. Retweet this post and bomb Twitter. Y'all know what Twitter can do!
Please support our brother in music and watch American Idol this year. Witness Aaron grow as a phenomenal artist! Thanks so much guys and enjoy the performance!
The third versus track from the new Word Is Bond Versus category. Where we partner a dope producer vs. a dope mc, to work on a exclusive track for us.
This time we bring you a Florida (Shinobi Stalin) Vs. New York Ciph Diggy...
We got beat from Shinobi Stalin and thought Ciph Diggy's flow over this dopeness, would be a killer combination.
It's been a while since I've posted something from the homie Big Rec. Check out his latest track produced by the Produce Section featuring Playboy Tre and Tom P. Enjoy.
Check out Miss Special's interview with TiRon for her weekly radio show, Special Sundays on KSFS (from the campus of San Francisco State University). They talk music, his name, what's up next and more. You can tune into Special Sundays from 2-4pm live at www.ksfs.sfsu.edu. In the meantime, enjoy the TiRon interview. Chea!
As if there isn't enough Ritchcraft production on the site right now, the homie e.d.g.e. jumps on a Ritchcraft beat to deliver his latest track. Check out "Metroid." Enjoy. Chea!
From the sound of this first track, I'm in eager anticipation of hearing the full instrument album by Apollo Brown. This is the type of production I rather hear MCs jump on instead of the commercially known yet sonically unfulfilling beats some are using.
from the forthcoming instrumental project "CLOUDS". In Stores March 1st!
This MC is out to prove she's got lyrics and knows how to use them over dope production by none other than 9th Wonder. Rapsody is no joke. This track here isn't either. But I'll let you think. Check it.
