Music Monday - Little Brother Feat Tiye Phoenix "Too Late For Us"

I was vibin' to this song over the last few days and had to post it up for Music Monday! Slightly older track from Little Brother but a Little Brother track is always dope, so it doesn't matter. Enjoy and happy Monday!

Happy Birthday Michael Jackson

So, how do you celebrate the late King of Pop's birthday? It's surely not watching the BET Awards again, I'll tell you that! What I'm Watching...R. Kelly - Skin

R. Kelly snuck in this video for the song Skin off his defunct album titled 12 Play (4th Quarter), which if you asked me was him bringing slow jams back and leaving alot of the club influenced tracks behind. Don't know why this was never released. Could've been dope.

Mr. I Should Tell Ya Momma On You is Back!

Here's an update from the former homeless beatboxer (no autotune or voicebox) named Red who became the talk of Youtube in some circles. This video explains what's he been up to since the last time we spoke about him on this site. Read here. Looks like he's working on an album. Glad to see he's doing alot better.

Check It ... Aight, New Drink

I caught this joint on twitter and after reaching out to the team behind it, I had to share. Aight, New Drink is DOPE! The project is a collaboration between Rob Viktum and Don Will (of Tanya Morgan). They bring five quality tracks and the joint features a few other emcees. Download this joint immediately, unless you hate GREAT music!

Rob Viktum's Commentary
I owe the initial idea of hollering at Don Will, to the ARE. I consider him a close friend, and he told me the next step in the game for me would be to holler at an mc and do a full project with them. Honestly my first thought was Don. I shot him a message, and he hit me back almost immediately and agreed to do the record. We both agreed about making it free, but making sure it was quality enough to make people still enjoy it as if they had purchased it. I hope you guys enjoy "Aight, New Drink" and I look forward to sharing more with you guys. Peace

Don Will's Commentary
I have what I like to call rap tourettes meaning that throughout the day several rap quotes swirl around my head be it contextual or not, something just triggers them. The name of this ep is based off of the first words you hear on Tupac's song Thug Passion. The way he says it is just so erratic. Sorta like 'okay yall stop drinkin that bullshit i got something else for you' and that embodies the spirit of how the project came together. I may be one of the most impulsive artists ever. Smack dab in the middle of getting Don Cusack in High Fidelity ready for mixing I decide to embark upon recording a new EP. Thats not sayin that Don Cusack was backburnered, just that i was bored out of my mind hearing the same records over and over and Rob reached out at the exact moment that I decided I was ready to work. Its a brisk song set that is just as impulsive in topic as it was in creation. I hope you enjoy hearing it as much as i enjoyed making it.

Aight, New Drink (Click to download) Tracklist:
1 - Worth the Wait (Feat Phil Nash, Von Pea & Lee Sissing)
2 - Barakaran (Feat elucid)
3 - Midwestern Lament (Feat Jermiside, Add-2, Theory Hazit & Brickbeats)
4 - Love Life (Feat Lee Sissing)
5 - Post Humous (Feat Jermiside)

Produced by Rob Viktum
Mixed by Donwill
Mastered by Brickbeats

Do You Want Fries w/That?

Gary Coleman is working with Toronto-based New York Fries to celebrate its 25th anniversary as part of the ad campaign, with the tag line "After 25 years some things are still fresh." But after 25 years, is Coleman still fresh? Because honestly looking at this ad, he looks a little rough. Hey, but at the end of the day a paycheck is a paycheck ... Gary Coleman, just doing what he has to do to get by.

Aaliyah ... 8 Years Later

Man, I remember exactly where I was when I got the news that Aaliyah died. I was laying on the couch in my mother’s house and my two way pager (yes, the Motorola two-way, which I guess was the original text messaging) went off. I was getting a news alert about Aaliyah. The message said that the young singer was involved in a plane crash. I was shocked. I immediately turned to MTV (back when MTV actually talked about music more regularly) and surely they were reporting her tragic death. I flipped over to BET and watched AJ and Free (yep, back when 106 & Park was decent) talk about Aaliyah, with different people calling in to talk about how they felt. It was sad. She has another young artist cut down during a rise. At the time I was publishing a small entertainment newsletter, so I started working on a piece, as my phone and pager went off for the next few hours with people calling to ask me if I had heard the news.

I still can’t believe it eight years later. We’ll never really know her full potential as an artist or what her overall contribution to music would have been. Over the last few weeks I’ve discussed with folks online what things would be like in music had Aaliyah not died in that plane crash. I don’t necessarily think that the landscape of female artists would have changed much, but perhaps Aaliyah would have just been a dominating force on the scene. What do you think?

TELL ‘EM WHY YOU MAD: GTFOH …

BLAME IT ON THE ALCOHOL: I’d like to file this under “should have never given you n*ggas cameras”. This whole sex tape and nude pictures from celebrities is not really a new thing (insert Paris Hilton, Kim Kardashian, Ray J, Pamela Anderson, Tommy Lee, etc, etc.) but it seems to be a bit more “leaks” in the last few months. Uh, do you remember the internet being on fire over those Cassie and Rihanna pics? (sidebar: I still laugh when I hear the Cassie and Riahnna tribute song)

Now we’ve got Jamie Foxx (reported that pics were for a movie role) on the scene with his pics (have not seen and won’t look for). Then you’ve got Eric Dane aka "McSteamy" from Grey’s with his sex vid (a threesome that truly lives up to his onscreen character). Things have gotten so out of control, publicity hungry Bad Boy artist Will from Day 26 issued a statement denying fake pictures of himself that surfaced online (that 99.9% of people didn’t even know existed). Will sit your ass down, trying to jump on the bandwagon with some “leaked” photos and then pissed no one paid attention.

My favorite line when pictures or a video is “leaked” is “I don’t know how it got out.” GTFOH, you know how it got out! Someone hacked your gmail? Someone intercepted your text? Come on with the bullshit. YOU DID IT! Someone close to your camp with your permission did it. Why? Truth be told, there is no such thing as bad publicity, especially if the pics and videos are flattering.

Oh and for the record, the picture that popped up of me was a personal picture and I don’t know how it got out. Please respect the privacy of me and my family at this very difficult time while we deal with this picture being leaked. I apologize to my fans if I let you down. Thank you, Q

THE DOG CATCHER: Vick, Vick, Vick, Vick … LET THE DUDE LIVE! To be honest with you, I really don’t care about football and it’s not like I’m a Michael Vick fan. I do however think the nonsense surrounding Vick with people being so pissed that he’s playing football again is ridiculous. You won’t support the Eagles now because he’s playing? Pissed at the NFL Commissioner? GTFOH!

You’re watching Martha Stewart in the morning, huh? Baking a cake from her recipe, right? Oh, she did time too! Oh, because it was a white-collar crime, no big deal? NO, A CRIME IS A CRIME! Real talk, what Michael Vick did was wrong but the man paid his debt to society. Done deal. Case closed. He’s not going to be chilling with DMX, Bow Wow or Snoop any time soon and he’s cleaned his hard drive of any dog fighting porn. I mean the dude did a coached interview on 60 Minutes, what else could we ask for? It’s over.

Michael Vick is a lucky dude to get a gig after getting out of jail. If only more minorities could get gigs after getting out of jail, the world would be a better place.

PACK UP PACKER: While I’m talking about football (again, not a fan) Brett Favre do us a favor and sit your un-retiring ass down! You come out of retirement more than a rapper, Muhammad Ali and Michael Jordan combined. Every time you un-retire it’s like a sequel to a movie that should have never been made (insert Final Destination here). Here’s a bit of advice, go coach pop warner football and take a few years off and then maybe come back as an NFL commentator or something. What needs to happen Brett is you need to tell your ego to GOOOOO LOOOONG because enough is enough.

KISS AND TELL: So this dude Terrence (106 & Playground) and Khloe Kardashian (why is she famous again?) kissed. Yeah, this should be filled under, WHO THE F’ CARES! Yeah, yeah, yeah … I’m writing about it but mostly because the aftermath of that kissing nonsense was on some middle school shit. “You know you kissed me first, right?” What?! Grow up with that dumb shit! There were probably twelve-year-old kids laughing at them for that. These cats must not understand the rules of making out, especially when you’re drunk. Shit happens, no need to be debriefing the situation afterward. Go ahead and GTFOH with all that extra nonsense.

TELL 'EM WHY YOU MAD: What the F' is a Wearable Towel?

If you own this or are thinking about buying it, 187 throat chop yourself IMMEDIATELY! I love how infomercials make it seem like you can't do basic things, like oh say ... um, putting on a towel! Seriously? A towel you wear is called an f'ing bathrobe! So, this wearable towel is obviously the eviler (yeah, I said eviler) twin of the snuggie. Damn, I'm missing out on good money inventions! I need to think of something that is completely useless that people need. Maybe I'll create the snuggie towel knife that gets rid of tough stains. Just a thought I suppose.

Tha Lady Blogga: Why so Ghetto Fab?

Is it just me or is television becoming more and more “Ghetto Fabulous”?

I remember when being on TV meant that you had a certain kind of talent or flair. As time moves on and the crap that we watch on TV increases, I am beginning to notice that “Ghetto Fabulous” is the way to go.

Let’s start with the First Lady of Ghetto… Wendy Williams. She went from radio to TV with the quickness. And it’s weird because on the radio, you wouldn’t really peg her to be so ghetto. But on TV, she gives herself away horribly. Her TV show, which happens to draw a lot of viewers, is just riddled with ghetto fabulous situations. Let’s start with the whole “How you doin’?” movement. It was funny on the radio because there was a specific time she would use it (those of you who are familiar with her radio show know exactly what I’m talking about). But on the show, she says it all the time, the guests say it, she has parents sending in videotapes of their children saying it… ABSOLUTE OVERKILL!

Let’s address the hair situation. It is one thing to be a wearer of weaves and wigs. But is it really necessary to pull and tug and adjust the wig on TV? Showing us that the part can slide from side to side is not very entertaining. I am glad all of the wigs look real Wendy but … Could you just wear them?

And is it really necessary for her to pick her teeth on TV? Oh and last but not least, drinking and toasting guests with wine, Nuvo, Skinny Girl Margaritas and other alcoholic beverages at 10 a.m. is a sure fire turn-off. How about serving some breakfast with orange juice? Just wondering.'

Let’s move on to those darling little Housewives of Atlanta. When this show first came on last season, I was excited to see women of color who were business savvy, wealthy, fashion conscience and successful. This season, the ghetto fab is just too much for me. The women have now become a stereotype of what people expect to see of women of color …

Lisa Wu-Hartwell is broke and her house is in foreclosure. She had to move. Kandi is going to marry a man with four baby mama’s and six kids (and she has a child of her own). Kim was down with the clique however she mysteriously has transformed into “trailer park trash” and she smokes Newport Lights. Nene (well the name speaks for itself) was always ghetto. And well Sheree is perceived as a gold-digging ex-wife of an ex NBA player who also suffered foreclosure and had to move. The women are now fighting in the street, bouncing checks and are not as prosperous and classy as I first viewed them to be.

People find “Ghetto Fab” entertaining and it is in high demand. It started with the likes of talk show hosts Jerry Springer and Maury Povich and has been on the incline ever since. Then we have stations like BET who promote Ghetto Fab daily. People love it. It is sad because this stuff is viewed worldwide. The way these people look on TV is the way that all people of color are viewed to behave. I don’t know about you but, I am far from the Wendy Williams type.

Slaughterhouse - Onslaught 2

I have to. Sue me. But I have to post another song off their album. I hope, no, I pray that you purchased the SLAUGHTERHOUSE album. Especially if you have been crying about what's the radio been playing, if you even listen to that shit box. Here are four of some of the illest MCs in the game as we speak. You let me know who can challenged them solely then you tell me who can as a group? I'm sure there are many that may and I may even agree on some of them. But this album is a must for any lyrical enthusiast. This track is definitely one of my favorites on the album. Check it out......

Satisfactory Tip Guaranteed!

I eat out at restaurants a lot. Personally, it's because I'm too lazy to cook myself and also because I'm out a lot. Makes sense, doesn't it? Well, recently I was on vacation a few weeks back and obviously there's not much I can do about eating out. Funny thing is that in areas most visited by those on vacation, prices are higher. And in some areas, much higher. But that was to be expected.

I've had debates and discussions for years back and forth about the restaurant industry and how the wait staff's income is much lower than most other positions of employment. Q and I spoke on this time and time again. I feel like you can't really complain about what you're getting paid when there's other jobs available that will pay you more. Even working at the mall, you may be able to get paid more. You chose that job. I didn't make you work there. I hear the argument is that tips can put them over that edge that makes applying for the position more tempting.

Before I get tons of hate mail, let me set the record straight. I tip. And I do it 99.9% of the time. As much as I might disagree with it, I tip. I don't get tips where I work. Argument is I get paid a lot more. My rebuttal is "Well, no one told you to work at a restaurant. You could make more working as a cashier somewhere." But the debates never ends.

So back to the story, I'm on vacation. Didn't notice till maybe the 3rd day that pretty much anywhere I went to eat, gratuity was included. My thoughts.......who ok'd this idea? What type of B.S. is that? And is it still considered "gratuity" if I have no choice but to add it?

According to Encarta, gratuity is defined as money given in appreciation: a small gift, usually of money, given to somebody such as a waiter as thanks for service given.

So how can you call it gratuity when you force me to give it to you? I can't co-sign on that. For that reason and for a much bigger reason I'm not advocating this mess is that what will guarantee that I get satisfactory service if you know beforehand that you are already getting your tip? You can be a dick to me. Forget to give me utensils or even a straw. Don't refill my drink. Give me what I didn't order and then take your sweet ass time getting me what I originally ordered. All while chit chatting in the back with your other co-working tip enforcers.

Yeah, that pretty much ticked me off. But.....service was adequate so what do I do? Not much. Paid the bill and went on my way to spend more of my money, at times unwillingly, throughout the week. I mean, after all, I was on vacation.

Slaughterhouse - Warriors
